"Huh," Eira put her mug down and crossed her arms against her. "Guess the 'Wings picked the right people. Have you met anyone that halk doesn't grow on?" She supposed the answer was no. "This place had to do better than grow on me. I was so lost when I ended up here. I show up in my Hold clothes and people still think I am..." Eira made a joke. How about that. "So you figured out the healing bit and have been here ever since?"
Kyuuki laughed just a little at the Halk comment. No one that she ever knew had complained about it. Small circle that it was. Her expression dimmed at Eira’s comment. The other woman had a family, a path to follow, all of that before coming here. Rather famous family, really. Kyuuki was rather glad to be herself, she would have wilted up if she had to talk to so many people. However, the conversation shifted.
“I never really had any reason to live elsewhere. Here was good as any other. After Vallesh and Ithnesh sang together, I had every reason to stay.” She sighed, thinking again. “They sang the same song all the way through. Not repeating mind, but every time Vallesh was so inclined, she’d pick up where she left off in her song, and Ithnesh would sing with her. It doesn’t happen all the time, but they both said that their song could only ever fit each other. The last time she was going to sing like that, they sang little bits of melody from all the times before. It was beautiful.” Ithnesh was a curious sort, but both he and Vallesh had insisted that they were the only mates the other would ever have. They just knew. Even so, she knew of other Lifewings that didn’t keep as constant partners. To each Lifewing though, they knew what was right, as natural as breathing.
“I am glad I came here.” A weird, winding path that it was over turns and turns. Her gray eyes flickered up to Eira and she mentioned, “I am glad you are here too.” She took a long sip of Halk. She was feeling a lot, lot better now.
Eira smiled over her mug at Kyuuki. "Me too." She took a sip and resumed smiling, a line of the dark beverage running along her upper lip. It cooled and she realized it was there, only grinning wider. She wiped it off quickly. She had friends. So did Wivish. She was happy for the couples, she was a healer for babies after all. She and Wivish had yet to be so inclined. It suited them perfectly fine for the time being. "Well, you have anything you're up to today? I don't go back on shift until this evening, general infirmary duty and all."
Kyuuki let a little smile light up her face when Eira looked funny, the dark line of Halk on her face. She covered her mouth with her hand so as not to laugh. As Eira made herself presentable again the older woman took a more healthy gulp of Halk, letting it warm her. When she was posed a question from the other healer, she shook her head.
“No, not until T’ruk visits. I think that’s this evening. Vallesh with, um, remind me.” She kept the little smile on her face. The Lifewing was quite good at that. She loved the rider pair as much as she did, after all.
Eira didn't notice Kyuuki's expressions, focusing more on tidying her face.
"Want some company for that waiting?" she asked. Eira sorted through things they could do, though most of what came to mind was simply offering the occasional word through the long infirmary shifts they'd done together. It sounded like an acceptable way to spend an afternoon.
Kyuuki nodded. “I’d like that.” It was amazing how a little conversation could go in making the time pass by quickly, and make one’s mood brighter. It made turns and turns boil down to a few quick steps. Sometimes that was all you needed to get back to the present.
