Some time after the incident
D’ziel entered his room, closing the door behind him and immediately going to his bed and laying down. Pounce had watched him from her perch on the table but the moment he was on the bed she bounced toward him and sat on his chest. D’ziel continued to stare at the ceiling, but his finger rose to rub the spot just behind her shoulders. The feline made herself cozy, knowing that for some reason D’ziel was going to stay here until he got ready for bed.
Every once in a while he would take his hands and put them over his face. He didn’t make a sound, except sharp breathing. Pounce could feel a slight disturbance under her as she sat on his chest, but she remained where she was. Eventually his hand came back and stroked under her chin and he continued to stare at the ceiling.
Time ticked on. Eventually he looked up, judging time. He got up, changed and returned to bed, Pounce replacing herself once he was covered up. It was early yet, and he continued to stare at the ceiling. He wasn’t tired at all. It was worse that way. Pounce napped, but he continued to be consumed by his thoughts. It got later. He was still up. Time ticked on. He started to drift in and out of sleep, his thoughts combining into his dreams, creating a seamless and unsettling picture. It was always hard to figure out how much was his own thoughts and how many were borrowed troubles. Eventually it became early enough that he sat up and banished his restless night in favor of morning.
One more night, one more day.
He got up and was dressed, wandering out for breakfast. He ate quickly and then on a whim, picked up a book from his room. He didn’t even really read it, just flipped through the pages. Something to be busy.
Every once in a while he thought it would be better to go somewhere else.
He couldn’t even think about running properly, then his over active thoughts got to him again. He didn’t hear anything about what was ‘proper’ in this situation. So he went another day, going through the motions.
