"Let me see it," The command was as much a question as Jerston stepped beside Holtran, his hand reaching palm up and expecting the boy to place his hand there for examination. He -was- wearing healer green after all.
Jerston had made his way towards the food stalls while deciding whether to show off Shara's tricks or not and caught sight of the canine nipping Holtran's hand. He knew the disgusting things dogs ate and any wound left untended risked infection. Now he stared at the boy's face, his other hand already going to a pouch at his hip that contained his basic first aid kit.
Shara let out a growl, followed by a sharp bark to send the other canine away. Last thing they needed was more injuries and if the canine couldn't behave it could find a meal somewhere her human wasn't.
Holt looked up at the young man a couple Turns older than him. He was quizzical until he saw the healer's green the other boy wore. Obediently he set his injured hand in the outstretched one. Now that he had more time to look at it the wound looked worse than he remembered it. It wasn't just the one tooth hole-shaped mark but a group of other, smaller ones as well. Holt frowned. This displeased him. Not only was it a bother it was going to interfere with his holiday. Just his luck.
"How's it look?" he asked. Slight throbs still ran up his arm. Pain was not welcome company. "Can you fix it up?"
The miner boy looked down at the newly arrived canine near the healer. He jumped just barely as it started barking. Was there no end to them? Though somewhat less companionable towards people in general, Holt preferred whers to canines. They were less likely to jump up on you...or bite your hand once they knew better.

“I don’t see why not,” Kalitar replied, walking over to the fruit and picking it up. He returned and started to hand it to Holt, but paused in the action when the young man in healer’s green approached and started examining Holt’s hand. Now that he was looking closer, the injury to Holt’s hand didn’t look so good, the canine had left the bloody marks of several of its teeth. His first impulse was to try and lighten the mood, but he thought that jokes would probably be inappropriate here. He bit his tongue on his reflexive query as to whether Holt was ok; the healer would be much better at handling injuries than anything he could come up with. He didn’t notice the brief drama between the two canines, because he was paying more attention to Holt and the healer. Forgotten in his right hand, now hanging at his side, was the pierced redfruit.

First to come from Jerston's pouch as he looked over the hand was a cloth wrapped around a vial of clear liquid. Simply water. He unstopped the vial and poured a small amount over the wounds to clear away the blood so he could get a better look. With the smeared blood cleared away he noted the size and depth of each individual cut.
"That one needs a stitch, but the rest look clean enough. Lucky it didn't try to hold on," He said, his voice carrying the tone of one assessing a problem.
He released the hand for moment to put gloves on, instructing Holt to keep it held where he could tend it. Once his hands were gloved, he pulled the bottle of redwort, a small amount was dripped onto the hands and then spread over the wounds as an antiseptic and then the green bottle of numbweed replaced the redwort. He slathered the wounds generously, saying "This should take care of the pain,"
The numbweed was allowed a moment to set in while he replaced the numbweed in the pouch and pulled out his suture kit. Needle was already threaded just in case. "You might feel a slight pinch," He murmured just loud enough for Holt to hear it, and then put the stitch in place without another word, tying off both ends.
He wrapped the wound gently in gauzy bandaid. "Alright, you should heal up fine. Make sure you change the dressing once a day and come by the infirmary if it starts showing signs of infection." he instructed, glancing now at the other boy there as well. "And be careful with those knives. I don't want to have to treat someone for a worse injury." He told him, a sparkle in the depth of his eyes showing and admiration for the skill that his voice did not betray.

Kalitar easily met the healer’s eyes during the brief glance, a gesture of equals, infused with some amount of respect for the other youth’s quick and decisive action. He allowed himself to preen a little at the unspoken admiration, as Holt was ok. He’d watched more than enough meetings between his and Jatheiron’s fathers and other people of importance that he could pick up on the subtle nuances of gesture and tone that gave hints to a speaker’s true thoughts, so despite the fact that what was spoken was a warning, he chose to take it as a compliment as well, and an answering sparkle entered his grey eyes and some of his tension left his posture. It didn’t seem like the healer was going to get him into trouble. Especially as he fully intended to be careful with the knives, which were weapons as well as tools and so deserved a measure of respect.
Raaiz was simply overwhelmed by the festives going on around him. It was only at huge events and celebrations like this that the sheer number of people that were a part of the Weyr became clear. All these people... all these dragons. It wasn't as if Raaiz hadn't seen dragons before, but his new position as a candidate seemed to have changed his perceptions of the world. Dragons had taken on new meanings, new weight, new... solidity in his mind now that they and the terrible responsibility that came with them had suddenly came within his grasp. Well, maybe, it's not like he was certain to impress and those nagging doubts about his chances still hovered in his mind like lurking bats.
