Late Afternoon
Shri did not look exhausted. She did not look like she was annoyed. Shri was very, very good at hiding such things. Merchant face and all.
She was currently sitting at a table she had set up in the bowl. It was set up so that she was sitting with her back to a wall, entirely on purpose, as well as away from close doors. The reason was because of the pots that were next to her, with only a few actually on the table. Dea was close, obviously, trying to watch all the eggs, but keeping special attention to two pots in particular. Those two pots held eggs that were on Shri’s particular list. The list were for eggs that she would not simply let anyone purchase. Dea’s own egg had been on such a list long ago, as had Selt’s. Basically, eggs that she didn’t think just anyone could handle. The handful on the table she felt relatively secure in selling to those who wanted an egg from a Copper Firelizard.
Problem was that seemed to be absolutely no one.
“Good Afternoon Shri.”
Almost no one.
“Good afternoon Alten.” Shri regarded the other merchant with a serious gaze, though she was never unaware of her Firelizards. Dea’s angry gaze followed the man as he stood before the table, hands behind his back. Selt was hiding…somewhere. Far enough away from the Copper to not be in play. Analis sat on the table, vigilant without being tense. “Are you a customer today?”
The man chuckled. “Customer and Merchant.”
“I am afraid you might be disappointed today.”
“Don’t be like that, I could get them safely into good homes, at fine prices too.”
“Mm. I must decline. Though feel free to stay if you want to browse for personal use. I could find a discount for you somewhere in my books.” Shri’s lip turned up only very slightly. She didn’t smile much. The other Merchant’s smile never faltered, though his eyes became tense.
“As you like. I will be here all day if you change your mind. Good luck.” He strolled away, very relaxed and calm. He knew as well as she did that she hadn’t sold ANY eggs this time. She wasn’t going to make any money if they all went wild. The difference was, she would rather that, then mismatch humans to eggs. Plus, as Dea was so confident about her eggs, Shri shared that confidence. If they went wild, they would be fine.
It was still discouraging. The sign for firelizard eggs stayed up though, and she waited in the afternoon sun for anyone who was interested. Even if the day wore on too fast with not a single customer.
