Rilora's closed eyes and Archith's comment let Artemis know that Rilora still - fretted? Was nervous? She didn't know the proper word to use to describe what she thought her Weyrwoman was doing. She seemed nervous. That was normal, in any position of power, perhaps, but - nerves stopped people from doing things. Why succumb to them when there was so much more to do?
On the landing, Zabrielth nodded her head in silent agreement with her Rider, looking down at the Weyr with softly whirling eyes. She liked this perch very much.
So Artemis cleared her voice softly to let Rilora know she was about to speak - after all, the woman's eyes were still closed, her mind still focused on whatever she was thinking - and answered her questions. "It depends. If I were them, I would continue to try to fraction us from the inside as they're doing now. Find the Riders who feel like they don't belong, or who no longer fit in like they used to, or have lost something to the Weyr, and make them feel like it would benefit them to help in whatever this group's plan is. For instance, Saphireth's Rider-" Artemis knew dragons better than names "-would be a good target, given all she's lost recently. And any transfer Rider who was forced here rather than voluntarily coming."
Her mind drifted back to her own Hatching feast, and she wrinkled her nose at the memory of the obnoxious Bronze rider.
"They could also try to break apart the bonds with the other Weyrs, or go a different route entirely and try to break our relationship with our Holds - say that by straightening the bonds with other Weyrs, it will ruin them, and then making a point to start ruining them if they don't help." Artemis twitched her head to side, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "Or they could wait and do nothing, or do something I have yet to think of. After all, I don't know the complete assets they have, or what they have available to them."
She straightened her head again, eyes refocusing; her entire face seemed to sharpen, with cheekbones suddenly highlighted and hair suddenly wild. Like the day in L'ras' office, she seemed more wildling than Rider. "But there is no sense in staying alone. Strengthing the bonds will only help us now and in the long run. Start with allies we already have; a delegation to Ice Stone Weyr would work well, and maybe start working with Fort to strengthen our reputation up North. It would benefit all Weyrs to face this strange enemy together - after all, who says they will be done with dragons once they've finished their work here? And Benden or Ista is as likely a target as any, especially if they grow..."
Her voice faded again, and she shrugged, as if the things she said did not make sense. "But that's just a thought."