However, these thoughts and nervousness were buried in his sub-conscience for now, simply adding to the wonder and unreal qualtiy to the festival. Bright decorations and the thick crowds of people assaulted Raaiz's senses in a wonderful barrage. Raaiz watched rambunctious fire lizards tussling on top of a booth one moment, and the next moment his eyes were pulled to performers while his nose fought for him to pay attention to the wonderful foods being sold.
He had no money to buy from the vendors and he certainly wasn't going to be donating any skills to the talent contest. He hadn't sought out any of his fellow candidates yet, though perhaps he should, and so Raaiz was more than happy to stand in the crowd and merely observe. The talent show had finally won his attentions, and he had drawn close to the stage, smiling with his wide blue-grey eyes staring up at whoever was performing. He had liked the harper, he had enraptured him with his song, but he applauded brightly and equally for each and every performer.
Koga was walking through the crowd. She was wearing a dress, but she really didn't much care for it. The talent show, especially the Harper. She had been thinking about entering, but now she wasn't so sure. Sure, she had her talents, but there was no way she could compete with him! She bit her lip and started to walk away.
As he walked, she stopped, spotting someone she didn't really recognize. Well. Time to introduce herself, she supposed. She liked to know anyone and everyone at the Weyr. "Hello," she said to the boy, for he was, indeed, at least a couple years younger than her now eighteen Turns. "I'm Koga. Welcome to Rainbow Mists Weyr."
She grinned and looked back towards the stage. She hummed happily and dusted off her dress as if there was actually something on it. "May I ask your name? And what do you think of the Weyr?"
Koga was a forward type of person and often blunt. She valued honesty above so much else. It was just a fact of life.
She stood strongly and resolutely as always, a certain pride in her bearing and manner, her chin lifted, but not in a way as to look down at the world, but one that suggested utter confidence in one's self and place in the world. Koga was definitely what you might call overconfident...
For a long moment Raaiz didn't realize that Koga was talking to him, eyes focused on the show. When she introduced herself to him however, he gave a small jerk of recognition and realized he was being addressed. As he turned it only took him a second to take in who was talking to him and he shrunk back a bit. He had been relatively at ease in the anonymity of the crowd, standing up straight to get the best view, but as he saw Koga he slouched down a little and his slightly inward pointed toes turned further as he pulled his arms to his sides.
A girl had just come up and picked him out of the crowd to introduce herself.
An older girl.
"A-ah! Sorry I didn't realize you were talking to me!" he said quickly, "It's just the crowd is kind of loud and I didn't realize you were talking to me and I didn't mean to ignore you- not that I would ever mean to ignore anyone it just sort've happened I would never purposely ignore someone especially since I wasn't even talking to anyone else or anything-" In his light panic Raiz didn't have time to prepare anything to say and so ended up babbling the first words that came to his mind. He realized his last words came off defensive and gave a meek nervous laugh as if that would offset them.
Raiz realized that she had welcomed him to the Weyr, one of the first people to do so, and his manners demanded that he thank her for it... only setting off more nervous chatter. "Ah, thank you you're one of the first to welcome me that's really nice of you... not as if you're not usually nice I'm sure you're a nice girl but I guess compared to other people you're nicer than them? Or at least you introduce yourself to more people. How'd you know I was new though I was trying not to be obvious I thought I wasn't being obvious but I guess that's kind of hard for me to judge for myself but I was trying not to be obvious. NOT that you couldn't possibly ever see me if I wasn't obvious I mean, you're probably really observative and stuff. I've been told I'm pretty observative but I guess that's kinda because I just watch people a lot I'm kinda shy I guess it makes me nervous to think of other people watching me without knowing it though so I guess I really shouldn't watch people without telling them ohgodI'mtalkingtoomuchagain-" Raaiz silenced himself forcefully by suddenly clapping his hands over his own mouth to quiet his panicking voice.
Raaiz's cheeks were flushed bright red at this point. He had been so excited and agitated by the festival that he had just completely butchered his first actual introduction to someone. In fact... he hadn't actually introduced himself yet. Raaiz looked down at the ground quickly and untangled his hands from his mouth.
"Uh, my name is Raaiz I just came from Cliff-Side SeaHold. ThankyouforwelcomingmetotheWeyr..." he said quickly giving a quick dip of his head for a small bow. He had just made a fool of himself in front of a girl five turns his senior...
