3074.01.23 | Weyrling Communal Area | after lessons
T’vax was sitting in one of the chairs, having turned it so that he could see the entrance to the hallway beyond with ease. Actually, sitting was the wrong word. He was sprawled across it, his legs dangling over one arm and his back resting against the other. His right arm was resting along the top of the chair’s back, while the fingers of his left hand drummed on the leg under his torso. A motion in the doorway made him start to sit up, the drumming of his fingers pausing. No one entered the room though, so he leaned back against the arm and resumed his drumming.
T’vax, you must relax. We have already discussed this. The optimal reaction will be obtained only if you do not give away that you have something.
T’vax sighed, but he paused in his drumming and picked up a workbook for dragon anatomy, consisting of pictures of dragons with arrows pointing to different parts of their bodies. Settling it against his legs, he reached behind him for a charcoal stick and started going through the book, trying to focus on what he remembered from a month’s worth of lessons and not on the present he had hidden away for the purpose of gifting Davquil with it. He’d raced back to the Communal area after lessons, not even bothering to do more than throw on a clean tonic and the sash Dav had got him for his Turnday, and immediately taken up this post, so that he could be ready with his surprise as soon as Dav walked in.
Speaking of Dav… T’vax looked up through his bangs at the sound of footsteps coming down the hall. He wasn’t completely sure it was her, being as he was still not good enough with his so-called “gift” of hearing dragons to lower his “shields” without getting overwhelmed when around many excited dragons, and “excited dragons” described the weyrlings perfectly for the initial time when lessons ended, but he thought it might be. Or maybe that was just his anticipation speaking.
