Living Caverns/15.07.07/late evening (Open!!)

[Shoki]

Kyuuki took the clothes from Ayasha, keeping them together in her arms. She did not move forward while the journeywoman spoke to Tamaruk about what he wanted to eat. Tamaruk seemed nervous still, but spoke up. Kyuuki smiled just a little when she saw Tamaruk’s reaction to Ayasha’s positive response. Looks like he hadn’t actually expected to get fish cakes. Kyuuki wondered where he was from that made them rare. She realized beyond his name she had no idea where he was from. The thought was casually tossed into the pile right on top of ‘Who is Gillian’ and pushed to the side for the time being. Still, questions would have to be asked eventually to find his parents or something.

“Well, while you wait, let me just get these on you.” Kyuuki moved forward to Tamaruk, Lantern watching her all the way. When she stood in front of him, Lantern got up and went to hover around Kyuuki. Kyuuki did not seem to pay attention, only getting on her knees so that she could reach his feet more easily. She got the socks out, putting the remaining clothes on her lap. Her mouth opened slightly as she began to sing a wordless song. Unlike her words up until this time, there was no trouble hearing her. The notes were supported, not airy, and the song was a happy little tune. All lifewing riders learned songs with their partners, and Kyuuki found she actually liked singing. So she did it sometimes for the patients. Her singing voice was much different from her speaking voice, not only for the less airy quality it had. She was singing in a lower octave at the moment, and she was very comfortable at this range.

As she sang she very carefully put the first sock on Tamaruk, light as a feather. Part of the reason she wanted to put them on was to make sure they did not rub too much against his frostbitten toes. Kyuuki continued singing as she got the next sock ready for his foot, and would just keep on until the socks and gloves were all on.

Tamaruk glanced up at Kyuuki’s flame-colored firelizard, then dropped his gaze once more. Understandably, he was still a little dazed by the actions of Kyuuki and Ayasha. He’d run away from Icy Caverns Hold and to Ice Stone Weyr because he’d hoped to find Harper Gillian, and maybe even others who wouldn’t beat him for glancing higher than their feet. However, the simple unfamiliarity of the gentleness he was being treated with made him uncomfortable and nervous; he had no idea how to prevent these strangers from discovering his evil blood and acting accordingly.

Tamaruk felt something settle on his shoulder, and he flinched involuntarily before the feel of claws informed him that it was only Guyaky. His involuntary flinch was repeated as Kyuuki slid the first sock on, but her singing was relaxing, and so while he watched her in silence lest she find some cause to beat him, he did not react as she slid the other sock and gloves on. He would have tried to put them on himself, but as his hands warmed they had started to itch terribly and they felt swollen, puffy, and stiff. Not that he wasn’t used to them feeling stiff and puffy, after all, he’d oft been made to work carrying and hauling things around outside in all but the nastiest of blizzards, but he also knew that delicate manipulation of the fingers (as required to put on gloves) would be beyond him until his hands warmed up more.

“Thank you, ma’am,” he said after Kyuuki slid the last glove into place. His voice was less cautious then it had been, though he still avoided looking above the ground for more than a brief glance. After all, he didn’t want to antagonize the lady, who was being so unexpectedly kind.

Kyuuki noticed his flinching, but had not stopped with putting the clothes on him. He was very skittish, something she wondered about. Still, she continued with her song and finished with the clothes, but remained kneeling for a moment, to finish her song and to fold the hand towel down to size. She finished the tune before the folding, but in no time handed Tamaruk the folded up towel. “For your nose. Just hold it there for now.” She had folded it up so it would not be in the way too badly, and the bulkier area would be easier to hold. She was pleased that he sounded a little better, for his mood anyway, and looked pleased. Finally, she was able to get up, and she looked him over quickly before nodding. She wanted to make sure she had not missed anything. Sure that she hadn’t, Kyuuki walked back a few steps to stretch her legs out and turned to more conversational topics.

“So, uh, what are the names of your companions?” Her eyes indicated what she was asking about, as she looked between the canine at his side and the aurora firelizard. She had not thought to ask their names until now, and had forgotten to introduce her flame colored friend as well. “Oh yes, and this is Lantern. I’m sorry about not introducing him earlier.” Lantern didn’t seem bothered by Kyuuki’s delayed introduction, and simply continued to hover around her. He didn’t mind, he’d rather be around Kyuuki then anyone else.

Obediently, Tamaruk held the folded towel over his nose. That the gloves and socks had been warmed had amazed Tamaruk, that the towel also had been warmed seemed a minor miracle. He watched as the lad- Kyuuki stood and looked him over, the muscles across his back tightening in a swiftly repressed flinch. However, the la- Kyuuki’s nod seemed to be mostly directed to herself, and Tamaruk allowed himself to relax, a glitter of interest appearing in his eyes, though his shoulders remained rounded in submission. His eyes widened at the lady’s question; he hadn’t expected her to say anything more to him, and the question was like none in his life, besides a few from Gillian. For a moment all he could do was reflect on the fact that Lantern's name certainly suited the flame-colored flitt. He’d never met an adult before who seemed even the least bit interested in Sinok or Guyaky, or in him, for that matter.

“This is Sinok,” Tamaruk said, petting Sinok on the head and drawing a look of sleepy adoration from the black sled canine, which was now wrapped around Tamaruk so that both his head and his back feet were next to the boy’s lap.

“…and this is Guyaky,” Tamaruk continued, a brief twitch of a smile appearing on his face as the flitt nudged his hand, obviously desirous of some of the attention that Sinok was receiving.

There were footsteps outside the door, and Ayasha opened it, carrying a tray balanced on her head that was covered with fish cakes and a few pastries.

“The cook said the kitchen was closing after this,” she said, grinning, as she purloined a chair to set the food on.

Kyuuki looked at Sinok, curled comfortably around Tamaruk. It kinda reminded her of a blanket, a big, good natured blanket. The canine seemed to him to be very attached to the boy, which was not too surprising considering what she knew about canines. She had never personally had one, but she had heard about some of them. She was more familiar with the canines that accompanied folks up here, rather then those from her home hold. Mostly having to do with the amount of friends she had in each place. Guyaky was as well seemed very attached to him as well. It was good to see that for all Tamaruk’s nervousness and such that he had two buddies that loved him very much.

“They are lovely.” She looked at them for a few moments until she heard foot steps, and turned to see Ayasha return. Kyuuki chuckled when Ayasha mentioned the cook, finding it amusing. She was getting the feeling that it was about time to head out though.

“Well, it’s good that you got the food. I think it is perhaps time to be, um, off. Either of you need something before, uh, I go?” Lantern Seemed excited to move on, mostly because it meant Vallesh. He liked the lifewing, though he liked Kyuuki more. “If not you can a hold of me later if need be.”
