“Star, Boot, Shadow, Wamarna, find!”
T’kar focused hard on an image of his sister’s face. Granted, he didn’t know for sure that she was lost, only that she hadn’t been in the dining hall where she would normally have been. He also didn’t know for sure that the moons had risen in the east last night, and what were the odds of that being incorrect? Given the way Lindalyn had been found, and the fact that the people he suspected had been directly responsible for that had then managed to capture a Weyrling, he much preferred knowing where his sister was at all times.
Three firelizards obediently swooped off. Wamarna instead swooped down and clung to T’kar’s shoulder, having apparently decided that if she left her newly acquired perch he would come to some harm.
“Wamarna. Find.” T’kar’s voice was completely calm, regardless of the slight tightening around his eyes.
Wamarna turned and chittered at him. She seemed to be aiming for a scolding tone, and was puzzled when T’kar’s only reaction was to roll his eyes and start disengaging her claws from the padded shoulder of his shirt.
“Find,” he repeated, carefully enunciating the word.
Wamarna cocked her head first one way, then the other, and finally flew off. It didn’t take her long to find Alyga, though she got there after the other three. She promptly started to return to T’kar, but Star stopped her by pushing her into Alyga’s arms. There was some quick chittering and hissing, mostly on Star’s part, and then Boot departed to bring T’kar.
T’kar grabbed several meat pies, numerous pieces of fruit, and waved for Boot to lead him, following him up the corridor at a fast jog.
“Alyga, there you are,” he called, relief flashing across his face. He slowed down as he reached her. “I brought you some food.”
