3075.08.02 | Mid afternoon | WeyrBowl
T’ruk had been waiting for T’vax since he’d finished breakfast that morning. The Chrome rider had said that he would meet T’ruk in the dining hall; he’d never been late before, was always, at the absolute latest, exactly on time, but the hours had come and the hours had gone, and T’vax had never shown. Azeriuth had pointed out that something had probably come up, that perhaps a higher ranked rider had needed something delivered, or that perhaps he had had to go to practice early, but T’ruk wanted to make sure.
Stepping out into the WeyrBowl, T’ruk glanced around. He needed someone who… there! If anyone knew, Korvalia, or rather, her dragon Korinath, would.
“Hey, Korvalia!” he called, darting across the Bowl to her. “Do you know where T’vax is? He was supposed to meet me a few hours ago, and he hasn’t shown.”
Azeriuth had flown out to settle in the Bowl near T’rukHis. He didn’t like being separated from his rider for long, and T’ruk drew strength from his presence. He furled his wings and looked around, enjoying the feel of the sun on his dark hide.
Azeriuth, could you try and reach T’vaxMine? I cannot hear him or even feel him.
Certainly Slinesteth, Azeriuth replied. He was puzzled. T’vax had one of the strongest mental voices of any human Azeriuth had encountered, and it gave him a long reception reach as well. It should have been nearly impossible to stop Slinesteth from reaching him, but his own voice was slightly stronger than Slinesteth’s so if T’vax were just outside of range…
T’vax! Azeriuth shouted, reaching as far as he could, hunting for anything that felt like T’vax, only to come up blank.
T’rukMine, T’vax is outside of communication range.
T’ruk paled. Unlike on the typical pale skin of the north, it really showed, reducing his honey-brown skin to a sickly off-white. As far as he knew, they had never been able to find the end of T’vax’s range of communication, something about being able to hear all the dragons making him able to hear them from farther away, even though he hadn’t been bonded long.
“Azeriuth says that he can’t reach T’vax,” T’ruk said, eyes widening, not realizing that he’d spoken aloud.