The Weyr Games were a loud bustle in Zorasn's mind. The healer, no candidate now, shook his head to clear it. Dodging a seller at a nearby stall, he pushed out a hand to stop some supplies from tumbling out of the shelves. There were other candidates nearby, he fairly recognized the voices. However, he couldn't find them just yet. Passing by where some people were haggling prices, Zorasn nodded to one person then another as he kept his pace. Where to head for now? He couldn't find Sakalas anywhere, and Inoria was lost in the crowd as well. No doubt the sunlancerider was wanting to race her dragoness. Zaranyth was a fast, little thing after all.
Looking up, Zorasn tried to catch site of Takorah even, thinking that if the bird was here Saka would be too. If anyone knew where the socializing was, it would be Saka. No doubt he'd find her there. The young man was so lost in his own musings that he almost bumped into a boy. "Sorry, it's really crowded in here." The boy looked familiar, but Zorasn couldn't be sure. After all, he'd only been here a sevenday. Nodding toward the girl, and bowing to her as well, Zorasn looked over at the show they'd been watching. It was impressive really. "I'm Zorasn. Did you say you were new here? I am a bit as well. I was looking for a friend of mine."
It was then that a familiar caw had Zorasn turning around. Yep, there was Saka up on the talent show stage....
Sakalas smoothed down her clothes. For this she'd worn a tunic made of different materials and colors over light weight pants that were a muddy brownish green color. Her wild, red hair haloed around her in curly masses, sticking out with feathers and braids wherever she saw fit to put them. Blinking her light, champagne brown eyes at her audience the candidate gulped. Takorah called out again from her shoulder, ready to show off already and get this thing on the road. After all, this was his dinner!
"Hi everyone. I'm Saka, and this is Takorah. We're going to do a little show for you all." Getting ready, Saka moved to the far edge of the stage and set down the brown and cream bird. He cocked his head and clacked his beak, but stayed as he had learned to do. His master had not yet called him, it was not his time. Looking out to the audience, Saka began her show. "This is a story about a girl, a girl born in the wilderness away from all Weyr life and troubles. This is a story about love and adventure." Moving a bit forward, Saka trailed her hand behind her as she looked around.
"It was a dark day, another one in a long line of sevendays. That didn't matter though, I knew it would become light as soon as he arrived." At that Saka gave a small twitch of her hand, barely noticeable to the crowd, and Takorah rose up from behind a group and cawed. Fanning out his wings, he flew over to Sakalas' outstretched arm. "I've been alone for so long in my life, and if not for this one I'd be lost. We play all the time. The forest you see is our home, our playground." Pulling out a disk, she pushed Takorah up to where he hovered in the air. "A wild thing like this one though doesn't always answer to me. Often times in fact it has to be a decision between us both."
Crying out, Takorah twirled in the air before Sakalas threw out the disk and he sped after it. "Still, we coexist as two beings should." The bird ducked his head in, nuzzling it lovingly against his master's cheek. Laughing lightly, Saka threw another disk, then two more. On cue, Takorah took off again and caught the first in his beak. Moving his body into a twist, the bird then reached out with his talons for the other two. Easily, he caught them, and landed on the ground in a flurry of feathers. "We stay like this all day, free from the troubles of the world. At the end, I sing to him and he dances."
This was the part Sakalas always feared though. Not that Takorah wouldn't dance for her. No, the predator bird was agile and quick, not to mention well trained. He'd dance. It was her. She could sing, but her voice was something she guarded cautiously. Opening her mouth, the melody rose out sweetly. It was an old lullaby she'd learned from her family. Trader after trader had passed it down, making it the anthem of their work.
"Rising in the morning light, A form so breathtaking is before my sight, Fall, fall and rise again, Dance and rise among our men, The sun and moon you are to us, Standing for everything right and just."
Takorah rose as the song began, rising as she sang then twirling in the air. Around his master he went, cawing in the pause she created.
"Hunt with us side-by-side, As together as the moon and rising tide, Defend us if you will, Sing to me with your lovely trill, Not something that is entirely tamed, The spirit of everything is something unnamed, Rise again for me if you might, Rise before my awed sight."
Here Takorah mimicked her movements as she went around the stage slightly, landing on her arms and hands as she raised them above her head. Balancing there with his wings out, they stopped for a moment before Saka brought Takorah back down to her arm. "Thank you for listening to our story and song. Remember it, for this ideal is lingering, lingering, almost gone." Lifting her eyes back to the crowd, Sakalas took a bow and Takorah cawed again before she took him off stage.
