T’vax laughed. It didn’t really sound like a laugh though, not really. It was too dark, an almost twisted sound. It seemed fitting to him, that the once great secret about the connection between Tiberax Noixay and Brencis Kalarn had become so completely well known. It never failed to provide at least a token amusement to him, for all that it had started being less and less of a secret by the time he was around 11 or 12 Turns old.
“Oh, Lord Brencis is still saying he didn’t know anything about it, but…” T’vax shrugged expansively. “Evidence certainly indicates he was involved, or at the very least knew exactly what was going to happen.” Not for the first time, T’vax wished he could recall more of what had happened while he and Davquil had been captives. They might know for sure then, rather than having to say “the evidence points to” and other, related phrases.
“It’s one of the few things there’s almost no debate on,” T’vax said, a certain twist of vicious satisfaction in his voice. Both the firelizards on his shoulders started hissing, eyes whirling faster and starting to shift towards the red end of the spectrum. T’vax heaved a breath, then reached up to rub their heads, first the Aurora, then the Pink.
Every word T'vax spoke was said with such emotion...and the sound he made, as if trying to laugh, but finding the joke too painful for it to be sincere. He'd obviously been a victim of this psycopath's designs, and the fact that a lord holder had aided him...Larsley shuddered. Even as an impassioned observer he couldn't help but be horrified. He turned and reached into the bowl of meat for a thick scrap, which he then threw up into the air for the waiting flitts. He'd needed that momentary distraction. The subject matter of this interview was now very gritty. Not that he wouldn't go on. A thought suddenly occurred to him. It wasn't pleasant, but if what T'vax was saying was true..."Did Lord Brencis have anything to do with the clutch disaster?" There, he said it. He fervently hoped the attack hadn't been directed from that high up. Suppose this turned into an all out war between the hold and the weyr?
