Almost half of the eggs had hatched for far, but only two fire lizards had chosen their life paths. Marmee nudged her eggs encouragingly, willing them to hatch. They must live! She crooned obsessively and nosed the eggs about. Only a few were rocking and that was distressing her. The young ones born pleased her, but her duty as Queen was to care for all. The Rainbow rolled one of the smaller eggs up against her in hopes that the warmth from her side would encourage the flitt inside to break free and explore the world.

The small egg did not move. However, a cluster of eggs just to its left started to rock. The shells knocked against each other, creating little click-clack noises. Marmee chirped but did not touch the eggs. They were so close! She watched them intently, waiting for new life to finally find its way into the world.

A beautiful Purple emerged first. A fine and regal youngster, though he'd be a bit of a rascal in his early days. He raced about the other eggs, looking on excitedly. His siblings, his brothers and sisters, they too were about to experience this amazing world. It was so large he could barely comprehend it. But there it was all the same. He cheeped in wonder - and let out an undignified squawk when his sister stepped on his tail. He turned to glare at her. The Grey backed away quickly, wary of her much larger brother. She skittered away at once, throwing a cautious glance behind her. As soon as she was out of range she started to look for food.

The largest egg of the pile of three was cracked all around the sides with thin lines and occasional punctures in the shell. The flitt could feel its coming freedom, but it wasn't out of the egg yet. Marmee nudged it over just as a leg shot out the side. It was a brilliant shade of red that caught the light from all around the kitchens. Another limb soon broke free and finally, with a triumphant but rather quiet crack the magnificent Crimson was free.

Cassondra blinked as the little green clung to the fabric of her top, over her shoulder. She looked quickly for the bowls of meat. -Oh my!- was her first thought. She had never really had this sort of thing happen before. She took a deep breath. She knew what she needed to do. She remained calm after her first initial surprise at the little thing climbing up her and now clinging to her shoulder. She was careful not to dislodge and cause it to fall. She popped a piece of meet into the open maw of the clinging flitter. Then another and another. Until the little energetic and clinging flitter became tired, her grip loosening. Cassondra carefully shifted the green to her forearm and stroked the soft hide, smiling. She just needed to name it. And she was pretty sure she had a name for this one. She would call her... "Ohmai..." She smiled at the sleeping Green then turned her attention back to the hatching that was happening there around her. A Purple and a Crimson had hatched. And a gray! What lovely little creatures. She stood off to the side, still watching with her now calm and sedated Green.

K'rec watched, blinking slightly, watching each egg as it shook and each dragonet as it emerged from its egg. Mine... Let us leave. The flittering bugs are annoying... Torrenth complained to His quite regularly. It was actually starting to wear at K'rec's resolve to stay and see what all would happen. -Alright, Torrenth... Just a few more minutes, okay?- K'rec sighed quietly. He still wanted to watch the hatching. He watched the little Grey and felt rather bad for her at that moment. He wanted her to come his way. But he could hear Torrenth's mental snort... He smiled a little bit, remaining in place and keeping his eyes on the little Grey female.

Chrinia wore a rather large smile on her face. She loved hatching and things like that. They were amazing. She never missed one at her home Weyr. And she hadn't missed one here yet! She didn't quite think of Rainbow Mists Weyr as home yet. She felt... Almost lonely at times. But she supposed taht that was her own doing as she was a bit of a loner...

DarkBlue Tillia sat on Chrinia's shoulder, singing her little heart out for the youngsters who were experiencing their first taste of the world, encouraging them and urging them onward.

It was the squawk of the purple that drew Z'ek's attention as he entered the kitchens. He'd heard a room that the eggs were hatching, but that wasn't why he was here. No, he'd come for a snack. Still, the excitement of a flitter hatching was hard to resist and he found himself gathering a bit of meat as a sort of offering.

It wasn't as if he were trying to convince them to Impress one.. Just if one happened over he didn't want to let it down. He crouched down to get a better look at the many hatchlings that had yet to bond and the eggs that hadn't hatched.

That's when the small one resting against the rainbows side drew his attention and he frowned. Was it okay? Would it hatch? He'd seen the occasional white in both dragons and firelizards that needed help, though it was rare and significantly more so in the latter. It did seem to be a large clutch though.. Which would make it more likely. It could also be a dud, but then why would she be putting the effort into it she was?

Maybe she doesn't know?] Laeraneth suggested.

Doubtful. Z'ek responded, his thoughts too caught up to give a full response. He began to wonder if the mother would allow him to help it hatch, if it came to that....

[Jay Kitten]

A small croon came from a dark-and-light mixed flitter atop the rafters of the kitchens, a tiny little Moonlight named Aiyr. She was a bit of a peeper, always loving to watch the going-ons at the Weyr, and this was no exception. She hadn't missed a single flitter Hatching since she was born, she loved watching new friends enter the world.