Koga blinked, letting Raaiz finish his long stream of words, at first trying to get a word in edge wise, but finding that, really, she couldn’t. It was just… Too difficult with him creaking out like this. She crossed her arms and waited. Well… He was really freaking out.
“You need to calm down, Raaiz. You’re okay. You’re welcome. Well met.” She gently patted his shoulder. “Trust me… I don’t bite at all.” She looked back at the show as none other than the Aeriemistress came forward. Now that was really unfair, even if her lifewing wasn’t singing with her. But… Koga applauded anyways. “What did you think of that performance, Raaiz?” She smiled kindly at him. “And what about the Weyrharper’s? They certainly are something, aren’t they?”
Koga had that sense of pride again for her Weyr. Yes. She loved this place with all her heart and it would continue on as such and probably only grow. She didn’t think she should ever really be surprised about the Weyr or the talent in it. Impressed, yes, but surprised… Well… there were times to be surprised.
“The Weyr is something pretty spectacular in my own opinion, but I’d like to know yours. How does it compare to your home?” she smiled gently. She was trying to be nice and friendly and she was talking slowly and calmly, not quite watching him, but keeping her eyes on the stage as she attempted to show him he had no reason to be afraid or nervous. He was fine. He was safe. People around him weren’t watching him unless, perhaps, they had heard his quick speaking and been concerned or something.
She looked around her. There was so much to do. She could even see some of the other Candidates milling about and a few more people she didn’t know… Yet. She would know them by the end of the day, she was certain. Or, at least, that was what she had determined. “Did you just arrive today?”

D’nalis watched the Aeriemistress take the stage and felt a smile spread across his lips. If anyone could impress this crowd, it would be her. She could even outshine the Weyrharper, he knew. The girl who had just gone before, though, she had proven that she had talent. And she had a bird, which made him take a further instant liking to her.
Come now, Linked, you should take the stage as well.
The man just gave a slight laugh and shook his head, bowing to his leader as she walked by. I think not, Aash.
“A beautiful piece, m’lady,” he said humbly to her. She was the Aeriemistress for good reason, Dashrana. Talented and an amazing rider. He knew that Aash envied her and her Linked, though D’nalis was just happy for the notoriety that he and Aash had achieved up to this point.
He took a piece of straw from the pouch that, by all appearances, should have contained his marks, and stuck it in his mouth, chewing it slowly as he returned to his typical, almost disrespectful slouch. The relaxed man was not particularly concerned with appearances, though his relaxed nature could be a very good thing in times when it was decidedly more necessary or needed.

Enetta watched her sister as she stood by her booth, the six eggs that she had with her being diligently guarded and looked after by her little pink. It wasn’t an entirely new site… But the fact that Netta didn’t want her own sister to stick around… That was disconcerting to her.
“T’lis… Do you-“ she stopped mid-sentence as she looked up to try to look at her brother, seeing him already gone. She gave a harrumph of annoyance and started walking. Maybe it was just a good idea to meet someone knew. Anyone knew. She was rather tired of all this. Her family leaving her to wander around on her own. How bothersome. She sighed and shook her head, walking into the talent show area. Hmm… So many talented people. What exactly could she do? She found herself thinking about it. She rather wished to enter, but she wasn’t sure she even had a skill to show off…

Talira ran. She glanced over her shoulder only to see that her shorter but much more coordinated friends were gaining on her. Some might question the wisdom of playing tag around a talent show, but not her and her friends. The element of dodging was just adding to the excitement. Of course, there was the small matter that Talira was losing, because her too-long, coltish limbs were not nearly so well coordinated as those of the shorter boys (all her own age) against whom she played.
A slap to her back, at the same time as Kodak shouted “Talira’s it!” signaled the predictable change in the game. Determined to regain her advantage, Talira chased the boys as hard and fast as she could, driving them out of the general area. She glanced to one side, and ran straight into someone. Staggering backwards a step, Talira glanced up at the mahogany hair of a young woman, who was maybe 2-3 inches taller than herself.
“I’m sorry,” she managed to say past the nervous lump in her throat. She thought that she might have heard the young woman’s name mentioned somewhere as Ennetta, but she wasn’t sure. “Are you all right?” she asked, having been told quite often that such was what one did after nearly running over someone.
