“This place is too big. I'm going to get lost. Maybe I should make myself a map.” Jaryt mused, running a nervous hand through his own hair. It had been a whirlwind since he'd gotten off the dragon. Paraded before people and then settled here in his new room to wait for the hatching day. Did he really think he could Impress a dragon? There was really nothing significant about him but his shadowed lineage. As if he'd run around broadcasting that to anyone.

It wasn't like he really had proof, when he thought about it. What if he did? Did he expect the faceless Lord Holder to rush to the farm, swoop him up, and carry him to a life of wealth and prospects? No. He wanted to be a rider. His stomach gave an unhappy grumble and he glanced down at it as if it was not attached. It certainly had a mind of it's own.

One hand came up, rubbing at it absently. Did he really want to go outside this room he'd been given and face this new world, yet? Not really. Being a teenage boy, though, the hunger won. Rummaging through the few clothes he'd brought with him he pulled out a leather vest. It was part of his gather wear, generally, but because of the snug fit this year it had been delegated to general wear. It was one of his favourite pieces of clothing though, so he enjoyed wearing it more.

Shrugging it on over the white shirt he wore he ran a hand through his hair. It flopped back up in a dishevelled manner and Jaryt sighed. After seventeen years he should know better by now. He headed outside the barracks room he'd been given and into the hallway. A left turn and a few steps took him into a greater cavern and he paused to marvel. Things were so big here. True he was used to living on a large acreage of farm but there was something about rock faces that inspired awe.

Was not that awesome today SvakMine? Tsubareth walked along beside her down the hallway towards their barracks. It was amazing to see the Weyr from up high!

For you maybe. I had to review how to stitch you up when you go to high and fall. She replied. Despite this it had actually gone over fairly easy as far as reviews went. She had apparently picked up something when her mother tried to pound Healer knowledge into her head.

Do not be to discouraged Mine. Soon after a few more sevendays we will be able to fly together.

Svak nodded in agreement and they continued down the hall enjoying each others company in silence. Ayen appeared chittering excitedly, having found yet another sea shell. The little Gold flitter perched on Tsubareth's head showing her prize off proudly. Seeing someone else down the hall she streaked off toward the stranger going right up to him and perched on his shoulder, the concept of personal space completely lost on her. Everyone loved the colorful-things-from-the-sea didn't they?

Svak mentally groaned and stepped closer to Tsubareth as if she and the 17 foot long Midnight dragon could just disappear into the shadows in the hall like they were so good at doing in the night.

A chick that hides in the nest is a chick that never feels the wind. Tsubareth said cryptically, as per usual.

You and your riddles. What is that even supposed to mean anyways? Svak looked at the newcomer and with a dejected sigh realized Ayen would not be leaving him alone anytime soon. Oh well Tsubareth was right, you did have to learn how to interact with people eventually in life. Might as well be now.

[Ghost of Fire (Fëanáro)]

K’tar had been hanging out in the Bowl, taking a nap. He had just finished with combat practice, and Viarth had been doing some flying and then consumed a massive meal, so what they looked rather like was a massive Purple lump with a smaller, steel-grey clad lump resting beside it. The sun was starting to get to K’tar though, so the steel-grey clad lump was shifting, trying to use the dragon, now at nearly eleven months old and nearly 28 feet from shoulder to rump Viarth was hardly small enough to be called a dragonet and was even outgrowing the title of weyrling except in bulk, for a source of shade. Viarth though, was not being obliging, being too tired to extend a wing so his rider could cool off, so K’tar rolled over and pushed himself upright, intending to go seek shade elsewhere. More specifically, inside.

Viarth opened one eye to watch his rider enter the Weyr, but other than that remained where he was, basking in the sunlight. A couple seconds later, and the Purple lump was once more a true lump, fast asleep in the sun.

K’tar entered the Weyr proper and started making for the kitchen, intent on acquiring food, for, after the nature of young creatures, he had, upon removing himself from the discomfort of being too hot and having rested enough that he was no longer tired, discovered himself to be ravenously hungry.

Having secured himself several meatrolls, K’tar was on his way back out when he saw two people, a Midnight dragon, and a Gold firelizard in one of the halls. The young brown-haired man, whom K’tar was fairly sure he didn’t know, was closest, and the dragon was definitely Midnight Tsubareth standing next to Svak.

That must be Svak’s Gold firelizard, Ayen I think, then, K’tar mused, idly devouring a meatroll. He wouldn’t mind saying hello, in fact, he knew he was probably going to be doing so shortly, but for the moment his stomach was in command, and it said ‘food’.

Jaryt began to head across the caverns towards the smell of food and came up short. The gold flash that settled upon his shoulder drawing his attention. He'd seen flitters before but none of them had gotten this close. Was it characteristic of golds to be friendly, he wondered. A smile curved his mouth upwards as he lifted his hand slowly. No need to spook it. “Well hello there, sweet. What' ve you got? A shell? May I?” He asked, shifting his hand a little closer. At any moment she could leave and he'd be a little sad but this place was probably full of them. Not that all of them were going to come right up to him and perch his shoulder.

