It was just after the afternoon shift, and the sun was still high in the sky. There was a cool breeze coming up over the ocean onto the beach, which was where Cr'wean was headed. The man was stomping to the beach, looking even more awkward trying when he hit sand. At the moment he was fuming, so he didn't quite care. Once he hit sand proper he started pacing.
"Stupid sharding, halfwit, getting his leg broke by a stupid sharding stunt." Cr'wean was venting his frustration of how stupid people could be. Patching people up? That he could do. However when they got hurt being stupid he fumed. He gave the man a tongue lashing but he hadn't seemed to care! All the irresponsible people in the world he could live with as long as they didn't show the same feeling toward their health and well being. It have him more work and was a pain to deal with. Just beyond the reach of the sand Kiyosh was sitting and watching her rider blow off steam. Best leave him for a bit. He was rather snappy at this point in time. After a while, Cr'wean's pacing slowed and Kiyosh got a sentence in.
Stand still or something. You're easier to track that way.
Cr'wean turned back to the lifewing, looking grumpy. Still he sighed and then flopped down onto the sand, very unceremoniously. He frowned at the ocean and seethed quietly. At least the ocean was soothing. He'd feel better after a while of looking at the ocean.
Unlike the grumpy Lifewing Rider, there was a certain Carefree Harper turned Candidate who danced along the edge of waves, her feet wet and sand covered as she danced with her annoyance of a flitter, by name Fancy and by color, a green. "Come on Fancy! You can sing better than that! Let's try again!" She twirled laughing and started to sing a happy Harper's song of health, wealth, prosperity... and dragons flying over the Hold as a shield of protection. Her voice rose and fell, but it was the dancing she did, that she practiced that really had her heart... and her firelizard seemed to be dancing with her for once... following her movements which were graceful and expressive in their own way.
She gave a hiss as she twisted her ankle and paused, stretching it, her toe pointed before she put her foot on the ground and closed her eyes in pain, a frown marring her face as she stepped into the dance again. It hurt, but it would get better. It was just a twisted ankle. Certainly she probably should have rested and she knew this... but she was far too stubborn and she had not perfected this dance yet. She would take care of it later. After she had come a step closer to perfection.
"Come on Fancy... let's go again." She grinned and gave the green a treat before starting to sing again and step into the dance as best she could... wincing slightly as she put weight on it the first few times... but soon, though it still hurt rather fiercely, she did not wince or allow it to disrupt what she was doing. IF she did, then what kind of Harper was she trained to be? Certailny not the kind her mother had taught her to be.
After a time, Cr'wean stopped his internal rant regarding the day's shift. As a result, he grew more aware of his surroundings. Kiyosh was watching him from behind, patient as always. He was happy about that, he supposed. He loved his Lifewing partner, even if they didn't always agree. His eyes scanned the waterline, pausing on a woman dancing on the shore. There was a Green flitter with her, and the dancer seemed obvious to what was going on around her. He watched for a little bit, getting a might bit distracted from his former rage. He could catch bits of music, from her singing, but wasn't particularly close to her. It seemed like a good performance from what he saw.
As he watched, he saw her foot move in a wrong way, and she stopped, looking like she was in pain. Cr'wean got up at that, gauging the action. Sprain, if he didn't miss his guess. Looked like a painful one. He looked down at his person, finding he wasn't carrying anything. So, without a second thought, his Healer nature got the better of him and he bolted back to the Weyr for some wraps. Kiyosh watched him run for it, then turned her attention back to the dancer. She apparently was reassuring her firelizard with a treat. A moment later she resumed practice. Hmm, that wasn't good. The Lifewing got up and moved closer to the dancer, observing her quietly. The movements were obviously causing her pain, which meant that it wasn't a light thing. Kiyosh ruffled her feathers and turned her head around to see where her rider was on progress. She looked relatively surprised when he was already running back toward her with wraps and pins in hand. He stopped at Kiyosh, catching his breath a moment. Still, when he looked up his face contorted into a frown.
