Early Evening
Why? Ever the curious one Hailreth was following B’ow, observing the areas around him. The Neon Purple was still pretty small, though B’ow knew he was pretty spot on in size for his age. The dragon had insisted on seeing where his rider had been spending his time with ‘punishment’. Of course, he had also had a multitude of questions.
“Whers are sensitive to daylight. So nighttime is when they work and therefore when I can best help out.”
And you have to continue helping? B’ow stopped and considered, thinking carefully. Hailreth had gathered that when his rider did that he was considering his words. B’ow didn’t like answering in a dismissive way. If he talked, it was because he was sure that his answer would be a good one, at least by his estimation. The Purple appreciated that.
“Not have to, but I want to. The Whers are a vital part of the Weyr, and from my view it’s important to know about them.”
Healing them, you mean?
“That too.” Hailreth followed as B’ow started up again before the purple dragon spoke again.
Why do you walk like that? He put his nose closer to B’ow’s feet, which were rolling smoothly on the ground making hardly a sound. You walk like that a lot, but much more here than usually. B’ow smirked slightly.
“Habit.” Hailreth tilted his head and sat down. B’ow stopped and turned looking faintly amused. “I told you that I got in trouble for sneaking out, yes?” The dragon nodded. “It’s very hard to sneak around Whers. But people rely on what they can see and what they can hear. So I get a lot quieter around here, because I don’t want to make a scene.”
But you are allowed to be here.
“Yes, but it’s second nature at this point, and it certainly doesn’t hurt anyone. Besides, you are not sneaky.”
I see. You said before that I could try. What did you mean by that?
B’ow looked critically at Hailreth and then smiled. Just a small little thing. That is for later.
No fair, I want to be in on the plans. Hailreth wasn’t really good at pouting, so it amused B’ow when he tried. However the boy turned back, lookin thoughtful again.
“Have I shown you how I can make stuff disappear yet?”
You can do that!? Let me see! Hailreth scooted forward, nose pointed at his rider. B’ow produced a glove, one he kept in his pouch for everyday use. He showed it to the dragon, who was observing intently. He boy balled it up in his hands and pushed his hands together, opening them to reveal that glove had vanished. Hailreth just stared for a moment. Mine, you didn’t tell me you were magic!
“No, I’m not magic. It just takes practice.”
Teach me? Please!
“I’m not sure I can, it’s sort of complicated even when you do have hands. Besides, dragons have all sorts of things they can do even without what looks like magic.”
Hailreth thought about it for a while, considering it before perking up and looking back toward his rider. I’ve decided its magic anyways. B’ow opened his mouth but Hailreth spoke first. Its more fun if its magic, so it is. Confident in his assessment he trotted forward and B’ow followed considering his dragon, in a slightly different light.