Dropping from the wood above, she swooped down and clattered noisly onto a table, knocking over a few cups in the process before she slid off the end and onto the floor, ending up upsidedown against a wall, her rump in the air. She righted herself and twisted her neck to tilt her head, her whirling eyes a deep blue-green as she searched the area before hopping about until she found a stool, carefully climbing onto it and squaking noisily as she went back to watching what was going on.

Asheverika watched the purple flitter with a smile, giggling lightly as he squawked. It was not very nice but he was pretty funny. She loved watching the young flitters in generally. They were bright and curious, which was good in her opinion. Requiem flitted about, feeling the excitement from the younger flirelizards. As the crimson broke free Ashe let out a soft “oooo” in respect. How lovely. Riith peered over her rider’s shoulder to observe why the dark haired girl was interested. The gray dragon settled back, not nearly as excited as Ashe was. She was having enough fun watching the girl and her flitter enjoy themselves. Requiem suddenly landed on Ashe, and craned her neck up to the rafters. “Hmm.” The girl glanced at the flitter then followed her gaze. A moonlight was about, crooning near the ceiling. She followed the firelizard as she bounced down and caused a bit of a ruckus. Ashe chuckled, then moved a little to the side from where she was standing. Hopefully the flitter could see better now.

A hatching, do you smell it? I do, eggs! Onwath said excitedly, waking Hers with a nudge. Kaide blinked and stretched, eggs? Oh! There were eggs! She ran out of the weyr, dashing into the Kitchens and sitting happily in front of the rocking orbs. She hadn't missed the whole thing! Lace and Lily where perched on her shoulder watching in wonder at the magic of the hatching.

The egg next to Marmee, the smallest of all the eggs Marmee had laid, was rocking. The firelizard inside twisted back and forth trying everything it could to release itself from its hard prison. Finally after falling on its side the egg had no choice but to give in and release its captive on the hearth. Chirping triumphantly the little white spread its wings and gave its rear a little shake in happiness. He'd done it! He'd broken free on the terrible egg! Marmee crooned happily for the youngster, he hadn't been a dud!

In his excitement the white had missed the hatching of the large egg directly behind him. From within its depth came a large formidable creature. His hide was mainly black but thin streak of yellow around his feet and on his wing membranes proved him to be a moonlight. With a feral trill the moonlight pounced on the white, then warbled happily and rubbed his head on the white's. He was only kidding!

Squeaking in terror despite knowing that it was a joke the white ran blindly towards one of the peach fleshy things in front of him. In his hurry he knocked over a smaller egg and out popped a very disoriented Cloud. Dazed, she shook her head and gazed curiously at the people in front of her. They were quite interesting, yes interesting….She yawned and slumped against the dragon next to her, the crimson.

With a hiss the crimson back out of the lean sending the cloud sprawling. With a sharp turn he thwapped the other flit with his tail and bounded off towards the people. He was the best, he'd get food before any of the other losers on the hearth. Approaching Asheverika the crimson opened his mouth and chirped demandingly, she would feed him wouldn't she?

The purple spied his brother and twisted his head. The pink things had food! Oh they did they did! Chattering to himself the firelizard practically threw himself at Z'ek. Feed me feed me? He seemed to ask smiling in a way only a firelizard could.

The pink stared after her crimson brother, he was so handsome, she wanted him! His voice was like a perfect melody! Trilling she danced toward him, bumping into Asheverika in the process. Blinking the pink stared up at the girl. If he was choosing her, she would too![/size][/ul]

The girl leaned her head in with the trembling of the small egg. A lovely little white hatched, making her smile. She hardly had time to thing before watching another egg hatch, revealing the moonlight, who pounced on his kin. Requiem chirped along with Asheverika’s chuckle at the pair. This was a lively hatching certainly. The lazy cloud broke free and decided the best place to nap would be next to the Crimson. He did not seem to be a fan of that. He gave the cloud a ‘bap’ with his tail and then turned to her. This startled The rider for a moment, upsetting Requiem from her perch with her looking about. She spotted a tray of meat rather quickly though, and got held out food for the Crimson. A smile spread across her face as he ate. Adorable little guy. Requiem changed her position to the girl’s head and watched the young firelizard eat. Ashe was so distracted with the crimson, she did not notice the dancing pink flitter until she ran into her knee. The dark haired girl checked if she was okay, then smiled down at the little pink firelizard. It seemed she wanted to stay with her brother. She held out some meat for the pink as well, realizing rather quickly she was going to have to juggle food between them. Ashe just started humming absently, Requiem chirping along.

