Name: Jerston
Pronunciation: Jer-ston
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Turnday: 3055.11.11
Rank: Candidate/Journeyman Healer
Weyr: RMW
Family:
Master Healer Cobinly - Adoptive Father
Appearence:
Jerston stands to a height of 5'3 when he straightens completely. He has a thin frame that makes him look fragile rather than showing the strength he actually possesses. Jerston tends to wear clothes that fit close against his body to keep them from getting in his way as he's working. His eyes are a medium brown that compliments his blond hair. His hair is kept short.
Since the loss of his foot, Jerston has used a false one carved of wood. This foot was made to help him move around rather than having him reliant on a crutch or another's help. The wood that gaps the space between the stump where his foot once was and the floor is carved into the shape of a normal foot bearing a sandle. The remainder of the wood was carved and smoothed to fit around the back of his calf and straps buckled tightly around the open front to keep it from sliding. The stump itself settles into a bowl carved to fit it and padded with soft leather. While this greatly improved his mobility, Jerston has walked with a bit of a limp since the accident. Occasionally his balance will be off, but mostly he has adjusted to walking and even running with the false foot.
Personality:
Jerston is pretty out going. He's determined to be useful regardless of the loss of his foot. While most people consider his handicap a weakness, he considers it a strength. He works harder than any normal person to make up for the lack of confidence people have in him. In fact, he goes above and beyond that assigned to him. Give him kitchen chores and he will finish those and then go to work a shift in the infirmary and then find a drudge to spend the remainder of the day helping take their load of the work.
All the while he works he hopes to prove to all those that whisper behind his back or openly give him the scornful looks that he is not handicapped at all. He is not just some cripple that will never be more than a healer's journeyman. He can be more, but he isn't just proving it to them, he is proving it to himself as well.
Jerston definitely has the healers touch. He is a gentle soul that genuinely cares about his patients. He leaves one with the impression that they are in more than capable hands. However, there is more than gentleness to him. He didn't advance in rank just by being a gentle push over. When it is called for, Jerston can take on a commanding role. For example, when an apprentice is taking their time or in a situation where haste is called for over the gentle hand.
History: Jerston was raised by his father, a blue rider. His mother didn't want to bear him, but his father, while not telling her she couldn't abort, made it clear that he wished she wouldn't. From the time Jerston was four His father took him on searches and did other things that fathers generally did with their sons.
One such activity was fishing. Around the age of seven Jerston’s father took him to the fishing hold he’d grown up in and the two sailed on the last fishing boat to leave the shore for morning. While they were out a storm blew up unexpectedly, giving them no time to take the boat back into harbor. Being seven and curious, Jerston didn’t listen to his father when was told to go below deck. It was both fortunate and unfortunate that he didn’t.
If he had, he would have lost his life. Because he didn’t, he lost his foot and his father. You see the storm tossed the vessel about on the sea like a toy. Jerston ended up being tossed into the nets and tangled beyond help in such conditions. Had the seas been calm his father may have been able to cut him free, but as it were, his father never reached him.
As he rushed towards his son the mast was snapped by the force of the wind in the sail they’d been trying to lower. As it was blown away it took the bluerider with it. Jerston remembers little from the time Jerith passed between and the time he washed onto shore, clinging to a waterlogged board the next morning. The nets still dragged his foot towards the depths and it was a wonder he’d stayed on the board, but it was also obvious the boat had been destroyed, smashed against rocks or a reef. Others were found barely alive in the calm waters that followed.. Some bodies were found. His father’s was not among them. If only they had Jerith fly with the boat instead of sunning himself on the shore…
The healer in the small hold had no choice but to remove the foot. In an attempt to console the child after such tragic loss, one of the younger boys brought him an egg from a wild firelizard clutch that he’d found. Of course, while he loved the electric blue that hatched from the egg, it could never replace his father or Jerith.Nor could the puppy that crawled onto his cot while he was sleeping one night and refused to leave his side since.
