A whistle pierced the air as Lan thrust his pole axe. A moment later a black wher lunged in front of him, before looking back at her handler. A less sharp whistle was given and he let out a deep breath. That was enough training for now. The response was immediate. The Black-Gray Wher jumped to Lan, the room being filled with Ethilask’s noise.
“Prrrrrrrr!”
“Good work Ethilask.” He gave her a pet, and went to sit next to the wall. Ethilask followed, sitting right next to her human while he rested. Yes, her human. No matter what bratty firelizards had to say about it. She was the on deserving of attention and praise. Even if he always went to them and the feathery thing. Ethilask sulked a little at the thought.
“What are you up to now Ethilask? You did good.” Lan found that spot, the one on her shoulders that she liked scratched, which almost imeddiatly had the desired effect of getting Ethilask in a good mood. Yes. Her human. He was hers. No one else could have him. They would slip into the night and take out all those that needed to be subdued. Yes.
Lan sighed, mostly out of relief. It was hard to deal with Ethilask sometimes. Her train of thought could move so quickly sometimes, but he did try to keep ahead of the little moments that her mood swung sour. It was even more important now.
War huh? The guards were certainly more active now, and there was a lot of training going on. Himself included. He didn’t know if he was pushing himself too hard, but everyone was working now. Nighttime seemed that much more dangerous. Even if it had been quiet. Still, it was hard to think about that right now, what with the noise of a pleased Wher distracting him. She moved a little closer, getting another desired pat. Maybe Ethilask was doing now what he always did for her, cheering him up in times of stress.
Lan smiled at the thought and rubbed Ethilask as she merely continued to make the night a more pleasant place.
