Midday
Hedara was in the Bowl again. It was cold, winter being properly in swing now. The days were incredibly short as well, so while the sun was in the sky, Hedara wanted to be out. Not everyone felt that way, so there were still people milling about, along with those who were out and about for work reasons. She observed, always judging the state of the icy Weyr. She didn’t look cold, but of course she had pants and long sleeves, along with boots in case she wanted to check on the canine teams. For now she looked around, ignoring the striking contrast that came from her near constant companion. The Green flitter orbited her, giving a quiet, pleased trill. As long as it wasn’t particularly disruptive, Hedara didn’t care, so she let it be. Of course she was secretly pleased at her little ball of joy, but she hardly showed it. Ivy knew though, when no one was around, she would get a pet or two.
As usual, Hedara was clouded in worries, some more easily solved then others. Supplies were always carefully organized, but winter made things all the more difficult. Still, fortunately she had learned quickly resource management in her time under Sanshe.
Hedara’s expression tightened slightly. Her last letter had led her to believe that Sanshe was doing well in the southern sun. The fires had worried her, but Waterfall Valley Weyr wasn’t close enough to be seriously impacted, apparently. She had even joked about missing the snow. Still, Hedara couldn’t help missing the other woman. Sanshe always seemed like a beacon of kind wisdom. Even more, Hedara wished for more people like that. What she had were at least a few people who, like her, saw injustice and were willing to go to great lengths to see things set right. She was still taking her time seeing that done, and done right. She couldn’t afford to do otherwise.
So she looked down at the dragons going in and out, ignoring the cold weather, and occasional cold eyes directed at her. Just another day.