Cut it out. Just get on with it. Cr'wean looked up at the Lifewing with a frown, and she stared right back at him. Still, he sighed and walked over to the dancer, getting finally close enough to hear her singing. Still, he didn't look that happy. Once he got up close he cleared his throat and spoke, trying to keep a neutral voice.
"Don't you think you should fix that ankle now?" He held up a wrap as he spoke, indicating he was quite familiar with how the worked. Hopefully so did she.
Kaimana's movements were slow and careful, but stopped as someone approached. She watched him for a moment then smiled. "Yes, I know I should. I shouldn't be dancing on it either... but the performance is so soon... and it's still not perfect..." She frowned deeply and crossed her arms over her chest before sinking down so that he could treat her ankle. Fancy cheaped at him and showed pictures to the man of what she believed was a broken leg with an inquiring cheep. She watned to know if maybe... maybe hers had hurt herself worse than she thought.
She looked up at him quietly and waited, looking only slightly distant and thoughtful. She understood his worry...
Cr'wean's mood lightened a little when she did respond, since she wasn't trying to do more then justify her actions. Whatever, as long as she let him patch her up. Still, he got the things he brought ready and bent down to wrap the ankle.
"Well I'm hear to make sure you are capable of perfecting it." He paused for a moment when the firelizard came close, and pausing for a moment at the images he was given. It certainly didn't seem to be a break but he decided to check. "Hang on a moment, just going to check something." He reached for the ankle, and paused. "This might hurt." Still, he just felt the ankle, quickly but efficiently. "Nothing bad."
Having checked he grabbed one of the pins he had brought and put it in his mouth, so he had both hands free. He then wrapped her ankle up, seeming to be rather well practiced at that. It was nice and tight so he kept it that way but using the pin to secure it. He checked it for any loose wrapping then got up.
"There, that should hold it. Try it for feel." He meant walking on it, but didn't quite realize she might take it as something else.
"You're a Lifewing Rider, aren't you?" She asked him with a small smile as she looked at him. "Alright.." She braced herself for the pain, but couldn't help the slight wince as he applied pressure on the ankle. She blinked and looked at him, smiling slightly. "Thank you."
She stood slowly when he told her to try it out and took a turn, wincing as she did so and took a slight gliding step, finding the wrapping cumbersome and unyielding... but.. her ankle did feel somewhat better... "Well.. I tihnk practicing will have to wait..." She sighed and her shoulders slumped a little bit as she sat back down slowly and giving him another smile. "Won't you join me for awhile...? What is your name?" Fancy cheeped inquisitively and fluttered her wings rather excitedly.
She reached out a hand to him as if to shake it. "My name is Kaimana, by the way. Thank you again."
She grinned at him and watched his face for a moment, trying to read him.
Cr'wean nodded simply to her first question, before thinking better of it and motioning behind him. Kiyosh was still sitting back where she wouldn't be sitting in the sand. She was not a Lifewing whose feathers worked well to defend against sand and water. So she preferred to save herself the trouble of preening for a few hours to get all the sand out, whenever possible. "That's Kiyosh." The since sentence seemed to explain what he needed it to, that he was a Lifewing rider, and the was his Lifewing partner.
He watched, with a bit of cringing, her attempts at dance steps with the wrap on. Gah, it was nails on a chalkboard sort of thing. Fortunately she came to the conclusion she wasn't going to be doing anymore practice, and she relaxed somewhat. However her next words shocked him, so that he was staring at her with a blank look for a good ten seconds before he could respond. She wanted someone to talk to? Him? Huh? After his brain processed the request he verbalized a huff and flopped down on the sand beside her.
