The hard part about any conflict this large is that there are far more than just two sides, so the following is an attempt to summarize possible reasons why a character might feel one way or another. Note that a character might personally believe in more than one of these ideas, even if they are from different camps.

All those in favor of the fact that Silverlights are Queens and that it is nobody’s business who they Impress:
- Silverlights have the ability to give orders that other dragons will obey, just like Queens.
- Silverlights clutch large numbers of eggs, and can clutch King and even Queen colors.
- Dragon choice is not considered an issue in other cross-Impressions, so why should it be considered such here.
All those in favor of the fact that Silverlights should be considered overgrown fighters:
- Men cannot give birth to children, so they cannot understand a fundamental part of a Queen dragoness’s life. Cross-Impressions involving fighting dragons are different because the fighters don’t clutch.
- It isn’t good for the Weyr structure to have two men at the very top, instead of a man and a woman. It could result in changes or alterations to the power structure, or duties being overlapped that should be kept separate.
- The Weyrs are among the few places on Pern where a woman can hold great power, and giving that power to men, who already hold the vast majority of the power elsewhere, would mean that a woman has nowhere where she can hold power in her own name.
- It is unnatural for a boy to bond to a Queen dragon. Any boy to whom this happens is somehow not well in the head, and the dragoness must be intending to help him, therefore the bonding is fundamentally unstable and should not be allowed.
