Name: T'shom
Name PreImpression: Toshom
Age: 71 (3001.10.02)
Gender: Male
Rank: Lifewing Rider
Sexuality: Hetero
Appearance: Toshom stands about 6'2". His hair is a very light blond, bleached by the sun, and short and his eyes are a deep blue flecked with green
Like Verren, Toshom has many scars to show for his life. Many are hidden beneath his clothing, but a few are hard to hide in such heat. His right arm bears long jagged scar where bone broke through the skin. that arm is also crooked because the break didn't heal quite right. Another fairly obvious one runs along the side of his face, from his ear, across his cheek and curving slightly under his chin. Clearly caused by a knife, this scar is smooth, but sticks out white against his dark skin.
Personality: Toshom is strong. He has a commanding personality. Not like he bosses people around, but more that he knows how to take charge in a situation where most people panic. He thinks things all the way through before he'll make a move. He remains calm and knows how to open his mind to all possiblities. While he is willing and ready to take charge if need be, he also knows when to step back and let another person or dragon.
As a result of his history, however, Toshom is shy in one-on-one situations and he has a tendency to withdraw mentally in emotional or stressful situations. This odd blank look takes over his eyes where they usually shine, but aside from the blank look in his eyes one would never be able to tell something is wrong.. It's almost like he shuts down his emotions and only displays what people want to see. This ability is something he and his brother share.
Toshom is the more caring of the two. He'll help where asked and the idea of someone hurting another churns his blood... It's become a part of his nature to defend the weak and helpless. That said, such situations also set off his temper, which could make him go too far in "defending" such people.
He is also understanding in an almost wise beyond his turns sort of way. He's the type to listen and truly understand what one is saying or where they are coming from.
History: Toshom and Verren grew up in a hold on the Southern continent. Their mother died when they were three turns old by way of drowning. Toshom fell into a river reaching for a flower to give his mother and she fell in pulling him out. She managed to get ahold of the bank long enough thrust the child into his fathers arms, but when he tried to pull her out she slipped and the current pulled her under and away.
From that day forward Toshom and Verren could do no right and when they did wrong they were beaten. Not just a swat to the butt or a smack on the mouth.. but beaten bloody. They came home late for supper, they didn't eat and were beaten until their father was satisfied they'd learned their lesson. They didn't do their chores in a timely fashion and they were beaten until they lost consciousness and often then some. No matter how small the offense, it was a reason to hurt them.
Of course, he was careful most of the time. They only ended up in the infirmary ten percent of the time. At the age of sixteen they were searched by Rainbow Mists Weyr, but as they were gathering their few belongings their father went into a rage. Though they managed to make it out of the cot, their father caught up with them as they were approaching the dragon and his rider. Toshom saw the knife in their father's hand before Verren and leaped at him to intercept the attack. He managed to fend off his father for a short time with minimal damage, but before anyone could reach them the knife had been plunged into Toshom's chest. He spent the next several seven-days in the Weyr's infirmary and his brother was at his side at every moment he was able.
His injuries included a deep wound on his right shoulder that cut into the muscle, the afore mentioned wound to his chest, a deep gash to his left forearm and several small scratches.
No one knows for sure what happened to their father. When the Search dragon moved to separate them the man leaped to his feet and took off through the crowd that had gathered for the Search, leaving his knife in Toshom's chest.
It took a full turn for Toshom to recover to a point that he was able to stand as a candidate. By this time an expedition was being mounted to search what appeared to be an abandoned Deathwing hive. Toshom opted to join the mission rather than waiting for the dragons on the sands to hatch. It turned out well indeed that he did, because though he broke his arm in a cave in, he also managed to find Sojouresh there. Linked to the Chaffinch Lifewing, he returned with the others to the Weyr only to find his brother, who had Impressed while he was away, wanted nothing more to do with him.
Lifewing Name: Sojouresh
Lifewing Color: Chaffinch
Lifewing Age:11 Months (09.07.01/02)
Pets:
Name: Mos
Gender: Male
Species: Canine
Age: Three turns
Appearance: Mos his light brown (almost tan) in color with black hair streaked through out his coat. (Think German Shepard.) He comes up to just above Toshom's knee when on all four paws, and stands about 4' when on his hind legs. There's a black spot just behind his right ear.
Personality: Mos is Toshom's through and through. He is loyal and intelligent. When you look into his eyes you don't see the "duh, I want food" look. Rather, his eyes say "What do you ask of me?".. Don't let the intelligence and sophisticated behavior fool you. He is still playful too. He'll play fetch any time if you start it.
History: Toshom found Mos on the side of the road with a broken leg. No one was around and the puppy was whining a crying in pain. He looked terrible. Toshom picked him up and carried him to the infirmary where one of the healers put a cast on his leg and kept him over night for Toshom.
Knowing he would get extra beatings for it and be forced to go without, Toshom took the blanket from his bed and used a hollow tree to hide Mos. Every day he gave his half of his lunch and he spent time talking to him, loving on him and when he healed, training him. Mos, in turn, became the loyal and protective pet he is now.
