Kheveptsol is a healthy and strong lad with the sun in his skin. He stands at an average height of 5’10” and looks ready to go climb the nearest mountain at a moment’s notice, given the confident tilt of his head and the look in his eyes. His eyes are an earthy brown with pronounced brows over them. They match his midnight black hair. His hair has a transient blue sheen that appears under the moons and is worn just short of his ears. In the cold months in the hills he’s let it grow longer, but having moved to a tropical climate he keeps it at its shorter length. He’s fond of functional clothes worn in just right and while he knows how to clean up properly after a long trek through the hills, his formal fashion sense is lacking.

It is a challenge to content Kheveptsol. His desire for new adventure and switching up the routine has often gotten him in trouble, but that has done little to dampen his actions. As much as he’s praised for picking up on new skills, his nature to grow bored with these skills has frustrated many a teacher. He enjoys the ambitions and long term goals of others, even makes a few for himself, but they change as often as the seasons.
Kheveptsol was born and raised in the outdoor air and prefers it greatly to being cooped up in doors. Many of the indoor activities he knows, cooking, cleaning, and reading, are on the bottom of his list of exciting things to do. Especially account for the oft hidden fact that he can’t read. He can just barely scratch out his name, and if his brother’s taunts are true, he may have even added in a letter. He’s always been too embarrassed about the circumstances to ask his mom how his name is properly spelled. It’s so rarely needed.
He’s happy enough to work with people who will do their work, talk to people about the weather and wish them a good day. It’s the deep stuff that he doesn’t bring up or want to talk about, especially if it’s personal. So while he’s good with names he doesn’t tend to inquire about the details beyond what polite conversation calls for.
If there’s anything guaranteed to make Kheveptsol smile it’s canines. He loves the furry animals dearly and worked closely with several in the mountains. He’s also a fair hand at training them and will instantly warm up to any person who has a lolling tongued furball in tow.
Kheveptsol was born amongst the traditional community in Shimmer Bay Hold. He was six when his dad walked out on the family to start a new life without them. In time they too moved on and his mom, problematically unmarried, had another son. The traditional Hold shunned them from the community and without work or friends, Kheveptsol’s mother packed their things and waited for the right moment to depart. A band of roving goatherds came through the Hold not much later. Kheveptsol’s mother had distant relatives amongst the herding folk where kin ties of any distance were strong. The family traveled the hills and mountains between Shimmer Bay and Golden Valley with the caprine herd and their herding canines. Kheveptsol became quite the hand able to work well with the stubborn animals and had a bond especially with the canines. On the hills of Golden Valley his second brother was born.
One Turn when food for the herd was particularly hard to come by, the herders set up in the valley to the north, near the ruins of Dark Mists Weyr. It left a good part of their number on edge and filled with unease, each with their own dark dreams of ill meaning spirits and cursed grounds. There must be a reason, they purported, that these lands had been left uninhabited. Kheveptsol, though it set him on edge to see those around him so nervous, had a fascination with the old histories. Though the stories were colored with fear he took in the tales of black feathers and valiant dragons, amongst the Riders who had lost their way in the darkness. There must have been a dozen distant family ties to Riders who fought and died in the Weyr War, but Kheveptsol’s favorite was T’by, Rider of Brown Legorth. He had fought well and died well, so the tale went, protecting his home and loved ones, as any man ought. Kheveptsol hadn’t the knack for storytelling, so he still cannot explain the nuances of the tale that brought him to admire the BrownRider, only that he did and does. In his most pleasant dreams he is a victorious warrior of that era, atop a Brown of his own.
It was just as he was finally settling into the life of a herdsman of the outdoors when a dragon from Waterfall Valley offered him Candidacy. Leaving behind his remaining family, and a particular girl whom he hoped to come back for, Kheveptsol took off for the Weyr to seek adventure and fortune. What he found was a life much the same, working with animals, besides the permanent bed in the uncomfortably small indoors. Feeling restless, and knowing that Rainbow Mists Weyr at least had a bustling Hold on its doorstep, he requested a transfer. Now at the new Weyr his hopes are much the same, to find the footsteps of legends and walk after them.
Color: Brown (m) (AF7817)
Size: 32 feet
Personality: Ornoth knows exactly who he is: a Brown dragon, who belongs to His, a dragon of Rainbow Mists Weyr, who will do his best for his Weyr and for his Rider. After all, what greater joy is there than taking care of those who care for him? The little things he enjoys – and he does enjoy the little things – don’t compare to waking up and stretching your wings and rubbing your head against your Rider’s palm and moving forward. Ornoth could easily become a Wingleader one day, given his relaxed and confident attitude.