Seeing his friend get off the stage, Zorasn excused himself from the group hehad been talking to. It may have been rude to suddenly leave, but he didn't mind. His friend needed a congratulations. "Well done Saka, 'Korah." The healer candidate nodded to both the girl and bird before giving Saka a hug. The young candidate smiled back at the older, brother type figure. Her bird chirped as well, not happy to be sharing His with anyone for any reason. Ruffling his wings, the shoulder bird clacked his beak.
"He's temperamental today isn't he?" Zorasn looked over at the bird with a cocked eyebrow. "Apparently," was Saka's answer. Tikorah only clacked his beak again. Beconing the younger candidate over to the stalls, Zorasn pointed out items of interest. He didn't mind shopping with her, not when Saka liked to play around so much. He kept her in line, and she kept him free and somewhat sane. That was their trade off. Spotting Inoria signing up nearby for a race, the candidate pair waved at the rider who searched them. With that they continued on till they saw firelizard eggs.
Stopping, Saka pulled on Zorasn's shirt sleeve. "Look!" Smiling wide, she pointed to the shells that were various colors. Her eyes went to a green and speckled white one and she widened her smile. It was obvious she wanted it. Tiniest however was less than enthused and chirped at his master. How dare she try and replace him! He knew what these little round rocks meant! Calming him down , Sakalas gave the woman an apologetic look. "He's just having one of those days. That ones pretty isn't it Z?" She pointed to the green and white egg again. Zorasn looked at it and nodded. "I like that one myself. Don't know if you'd let us take then both though...." He pointed to a larger black one. Frowning, Saka poked him. "If not you can take yours. I'd like one, but I at least have this ball of feathers here. You're alone."
R’le was enjoying the general bustle of the gather. He could not say if he would rather have dragged a friend along or something but he was having a fine time looking around as it was. Of course many a shop had interesting items to purchase, but he merely window shopped. Occasionally he paused to chat with some of the shopkeepers, but he had a goal in mind. R’le and Quiorith had heard a vicious rumor that there might in fact be a race at some point. No man like R’le or dragon like Quiorith could conceive of missing such a fun event. It was absolutely required they sign up.
As the dark haired man strolled along he paused to listen to some music coming from the talent contest. Nice stuff. He enjoyed it as he maneuvered to the sign ups for the race, feeling Quiorith’s anticipation. R’le approached the sign ups with a grin, selecting what was available. Quiorith was looking forward to having opponents to race against, something he had wanted for a while now. R’le made double sure that what he had signed up for was a race against other riders, and then headed back to see what was going on elsewhere. He decided to go back, past the talent show and to the shops. He had only gone down one side on his way to the sign ups so he decided the other side needed a good once over. There were throngs of people talking and looking here, so he tried not to be in the way as much as he could.
Netta smiled slightly. Oh if only to be a young Candidate again. "Five marks, young ones. ((Not charging marks marks. ^.~)) And you can both take an egg. They should hatch any day now. Here. Let's get the pots." She bent to her booth where the sand was being warmed and her pots were ready to be prepared. "Would you each like a separate one or, perhaps share one?" She prepared two anyways. These two didn't seem to be related, but you never knew.
She looked at her pink who was looking slightly dejected as she watched her eggs go... Again. She chirrupped at her daughter who was behind her, clinging to Hers shirt. All nine of them were there, the Bronze father was curled up on top of the awning, as he often was.
Netta wondered if all of these babies would find a home... or if, maybe... Some would go wild or if, yet again, she would end up attaching yet another of her Pink Saga's babies. Not that she would mind too much. She loved flitters afterall.
Though, some in her family thought it an almost unhealthy obsession that fueled her to become a flitter trainer. But that wasn't the truth of it. Not in the least.
R’le was continuing to make his way around the stalls and such, every once in a while stopping to take a look at the wares. The race time would be diligently informed to him by Quiorith, so he was no longer pressured by worrying about his time. He could actually by something, if required. He had brought marks of course, but nothing as of yet tempted him to part with them. It did not stop him from looking though.
He had just finished a conversation about dragons with a shopkeeper when he came across an area just swimming in firelizards. R’le guessed there was possibly some firelizard eggs available, and decided to try to get one. The woman in charge of them seemed to be chatting with some other customers, so he came from the side so as not to be in their way. He firelizards around seemed to be hers, at least the pink one was. It seemed kinda distressed, perhaps the mother then? He hoped it would not mean that the pink would change her mind and try to get her eggs back. That would be distressing. He returned his attention to the woman instead, trying to follow the conversation. When an opening presented itself, he spoke clearly to the woman in charge. “I don’t suppose you have an egg available still?” R’le smiled hopefully, as if that would guarantee an egg.