~Mine, you are going to have to think up names for them.~ The gray dragon reminded her gently, since Ashe was distracted.
“Oh. Well let’s see then…” She held out another strip of meat for the pink, while biting her lip. “How about Rhapsody for you my lovely dear?” It struck her as a good name and the pink did not seem to mind it. She seemed happy as long as her lovely sounding brother was about. Now that she thought about it he would be best with a musical name too. He needed a nice guy name though. “And how about Bolero for you?” Requiem gave out a chirp. She liked them! Ashe chuckled, returning her full attention to the lovely little flitts.

Cassondra cradled Ohmai on her forearm tenderly and watched the rest of the hatching with interest, rather pleased with the little Green who already had won a spot in the heart of the girl who had, so far, proven herself to be rather aloof and solitary.

K'rec grinned when the last little egg hatched into a white. He looks like a miniature of you, Torrenth! K'rec told his dragon. Torrenth snorted and K'rec could hear it across their mental connection. K'rec couldn't help but laugh. K'rec couldn't help but watch the white. He felt an affinity towards the little flitter.

Chrinia chuckled a little bit. That little Crimson had a bit of a temper and a lot of pride on him. He would likely be a bit of a handful. And that moonlight was playful. He would make someone a very good companion, most definitely. Above her head, Trillia swooped by, trilling and singing. Chrinia wondered if her voice would go hoarse, although she knew that was probably not the case.

Z'ek was happy to see that interference wouldn't be necessary as the egg wobbled and rocked until it finally released the small while it had held captive. The white seemed healthy to Z'ek, but he was not healer to be sure. He couldn't help but smile at the antics of the moonlight that hatched behind it and the white's response though he felt some pity for it. Especially when it ran into another egg in its blind flight to get away.

His eyes traveled to check the other eggs. He really had no desire to miss anything.. Especially since Laeraneth refused to come and see this himself.. And indeed he was getting much too big to do so anyways. He was sending the images back to the dragon anyways.

It was as the purple started in his direction that Z'ek felt a weight land on his shoulder. Gariat had decided to join him and just in time as it seemed he was gaining an addition to his family. The purple's 'smile' all but melted his heart and the food was quickly relinquished.. and someone, maybe a drudge, handed him more a bowl with more in it.

Between feeding the little one, though, Z'ek could not help but let his attention stray to check on the white and see if it had found a bond yet... Hopefully it would not injure itself it its frightened flight.

You will need to name it... Or Maybe you should let me do that.

Teran. Z'ek responded, ignoring the protests of the midnight.

Mumbling to herself the wood trotted off towards the people. She was hungry! And her brother was so rude! Stopping in front of the already occupied Z'ek and trilled sharply. Feed me! I am worth the trouble! She bit at the man's legs impatiently.

The jungle looked to his sibling on the hearth. The green looked like him! He hurried over and nudged her, play with me? The green turned to face the jungle and then looked away, nose in the air. Boys, boys were no fun at all. She could care less about him. Sniffing primly she looked down at her rumbling stomach. Food was in order. Daintily the green sauntered off towards Asheverika, sitting next to the pink and staring expectantly at her chosen pink thing.

Another egg on the hearth twisted madly, an odd motion for an egg. With a shredding sound the firelizard inside was released. The white trilled madly and ran in tight circles. Fast fast fast, she was fast! Everything was going so fast. She's already been out of the shell two whole seconds! The white ran towards her white brother, barreling into him and sending them both tumbling off the hearth.

The male creeled in alarm, flapping his wings hurriedly in an attempt to get up but finding Z'ek's leg instead. He clung fast to it, terrified of his white sister who had flown back onto the table and was running happily around her mother. Marmee tried to keep an eye on the white but soon became dizzy and gave up, nudging another egg to try and speed its hatching.

The midnight on the sands stretched and looked around. His stomach was empty and only one of the pink things could fill it. And only one was right for him. But which? He thought carefully before darting towards Kaidi. She seemed like a good match for him.

Kaide clapped happily at all of the Impressions and grinned broadly as a Midnight found its way to her. "Food right?" she said aloud, trying to recall Lace's hatching. "Yes food for the tummy!" She laughed, scooping up the midnight and feeding him scraps. "Your name will be…Squishy!" The greenrider announced, poking the midnight's stomach.

Cassondra blinked. Oh my! Another one. She quickly reached over to a bowl that was within reach and started to shovel pieces of meat into the little brown's maw. She did her best to balance the green and now the green as well. She grinned. How many would she attach today? She rather liked this little Brown and her little Green. SHe kept feeding him until he was sated then gently picked him up, cradling him. "Now... what should we call you, little one...?" she asked the now satiated and tired flitter. "Umble," she said, tasting it on her lips... The Brown looked up at her. Seemd he liked it... And... SHe rather did too.

In the background, Chrinia leaned against the wall, watching the Hatching. She wanted to go show the little Wood flitter sympathy... but she rather not get in the way of things or make the little Rainbow angry with her.

K'rec turned to leave, finally.... Although, he didn't really want to leave yet... So each step was slow. He turned to look over his shoulder, still trying to watch what was going on in the Hatching.

