Thousands of years before, Pern was destroyed by a series of changes that brought about the end of life as they had known it. History speaks of a man named Aivas, found lost and wandering the echoes of the south, and his manipulations and sweet promises brought about Pern's downfall.
Climates changed, land masses shifted and over thousands of years, the lush and fertile planet became deadly. Thread still fell from the skies, but the soil became harsh and unyielding for crops, deadly dust storms whipped up where lush forests had been, and vast jungles sprung where flat land had been before. Over thousands of years, Pern herself became a weapon against her people. With the constant struggle for food, shelter and Thread, Pern's population dwindled until only one weyrhold remained.
There were those who lived in what became known as the Dead Zones, those who raided and stole for their living, and those who were born with strange aberrations that became known as Tainted. Dragons dwindled in size, and it was discovered they could no longer between, but they were still needed for Thread. Life, dwindled.
Pern may have become hostile, but her inhabitants are nothing if not survivors.

The harsh heat of Dry season has passed. Storm clouds roll in, and Last Chance prepares for the things to come. The scout plot in the Zones returned successful - with minor injuries, no loss of life, and most importantly... Likyth's last clutch. Though some of the eggs are obviously mutated from their time untended and unprotected from the elements, the small clutch brings a sense of hope to the weary halls. Soon, the eggs will hatch and - hopefully - Impress, bolstering the ranks of Last Chance just a little further before the ice creeps in.
As always, it's a struggle to prepare for the colder seasons. Sickness and hunger will soon run rampart through the weyrhold as Frozen sinks deep into to bones of the weyr, but for now, there is hope.

Winter has well and truly set in at Last Chance. The constant rains have subsided, and the cold darkness of the Frozen season creeps over the halls. With Callisk's clutch handed to their rightful handlers, the time now is to wait for them to hatch and hopefully Impress, it clears the way for green Autynnith's clutch to be present on the sands. Assuming, of course, they too survive winter's freezing grip. The weyr might be essentially on lock down while blizzards rage, but that doesn't mean the raiders stop going hungry, plots stop being hatched or the food is going to last the entire season of snow and bitterness. Frozen has set in, and it's time for Last Chance to buckle down and try to stay warm.
The Demon Cycle Clutch of Autynnith and Eirnath has hatched successfully. Despite initial concerns, all hatchlings found their homes eventually, if not safely. Mercury Tazinyth has flown to be caught by blue Eyvinth, leaving the hope of new eggs come the planting season. Even with the new bonds and the hope on the horizon though, not all is well in Last Chance. The winter sinks claws ever deeper, food stocks dwindle and tempers kindle far quicker. Surprisingly, perhaps, the Raiders have been quiet, but whether that is the calm before the storm or an indication of something far more sinister, no one can know. All Last Chance can do is wait and watch for the snows to melt.
As the turn 9068 begins, the snows of frozen melt away to the muddy slush of planting. The weyr now has three weyrling classes to maintain, but all eyes are to the fields to begin the tedious work of surviving the next frozen season. Now is the time to watch the borders for the raiders, desperate from the winter cold. It may also, however, be the time to look beyond the weyr borders. Discoveries are always being made, and perhaps, it's time to delve into the dark unknown that is the wilds. There, the riders face unimaginable peril, make choices that will change the course of the weyrhold's future. The weather is warming up, but it's not the only thing coming to boil.
The Champions of Kirkwall have hatched! Mostly successfully. The death of two of Autynnith's clutch weighs heavy on the weyrhold, just in time for the rains to begin. With the scouts returned from the wilds, the startling news that Last Chance is not alone in the world forces a realization of many, and offers salvation to the clan members of Iyavere. There is, however, always threat on the horizon. Rainy season means the threat of the raiders rise, and the ever overshadowing fears for Frozen. But there's always the brighter aspects too, allowing many something to look forward to.

Frozen slowly rolls to a close, and Last Chance Weyrhold celebrates new life and readies itself for the pressures of planting. After an unseasonably profitable year, spirits are on the rise as the weather turns warm, even if not everything is calm. With the clans people discovered, it's obvious that Last Chance is not as alone as they once thought, and with that knowledge comes the danger of the unknown. Not all dangers are from outside the weyrhold however, and as the new turn rolls in, shadows are lengthening at Last Chance. Even with the new guards and their whers, even with a new clutch on the sands, it may not be enough to see the turn through.

A dark shadow lingers in the weyr of Last Chance. Under the shadow of the Rainy-Frozen season, 9069 A.t.C, five people have lost their lives to a murderer stalking the halls. The Wherguard are pushed to their limit, seeking help in every available corner to find the creature responsible for the deaths. It is not the first serial killer to strike the struggling community, but this comes upon the realization that they are not alone in the world following the discovery of the Wilds Clans. Snow piles up, bringing blistering winds and starvation to the weyrhold, but with Planting just around the corner, there is hope yet for something good to come of the darkness. Autynnith, the weyrleader's green, has risen and her clutch will bring with it new members to the ranks of the protectors, her last clutch, however, was a blood thirsty arena and there are some that wonder if perhaps this will be merely a repetition of history.
With the discovery of the Clans, Last Chance has come to the realization that they are no longer alone, and with that knowledge, comes the understanding that there may be more beyond the weyr, beyond the wilds and beyond the zones. They are not alone, and perhaps it is better to find them, before those who have survived outside the weyr find it. It is time to explore beyond their borders, beyond the world they know and seek something more - while the raiders skirmish the borders for the very thing no one has extra to share: food.