Sympathetic, the healer took Jerston under his wing while he recovered and treated him as a son. He carved a false foot for lad to try to compensate for the lost limb. While it would never be as good as the real thing, Jerston adapted to it over time and as he continued to grow the limb would need to be re-carved to fit him properly. After Jerston had well adjusted to the false foot, around the age of 10, he was taken to Healer Hall as an apprentice and had just walked the tables to become a Journeyman Healer. He was sent to Rainbow Mists Weyr for his first assignment, being placed under the WeyrHealer there. He believed it to be the Halls way of getting him out of their hair. It was a few days after he arrived that a rider insisted he stand as a candidate... They said their dragon was sure he was perfect for it.
Pets:
Name: Spark
Animal/Color: Blue Firelizard
Appearance:
Spark is an electric blue in color, with varying shades of lighter blue throughout his hide. His wing sails are slightly darker than the rest of his body.
Personality: Spark is well trained and intelligent for a firelizard. He knows just how to land to keep from throwing Jerston off balance. He follows commands without a second thought, as long as they are from his bonded or confirmed by his bonded. The downfall; he doesn't like to leave his Jerston's side for longer than absolutely necessary so he wouldn't make a good messenger outside of the Weyr, really.
Name:Shara
Animal/Color: Golden Canine
Appearance: Shara is light golden color, almost more blond really, with bits of white breaking in here and there on her muzzle, stomach and tail. The as copperish-red sheen to her coat. (think almost golden-retriever, for terrain point of reference.)
Personality: Shara is Jerston's constant companion unless ordered otherwise, and even then it's with reluctance. As a pup she claimed him as hers and refused to be taken from his side. She acts as his balance when he stumbles, moving in to pull him back to center if she can or cushion his fall if she can't. She is also very protective. If he is in a position where he can't defend himself, Shara will be sure no one can get close enough to touch him. No one. However, if he's fine, then she's perfectly friendly and approachable. Feel free to pet, play and otherwise adore. She is quite the attention hog.
Name: Swak (Means Frail in Dutch, though to him it's a lost language)
Animal/Color: Sunset Firelizard [F]
Appearance:
Personality: This little beauty started her life out sickly and weak, unable to move even enough to choose a bonded without the encouragement of her purple sister. She will always be frail and weak, with even short flights sapping her energy. However, her personality more than makes up for it. Swak is strong willed and very determined to live life to the fullest. She's also very sweet and loving and she enjoys watching the the sunset, encouraging her bonded to sit outside and watch it with her.
Name: Værge
Animal/Color: Purple Firelizard [F]
Appearance:
Personality:
Værge means Guardian in Danish, though to J'ston it is a dead language. It describes this firelizard perfectly. She came out of her shell to immediately stand guard over her sister and help her to find what she needed to survive. As well as being a guardian, Værge is very caring. She's a hit with patients, always giving encouraging noises and helping in anyway she can to make their lives better while under her bonded's care. Being a guardian type, though, Værge is protect of her bonded and the other firelizards in her fair. Don't let her get the idea you intend any of them harm.
Adoption? Um, No. Not unless it is vital for a plot, and then only until the plot is finished. Otherwise.. No.
Sivith
,
Name: Sih-vith
Hex color: 8c4727
Adult size: 30 feet
Age: 6 Months
About: His hide is a little darker than the average Brown. Sivith is extremely aware and hypersensitive. It's likely you'll find he's allergic to something. On top of that he's very sensitive to touch and knows exactly how he feels physically all the time. It makes back rubs better and itches worse. Expect him to complain fervently until his growing hide stops itching. Due to his sensitivities, Sivith is likely to be one of the least lazy Browns. Faranth knows if he'll ever find a comfortable spot. He is extremely grateful for all the good things in his life and acts of kindness directed toward himself. He can keep track of several things at once in his head, but with all that thinking going on don't expect to be able to sneak up on this Brown.
