The brown haired candidate was more surprised then anything else when the Queen moved him into position. He tried just to go along with it, not to be trouble. He would have to not stand by his brother, but that was fine, he had explained as well as he was going to what had happened.
‘I could have done better.’ Dalziel was no stranger to this thought as he was pushed into his place. How was not entirely sure how but he could have. If he had a better internal alarm. That was it. He would practice waking up at the same time every day from now on. He would do that next time. Maybe he should train Pounce a little better too. There, that was two things he could do to get better. He looked a little pleased with himself for this little list, forgetting for a moment that he was a candidate, and had not been pushed off of the sands. He remembered quickly though, and focused his eyes straight ahead.
He spotted a blue moving about the boys, impressing someone he did not know. The blue and his rider headed off the sands and Dalziel smiled. He realized he felt more like and observer then an actual participant in this hatching. He didn’t think it was bad exactly, or at least he didn’t care that he felt that way. It was nice to have an up close view. When the purple dragonet impressed, he could see it very well. Which he liked a lot.

Mau was distracted enough that when she was pushed back into place, she completely lost her balance. She sat on the sands for a moment, dizzy for the sudden movement. Apparently her head cold was worse then she thought. She took a deep breath and stood up, a little unsteady for a moment. With concentration, she was just fine again, and could stand with her eyes forward without trouble. Her hands had got hot, but she had only put them on the sands to get herself upright. Unconsciously the handkerchief in her hand was pressed together into a small ball, as she focused. She was back here but that was fine with her. Even if she was on the short side, she could manage. She supposed that it did not matter much to her if she new what colors there were before they came by, as she did not know much about the colors anyway. She could just see the ones that went by the girls.
The first dragonet did not have to been seen, it was heard. Mau was very perplexed as to what the sound was. She had never heard a dragon try to sing before. It sounded kinda off, though she expected that it was better then if she herself tried a tune. She was a better dancer then singer. She spotted a lovely warm colored dragonet impress, which was easier to see because it was on the girls’ side of the sands. Between head colds and her height she would focus her attention here rather then to the guys.
