"SHARDIT ALL! Get out of the way you useless man!"
The bellow rang from the kitchen, and had more than a few people looking over there in startlement. The owner of the voice didn't give a whit what others thought and continued to viciously berate the drudge, who wasn't doing what she wanted fast enough to suit her. So she shoved him out of the way and dumped the pile of dishes she held into the water, snarling as some of the soap got on her shirt. "Blasted men and their uselessness!" she growled, flicking a stray strand of her fire red mane out of her face and beginning to scrub the dirty dishes. Why Moraiya seemed to delight in giving her the dirtiest sharding jobs she had yet to figure out, but she knew better than to argue. If she didn't do her chores, she wouldn't be on the Sands when her Queen hatched, and then the poor dear would have to come and FIND her. And they couldn't have that.
Continuing to mutter under her breath, the girl scrubbed even harder, than cursed viciously as she felt a stinging in her palm and the water began to turn an ugly reddish hue. Pulling it out, she stared at the blood welling up for a moment, then turned on the drudge again. "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!" she snarled at the poor man, who was close to tears from her continued deragatoryness. Wheeling, she grabbed a nearby towel, ignoring the cook's startled exclamation, and stalked from the room towards the Healer's Quarters. Oh this had better not scar, she thought viciously. Or else that drudge would REALLY pay!
As she stalked through the corridors she felt it getting hotter and stopped briefly, frowning as she tried to figure out why. Shrugging, she continued on, then stopped in surprise as she came on a side passage that emanated a LOT of heat. If she didn't know any better, the Harper thought, turning to follow it and starting to slow as she saw light. She'd been BORN at Rainbow Mists, but she didn't recall ever coming on this passage as a creche' brat...
Eventually she came to where it opened out and just stared, realizing where she was. Somehow, she'd come on a side passage that led to the Hatching Grounds without realizing it, and Orikaeth's glorious clutch was laid out before her. She briefly looked over all the eggs, then her gaze fell on the gleaming Queen egg and stuck. It truly was a magnificent sight, she thought, watching the heat waves play over the shining surface. Her brain didn't register whether or not the mother was THERE or not, but she wasn't ON the Sands, and hadn't intentionally come here, so Moraiya couldn't punish her, right? Shaking her head, she refocused on the Queen egg. There lay the incarnation of her hopes and dreams, and she felt herself beginning to FINALLY feel the nervousness she'd been fighting down since her return to the Weyr.
She was nineteen, SO close to aging out. What if she failed to Impress before that unhappy event occurred? Queen eggs were a rare beauty, after all, and no one could guarantee that this golden egg even held HER Queen. And there was no way to know if the next clutch from a Queen(likely Archith, she thought unhappily) would CONTAIN a Queen...
Seating herself, ignoring the heat, she put her chin in her hands and sighed, letting her mind wander, but still focused on the Queen egg and what it might or might not hold in store for her....
