The increasing heat of the afternoon was hidden by the gusts of wind coming in off the ocean. Holt sat on the bluff overlooking the ocean, Korith curled behind him. He knew he could escape the cooling wind if he needed to, either by moving behind his Blue or if they merely went elsewhere; however the view from this spot had him captivated that day. They were only staying for a short rest, anyhow. Enough time to eat lunch, wait a little while, and then go and make the day's last deliveries. And then he'd be home again, and it was the hot time of the Turn at Rainbow Mists. A little coolness here wouldn't hurt, not to mention it was more convenient than having to peal off his riding gear just to sit and eat.
There were benefits to home, though in its summer heat he missed the air of his once home near Dragon Ridge. He was due to visit, but no short stop would do for his parents, and it was harder and harder to get away from work. With so much tension, change and mistrust in the world, having the same messenger brought some amount of consistency. He could only hope that as the stacks of papers grew thicker, the chances of some resolution grew too.
But until then, he did his work, and cherished his moments home with his new little family. His weyrmate and their son. Paradoxically strong and delicate. Perhaps not so unlike the Weyrs.
