Evening
Near a food stall
Cr’wean looked stiff, and clearly uncomfortable. Kashpa looked less formal, but was eyeing the lifewingrider while leaning on her hand. The two were seated at a table, across from each other, and there was only a drink for each of them. Cr’wean’s was some manner of fruit juice, Kashpa’s was a little stronger. For a time they just sat in silence, Kashpa staring, and Cr’wean alternately staring at her and his drink. Eventually he cleared his throat.
“So. What are you interested in?” She clearly heard him, but the moment while she thought was long to him. Sharding dates lasted forever as is.
“Well, I like music. And kids.” Cr’wean tried not to choke on air. She kept talking though. “I like teaching. I’m hoping for a younger group.” He calmed down a little, while Kashpa raised an eyebrow. “And what about you?” There was a longer silence. He never really knew where to go with this question. It was common enough on these things, but really most of what he did was healing. It was a fulltime job, between that and Kiyosh. Might as well go with common ground, though he was pretty sure this was already going badly.
“I like music. I sing, somewhat.” He had to. “Do you like to sing?”
“Nope. I play violin.” The blunt response was something that took him aback. Kashpa rather enjoyed the reaction. “But you do, hmm. I hear rider’s sing with their birds, is that nice?”
“It’s okay. We match voices fairly well.” Kashpa was still watching him, and quite honestly Cr’wean couldn’t figure her out. What was she looking at? “So you want to teach?” Kashpa smiled into her hand.
“Yeah. Hopefully for apprentice harpers, or history to hold kids. Or elsewhere.” Cr’wean swore that she didn’t blink. She was just going to stare him down. It was getting hard to focus on conversation. “Wherever I end up I suppose.”
“Sounds like you have a plan.” Kashpa continued to stare though. He couldn’t stop from blurting out, “What are you staring at?”
“You have really curly hair. It’s kinda cute.” And with that he turned red. Kashpa grinned into her hand. This one was hilarious at least. He was stiff and awkward but she could get a rise out of him. She couldn’t help it, she pushed it a little further. “I bet our kids would be really cute.” Cr’wean suddenly pushed his chair back and stood up. He was beat red.
“Excuse me, I’ll be back.” He departed rather unceremoniously. Kashpa tried not to laugh. Oh she felt a little bad about this teasing, but she couldn’t help it sometimes. He sure could turn red that one. She liked to tease him but she figured they wouldn’t be a good match. Well, and she was slightly miffed that her mother had given her an ultimatum about going on a date. Poor Cr’wean was the victim here.
It was hard to tell who was sabotaging this date more, Cr’wean and his awkwardness or Kashpa and her teasing. Either way, it was quite the evening.
