It has been many thousand Turns since our time. In this timeline, we have entered a Steampunk Era. So what has become of Riders?
Well, Dragon's with their incredible ability to Between have become seen as something to be worshiped as the creatures that can transcend death and their Riders hold a place equal with them in reverence.
WherHandlers are often viewed as caretakers, heralds, and what would be seen as priests and priestesses for the DragonRiders. They are those who could not Impress a dragon.
Firelizards are restricted only to those who a Rider, particularly a Rider of higher rank deems may have them and to those who live within the walls of the Weyr.
Laws are dictated by the eldest Sr. Weyrwoman of the Weyrs.
--- In an attempt to keep it basic, there you are. ^^';
The Weyr we are located at in this particular story will be SMW, just for sake of simplicity. --- All ranks are welcome. If you would like to claim a leadership position, please post so.
She stood facing the Hatchlings. Her dark hair fell down around her shoulders and her large, curious eyes took in all that went on. She felt nervous. She had heard the stories of horrible maulings... Even death, but it was such an honor even to stand. It was worth the risk. Besides, her life would not be wasted if she were to die. No scar would be a waste. It would be a badge of honor.
She pulled at the plain, shapeless white Candidate's tunic she wore subconsciously. She could only hope to Impress. If she did not, she had four more Turns in which to Impress before she was no longer of age. That would be the end of her, she though, if she did not Impress by that time. She would take anything if only she would Impress.
She was originally from the Harper Hall. The gitar and her voice were her primary training. She hoped to Impress a dragonet who would love music as much as her.
It was then that a cracking sound caught her attention. The humming, which had already become quite deafening, seemed to pick up even further. The first egg was shaking and cracking down its center. She felt her breath catch in her throat.
