DMW – Dark Mists Weyr was a group of people that rebelled against Rainbow Mists Weyr, started by three former riders. The first Starlight, Kalinth was the Queen and aided by Crimson Deikoeth, who came to be known as the Crimson Terror. They gathered riders and others that were not Impressed that shared their views of taking down Rainbow Mists and their allies by force. They stole eggs from other Weyr to bolster their ranks early on. It was in this way that the first Abyss of Pern came into the world, Valorith impressed to Renika, one of the Candidates of the dark Weyr. The Weyrlings were pushed hard to quickly become warriors to fight and kill their enemies. The moment that the Weyr was ready and their army had been amassed they struck. Having gathered the Deathwings to aid, Dark Mists brought the horror of battle to Rainbow Mists Weyr. However it would not be their victory. Both the dark Weyr’s leaders would be slain, and the remaining members would retreat, to a place where the new leader, Renika declared it would be safe to regroup and rebuild.
They would bide there time for turns without disruption, until, one fateful day, a wing of Deathwings arrived, and a strange man with them. He called himself Bador, and he would lead to the Weyr’s undoing. He took power over the Weyr, and when Renika attempted to speak against him, he killed her in cold blood. The riders of the Weyr would not let that stand for long. Though the Deathwings were powerful they would have their day. When they were ready, they struck at the Deathwings. The battle was violent as the dragons had their numbers, but the Deathwings were powerful. Both sides would see their numbers absolutely decimated, Deathwings and riders almost entirely gone. At the last moment, Bador appeared, with an egg heavy Deathwing. It looked as though the Deathwings would have their victory. Suddenly the Deathwing cried out and Bador was hurt by her as she lashed out, a knife falling from his hands. Both Deathwings and Dark Mists Weyr fell, their undoing caused by their once powerful alliance.
‘Wings – One of the new things discovered in the far north were large black birds with songs that could harm both human and dragon. With their ability to sing death upon those they wished to, they were called Deathwings by the dragons who fought them. It has been said that they were like a Hive, all the minds together ruled by one who directed them. They were a force to be reckoned with, fighting against the dragons of Ice Stone Weyr. However, they would be even more deadly to the southern lands. Approached by the leaders of Dark Mists Weyr, the Deathwings were offered and opportunity to strike at the very riders who had joined together with their enemies. Akash, successor of Tash and leader of the Deathwings would lead the Hive in combat together with the Dark Mists Weyr riders.
The battle between Rainbow Mists Weyr and the combined forces of the Deathwings and Dark Mists Weyr was a bloody one. Akash himself fought Kayleth, the Gold bonded to the Sr. Weyrwoman, in a battle as mental as it was physical. Eventually the Gold would win the mental battle which caused Akash to see something he had never seen before. He saw what his kind used to be. This realization spread through the Hive, but it was all too much for most of them. They gave up their dark feathers for light ones, but most died in the process. Those that did not die became known as Lifewings. Rather than harmful songs, they healed with soothing music. However, such a radical change would leave many humans and dragons wary of these creatures.
As turns went by, the Lifewings bonding to humans became much more ordinary. Weyrs would let Lifewings and their riders have a home, but as a whole the Aerie would be separate from the Weyr. Though the Aeries do not have the same political sway over people that Weyrs do, among themselves the AerieMistresses and AerieLeaders make sure that the people of Pern are kept healthy and that the Lifewings and their riders are respected figures across Pern.
WFVW – Waterfall Valley Weyr was a Weyr established in 2811 in the south before the number of color mutations increased. Well known for their relaxed nature, they were struck with a strong stroke of bad luck. Dragons of ill intent and those thought to bring ill omens with their very presence. Weyrlings vanished during the same time, and it seemed that everything that could go wrong did go wrong. That wasn’t true. Everything would get worse. Without much warning, a volcano erupted, meaning that Waterfall Valley Weyr had to evacuate. Eggs were lost on the sands, though the number of casualties was mercifully low. However, they were now a Weyr without a home, and they needed one quickly. A place was found, and it came to be known a Rainbow Mists Weyr.
That was not the end of the place called Waterfall Valley Weyr. When everything settled down, efforts were made to fix up the Weyr. It would take much effort but they would succeed in making the place habitable once again. Instead of the people returning from Rainbow Mists Weyr in full force, the two became separate Weyrs with similar ideals and strong bonds. Even now Waterfall Valley Weyr has remained Rainbow Mists’ supporter, ensuring that the extremely young Weyr is a powerful one indeed.
ISW - Stumbled upon by the White Rider Nai after a heated argument, Ice Stone Weyr was discovered by this rider of Waterfall Valley Weyr. Ice Stone Weyr was an entire Weyr made up solely of dragons, not a human being to be found. They were led by the Iceleaders, the first among equals, and as humans came they welcomed others into their home. They had remained secluded in the north, standing against the Deathwings for turns upon turns, having clutches that would Impress themselves by looking at the reflective ice. Nai became the first Weyrwoman, but would be joined by those who would impressed female Ice dragons in time.
Ice Stone Weyr would remain oddballs on Pern. They were a proper Weyr, having an area they protected and dragons with riders that called the place home. However, some of the other Weyrs would see them as odd, with their high rate of cross Impression and high ranked dragons that chose the opposite gender. Self-Impressed dragons would continue to exist, even as they became a less common occurrence at hatchings. However, Ice Stone Weyr would remain to have strong ties with Rainbow Mists Weyr and Waterfall Valley Weyr, as the turns continued. Still for a Weyr, they have remained somewhat isolated and lack political power compared to the other Weyrs.
