In the Second Interval of Pern's youthful history, there had been peace and a wave of cultural enlightenment as it were, the focus of people on the expansion of arts, wisdom, politics, and pursuits of pleasure. In recent turns however, it's been rumoured that as the Red Star draws near to them, its effects are not only being seen within the changes to Pern itself, but perhaps also within its people.
Unrest has been stirring as political views on Thread's return, turns into an ever widening gap in beliefs, which threatens Pern's traditions. This has been the cause for Telgar's struggles with the resurgence of a rebel force who plagued them in the past. The group tried to create war between Igen and Telgar, but having been unsuccessful in their rebellion and other more recent efforts, they are now focused on trying to put a stop to the collective Weyr efforts of rebuilding Igen before Tread returns. The Chorong Rebels are not the only threat to Telgar's peace, however. Telgar Hold found itself indebted to an Exile who claims to be of Telgar Hold Blood, asking that in repayment, he be restored a position befitting of his lineage, which could cause some political backlash. Now, Telgar leads the way in re-introducing qualified individuals of holdless heritage into a Settlement where they may join the ranks of respectable citizens and become productive members of society, thus safeguarding their future for that inevitable time of Thread's return. Of course, the reasons for the Lord Holder's choosing to build the settlement to gain the favour of the holdless are many seeing as though the rebels are also vying for their support.
In preparation for Thread's return, Fort Weyr is getting ready to transfer riders and other staff to the once abandoned Igen Weyr. Fort has been spearheading this effort, with assistance from Telgar, their transfer Queens eager to see who will Rise first and take position as Senior. Fort's own Senior Queen will rise again soon, so Searches are ongoing for more candidates. Fort also now makes plans for the upcoming Harvest Gather & Masquerade. It will be a night to remember!
Though Keroon is not plagued by the rebellion that grips nearby Telgar, it is not exempt from corruption created by greed. In their recent past, Keroon's Lord Holder had children by two of his wife's handmaids since the Lady Holder was barren. Able to vie for greater position of power for their own families, the circumstance turned into secretive plots against one another in order to secure the future position of their own children. Their lies and deceit turned into the deaths of both the Lord and Lady Holder as well as the mother of his twin boys. The twins being forced into hiding to survive further attack by their eldest brother, they were protected by those who supported their mother, ensuring that when they were old enough, they would return to reclaim their rightful place and exact revenge on their brother for the murder of their mother. In order to set the stage for the return of the twins, the late Lady Holder's handmaid now heads a Trade organization that relies heavily on the Beastcraft trade, called the Dragon's Venture, that has been the front for their existence as the young Heirs have grown up.