Speaking of his shoulder as he gently stroked his fingers along her scales he glanced down at her talons perched onto his vest. Good thing he'd worn leather, for sure. P'ltey's voice echoed in his head, reminding to always go with the scales and not against them. Though he hadn't realized it Jaryt remembered everything P'ltey had told him about Rumikrith. Even from the first ride they'd taken Jaryt had been putting information away as if it would someday be important. Or maybe it had been wishful thinking. He didn't know.

Down the corridor the way the flitter had come he caught sight of a female walking beside her dragon. The midnight was gorgeous but the smile slid off his face at the sight of the girl, closing his expression down into one of aloof detachment. They were coming closer and he slid to the side of the hallway to give them room to pass though his suspicion was that the flitter on his shoulder belonged to her. “She's very friendly. What's her name?”

She had paused a little longer composing something in her mind to say when she approached the newcomer. He seemed nice enough showing interest in Ayen and her Sea Shell. When he asked to see it the little Gold trilled a series of happy notes. No one but Hers and the-dark-one ever showed an interest in her shells so Ayen decided she really liked this human and would have to show him her best shells when she could. She inspected his hand as he slowly brought it up to her then he asked to see the colorful-things-from-the-sea! This made her truly happy and she nuzzled his hand before gently placing the shell in it chirping at him to tell her what he thought of it.

Svak had come up with something to say finally even if it was just a simple greeting most people were able to say to others without the amount of stress she was going through. Meeting new people was just something she was not able to do. Unless she was thrust into a situation where there wasn't any real time to think about anything she did much better, or when meeting a new person while with someone she already knew. She approached him, Tsubareths comforting presence beside her. She took a deep breath prepared to successfully have a conversation with a complete stranger when he noticed her and seemed to change completely. He no longer looked friendly but aloof and like he definitely did not want to talk to her. He even moved closer to the wall as if he were ushering them on faster.

"Ayen, her name is Ayen, after the gold star."

((OOC: Horribly sorry if Svak's personality suddenly changes she's being uterly horrid about how she wants to behave right now, one moment she wants to be happy and cheerfull the next like shes never talked to a human being before. Arrgg! *frustrated* For everyones sanities sake I'll try to keep her like this for this thread xD))

“Ayen.” He repeated, hoping he could remember it. It was a star so he should be able to, right? His attention turned back to the shell and the flitter on his shoulder. He smiled at her. “A pretty name for a clever girl.” The shell was smooth. He ran his fingers over it for a moment before giving it back to Ayen. Without looking at Svak he spoke to her, wondering why he was being less than open. He wanted friends, didn't he?

It was the place, he reasoned. Jaryt had to get over it though. There was no room for an antisocial rider. Riders had to work together and he might need to work with this one in the future. “I'm Jaryt Evelir. Your companions are gorgeous. You're lucky.” At the last he turned to look at her. She was pretty and he fought to keep his eyebrows from lifting. The glance he'd given her earlier had not done her justice. See what antisocial behavior got you, his mind needled. “It's my first day here.”

Ayen chirped happily when she heard her name being said. Her's must be introducing her to the one-who-likes-her-colorful-things-from-the-sea. She watched him as he inspected her shell feeling the texture and inspecting it. He handed it back to her and she held it in her front paws wrapping her tail around his shoulder for more stability.

A small smile crept on Svak's lips as she watched Ayen showing off her shell. She loved her sea shells and loved it more to show them all off. Svak liked to look through them, the little Gold sure did know how to find the really nice looking ones. His comment made her pause and think for a second, slightly derailed not expecting that comment. She had been here only about 9 months and so much had indeed changed. "Yes." She said softly thinking oh how different her life was now that she had Impressed Tsubareth. "Yes I am very lucky."

She looked up from Ayen when he said it was his first day. "I remember when I got here. I was horribly lost, I still don't even know where I managed to go but it wasn't the candidate barracks that's for sure."

“They dropped me off here so I didn't have to worry about getting lost trying to find it. Now it's just a matter of finding...everything else.” A smile curved his face up transforming the aloof expression into something open. It made him seem less hawk-like in his features and more appealing. His posture changed as well, turning towards her instead of to the side.

“From the food smell I think the kitchen is that way?” He gestured with his thumb towards the kitchen, asking her for confirmation. Seeing the dragon next to her made him wish the hatching was tomorrow. To stand on the sands and perhaps Impress? Jaryt wanted it so bad he could taste it. To one day fly? What greater feeling could there be?

She tentatively smiled back in response to his as he talked about being dropped off, he seemed suddenly much friendlier and she gained confidence in speaking with him. "Yes!" She said enthusiastically answering his question, food was a favorite topic of hers being constantly hungry all the time. "First place one must see is the kitchens. You never know when hunger will strike and it's best to know the quickest way there." She finally broke out in a full smile feeling that she was getting this conversation thing down pretty good.

See mine? What did I say, it's not very hard at all now is it?
