This plot has finished. The history of Dark Mists Weyr is still widely circulated about the planet. Details change from town to town and rumors are confused with truth. The story is very popular.
Past
Dark Mists Weyr was once located in a foreboding, misty valley, for which it was named. At their head were three rogue dragons, Crimson Deikoeth and Kalinth, and the first Star-Light of Pern, Ralinith. The Weyr was just that at first, three rogues. In short order they stole about Pern, sweeping off nasty teenagers as Candidates, and stealing eggs from Clutches at the Weyrs.
Soon after the thefts, the eggs Hatched, all around the same time -- as if knowing just what to do. The first Abyss of Pern was born, Valorith, Impressing to Renika, a nasty Hold girl who was used to being followed about by hordes of fawning boys.
Dark Mists Weyr continued to grow in numbers and power. They forged an alliance with the DeathWings, horrid black birds, similar to the ravens. They were monstrous beasts, though cunning. Their screeches could paralyze even the bravest of men. It was with this promise between Dark Mists Weyr and the DeathWings, that a war seemed imminent. Their goal was to destroy Rainbow Mists Weyr, then Ice Stone Weyr, and ultimately rule Pern.
There are veterans of the Weyr War who still live on today. It was a grueling battle, in which the odds were incalculable, as no one had ever fought a DeathWing before, ever. Many lives were lost, but at last a major turning point in the battle occurred.
Akash, the current King of DeathWings was charging straight for Kayleth. She flew right back towards him. Seconds before they would meet Akash back winged to stop; his eyes open wide with realization. It was at this moment the DeathWings began to remember what their race used to be, long, long ago. They had been the healing, helpful LifeWings. Many could not make the change to being such a loving and helpful race, and thus died. Akash, shamed, fell towards the ground below, his dark feathers shedding to light ones. Kayleth had forgiven his race, and with a thud, Akash was dead.
Only three of the DeathWings in the war are known to have made the transition: the first LifeWing, Arimesh, followed by Orikoesh, and Ikinomesh. After the war, which would become to be known as the Weyr War, Arimesh revealed that there were other, unLinked LifeWings still flying about Pern. They did not have a Linked (the LifeWing equivalent of an Impressed), but simply lived. What became of them now is currently unknown.
As the former DeathWing King died, everyone was entranced watching. Everyone that is, except Deikoeth the Crimson Terror. He sped towards Kayleth, her death his only goal. A brave Green, Getreth, leapt in front of the Crimson’s claws. She sacrificed herself to save her Queen. A moment later everyone knew what Deiko had tried to do. Enraged, Zaurth engaged himself in intense combat with the evil Crimson. A scant few minutes later, Deiko was dead.
Ralinith charged onto the scene, surely insane, and tried to launched herself at her weyrmate’s killer. Regganith, Ralinith’s ClutchBrother, intercepted her. The battled between them raged on for several minutes, and then Ralinith shrieked between, defeated.
Seeing their leaders dead, a few members of the dark Weyr fled, the only ones that survived the Weyr War. They disappeared, and no one knew how to pursue them. Everyone hoped they would never return, and cheered that the great Weyr War had been won.
After WWI (POV: RMW)
Hours after the battle had ended, a group of brave Riders, around seven, was assembled to search through the place where Dark Mists Weyr once inhabited. Most of the evil Riders had died in the war, but it was suspected that some might still live.
Nearing the entrance they were attacked by a stealthy DarkBlue Rider. He was chased off, rather than defeated, at the heavy price of four lives: a Crimson dragon, a Black dragoness, and their Riders. It was a much grieved event, though the people of the Weyr barely had any tears left to cry.
It was hoped by the bruised and battered Weyr, that the ones who had retreated would just vanish. For the moment, they appear to have, save one man; Dameon. He was known to have tried to join up with them, but for reasons unknown, never truly did.
On the day of a festive Gather at Golden Flight Hold he snuck into the Weyr, stealing an egg and murdering its four Clutch Siblings, who were also eggs. After that he escaped on a Brown dragon known as Virgilth, though it is not known how he manipulated the dragon it is suspected that Dameon had the dragon's Rider captive.
The mother dragon betweened in heartbreaking pain, to the further dismay of the Weyr. The Holders were alerted by way of an announcement at the Gather. Rainbow Mists Weyr was let to stew, wondering how many others were out there, and what kind of threat they posed.
After WWI (POV: DMW)
Most of the scant few that remained of Dark Mists Weyr had fled long before the search party arrived. To their luck, a Queen, Abyss Valorith, had survived. They escaped to an unknown island off the coast of the Southern continent, where several other islands were as well. The island had been located by Renika, their default Weyrwoman. This was the new home of Dark Mists Weyr now.
Most of the time this island is overcast and it often rains. There is a near constant breeze that flows over the land, back out to the ocean, past the sides of the island, which drops off to cliffs.
The members of the Weyr survived, gaining strength little by little. They await the day Pern will face them again, and this time, they don’t plan on losing. Neither did they plan on the arrival of a wing of DeathWings, thirteen of the vicious birds and a strange man named Bador who spoke for them. Dark Mists Weyr's numbers were too small to risk open confrontation against the DeathWings despite the fact that they resented their presence and wanted to be free of the tyranny of the birds. It didn't take long for tension to reach a breaking point. Renika gathered the Weyr to make a speech but Bador came to confront her. He slipped a knife into the QueenRider and the Abyss took three DeathWings down with her dying screams.
The DeathWings took over as the absolute power in the Weyr and the Riders, fearing for their lives, kept their heads down and a few disappeared completely. Under the flag of K'nor and his dragon RR Flame Rinth the remaining Riders with a scrap of will in them rallied. Enough was enough, they would not be subdued by Bador and the dangerous DeathWings. They were able to take out a few with guerrilla tactics before an all out battle sprang up. The two sides tore each other to pieces, the DeathWings outnumbered but the dragons outmatched. Bador did not show his face in the conflict and the clash was too intense for any to seek him out. All combatants were in their death throes when he arrived, the largest DeathWing at his side. She was egg heavy and the Riders despaired: would the cold hand of fate see the planet they wished to rule taken over by their tyrants?
Suddenly, the last DeathWing fell to the ground, writhing. Barely conscious, K'nor, eyes fading, struggled to understand. Bador was injured and there was a flash of metal falling to the grass. The smallest smile appeared on a few of the dying Riders' faces. They understood. The world was free at last from threat: Dark Mists and DeathWings ended that day.