Z'ek glanced to the wood as its hight pitched chirps drew his attention. Of course, he was rewarded by his fingers getting snipped as the purple accidentally bit his fingers along with the piece of meat he'd offered it right before he looked away. His eyes shifted back as his hand instinctively jerked away from what had caused it pain. Now real damage, he could see and he had no time for a true inspection as there was that voice again.. Only this time it was closer and directed up at him.

Another bowl of meat was handed to him, and he started to offer a piece to her before he recalled the knowledge he had off woods. "That won't do," he said softly, and sent a drudge after a bowl of greens instead, which was brought promptly too him...

Just in time for another firelizard to attach itself to him. Seemed the little white had been all the more frightened in the few moments he'd been forced to look away from him.

"It's okay, little guy," He told him as he pried him of his leg and settled him onto his shoulder opposite Gariat. It was a challenge to get his two newest additions fed, and he was thankful that the purple seemed content. Gariat, of course, helped by scampering down to the bowl of meat and carrying it back up to the white so Z'ek could feed the greens to the wood, who had already started making more demanding noises while she waited for the greens to be brought to them.

Klenta and Ashai. He told Laeraneth before the midnight could even suggest he should get to name them.

Firelizards. Well, Mira had never been to a hatching. At the very least she could see make a tapestry of it.. If she actually saw some break shell. She smiled to herself as she made her way to the kitchens.

It seemed the hatching was already in full swing, but that didn't deter her from committing the details to memory even as she grabbed a bowl of meat just in case. The mother would have to make it to the tapestry along with at least one of the eggs breaking...

I'm not hungry.

You promised your brother and Ilyen you would eat. Do so. It has been almost a day since your last meal. I will get them to force you.

V'ren grumbled to himself as he entered the kitchens. At first he went straight for the food that he was supposed to be getting, but then it was hard not to be distracted by a large firelizard hatching.

You have Manon Lith told him insistantly.

They are still interesting to watch. I'll eat after. He said, settling the matter. It wasn't as if she could come into the kitchens and force him away from the clutch...

[Shoki]

Bolero and Rhapsody were starting to get full. It was good for Asheverika since she could somewhat slow her rationing of the meat. When she was giving Rhapsody another bit of meat she noticed the green staring at her, mouth open in expectation. Requiem trilled in amusement, while the dark haired girl gave the new flitter a bit of meat.

~She has been with you longer then me, I don’t have right to complain about that.[/color]~
“You’ll like them. I know you will.” She rubbed the top of Bolero’s head after giving him a piece of meat to eat. He was going to be most different then her lovely grays. Probably. She gave another piece of meat to the green and said softly, “How are you doing, Sonata?” The green paused for a moment to look up at Ashe, and then returned eating. “You know Requiem you are going to help me babysit them.” Requiem gave a musical chirp at that. She was glad to make her grays happy, and now these little guys could keep things interesting.

Cassondra smiled, watching the antics of the hatchlings. She felt for those who were being chased, pounced on, or felt the need to hide... But she still found them to be energetic and sweet creatures. And she was lucky enough to attach to of them. Ohmai and Umble. She held them both now. They were a bit of a handful together, though Ohmai was decidedly not that big and both were hatchlings.

Chrinia blinked and winced as the Cloud hit the ground. But she seemed to be alright... And was headed right for her. Chrinia quickly motioned for the nearest bowl and reached in, grabbing meat to plop into the little Cloud's mouth.

It wasn't long after Chrinia started to feed the Cloud that she felt her pocket moving. She gave the Cloud another piece of meat then took a peak into her pocket. Oh... Well wasn't this a surprise. A little Jungle! Chrinia reached for meat with both hands now, offering one piece to the Cloud and the other to the little Jungle, trying to lure him out of her pocket with each piece she gave him.

Tillia sat on her shoulder, trilling with excitement.

What will you name them, Mine? Caetelaneth asked her Rider, her tone curious. Caet loved flitters. Hers had had one since the dragoness was but a young hatchling herself.

I'm not sure, Caet... Chrinia thought as she fed the two, careful to give them the meat without being bitten. She had the Jungle now on her shoulder. She fed them until they were satiated and then gently picked up the Cloud flitter, cradling them both. She smiled. "What do you think, Caet, Tillia, of the names Daea (Day-uh) for the little Cloud and Piik (Peek) for the little Jungle?" She grinned at the approval she got from Caet and the responsive excitement from Tillia, her DarkBlue, who flew a circle over her head.

K'rec stopped in his tracks from where he was walking backwards, watching the hatching again. He could hear Torrenth giving his hrrmph of disapproval, but he smiled anyways and shook his head. He knew that Torrenth was annoyed by flitters, but he found them interesting, personally. And a flitter hatching was something that would naturally attract the frail young man's attention.
