When Tamaruk met her eyes, she smiled softly at him. "Because people are afraid of things they don't understand. When people aren't curious, curiousity scares them. When they're not intelligent, intelligence scares them. People used to be scared of the dragons. Some still are."
Nickta answered without thinking too long about it -- when she had arrived at Rainbow Mists, the same questions had been on her mind, and similar answers had been found, partly through asking others and partly through her own observations.
"People can be mean and cruel as often as they can be wonderful and awesome. That's why destiny isn't obvious -- because it's not destiny. Or, at least, I don't think it is. You choose what you do with your life. You choose what to be. Other people don't get to decide those things for you.