"I'm Cr'wean. Just remember to keep an eye on the ankle." He looked at her hand a moment and quickly shook it, before looking out at the ocean. Gah, he didn't do small talk. Not really. What was he supposed to do now? Eh, well she got hurt dancing, maybe talk about that? Sure, go that direction. Well, he didn't know anything about that. Oh, that's right she had been singing too...
"That song, what was it? I mean the one you were singing along with your dance." Yeah, that sounded right. Good, just had to converse. That wouldn't be hard...right?
Kai smiled to Kiyosh and bowed her head slightly in greeting and respect. "It is good to meet you, Kiyosh." She smiled warmly and turned her attention back to Cr'wean. Hmm... he was rather handsome.. if he did seem to be a little bit... grumpy around the edges.
Kaimana looked at him and just smiled as he stared at her. "What?" she asked softly before he finally gave his name. "It's good to meet you Cr'wean." She hoped he wasn't going to be scared off or anything. She would like to have him stick around a bit longer. "I will. It's a good thing I won't be seeing my mother any time soon - she'd have me back up and practicing already." She shook her head and grinned. She blinked. He really was awkward, wasn't he. All the more of a challenge! She held onto his hand slightly when he pulled away and then let go. This was either going to be fun... or horrible. one or the other.
Se smiled. So he had heard her. "It's a song of remembrance for days past. Something that Master Harper Gallin wrote. It talks about the story of the Weyr Wars and the eventual end of what was Dark Mists Weyr. He always says that our history is our most important tool because if you don't know your history, you will repeat it - without fail."
She looked him over. "So... Cr'wean, were you trained as a healer before you Linked with Kiyosh?" she asked, only knowing the proper terminology because he was not the first LifeWing Rider she had met. In fact, she ahd had a friend who had Impressed to a Lifewing... but he was out of her life now...
Kiyosh tilted her head and bowed it down to accept the greeting from Kaimana. The Lifewing would continue to watch, but not actively participate in conversation. It would be interesting, she supposed, to see how Cr'wean proceeded from here.
Cr'wean was aware of the slightly longer lapse of time that she held onto the handshake for, but he had no way of determining what that meant, if anything. As such, he merely assumed it was accidental. His head didn't move as he looked as her sidelong while she spoke about her mother getting her to practice more. Cr'wean, being who he was, was not going to be quiet about what he thought.
"Well that's stupid. She should realize pushing you too hard could wreck your ability to dance permanently." Cr'wean's eyes had flipped back to the ocean as he spoke bluntly. Yeah, he was very much about health. Still he listened to her talk about the song, which sounded like good sense. He liked a good piece of music, he's probably go crazy being a Lifewing rider if he didn't. So he nodded appreciatively as she spoke of it. He was still mostly watching the ocean though. That happened a lot with him.
"Yes. I was still an apprentice but, yeah, trained to eventually be one." He paused a moment, not quite sure what to say beyond that, before giving a huff and continuing. "I was kinda worried about coming here to stand for a Lifewing clutch but at least now I have someone who can put up with me." behind them Kiyosh was amused. It was hard to tell, she was a very silent Lifewing when she wasn't working, and Lifewings didn't have good facial expressions. However she opened and shut her beak twice, making a 'click click' which could be equated to a mischievous tsk tsk from a human. Cr'wean knew she was amused though, since he knew here well.
He seemed to be quite ignorant of the way a female's mind worked. that would make this all the more fun. Or she hoped anyways. A man who didn't know how a female's mind worked often had not had too many dealings with them in the past. Or if they had were, were simply ignorant or quite possibly dense. Dense was always a possibility, without fail. She found a lot of men to be rather dense when it came to the way women thought. Hmm... Well.. maybe she would have to educate this handsome lifewing rider. As well as maybe teach him a little bit about manners.
"Well, yes... it is, I suppose. But it is how I was raised. It is my job to, above all else, to be perfect. It wouldn't be the first time I had had to practice on an injured ankle. Growing up, when she would be teaching me, She would make me all the time, despite my protests. Perhaps at is why I am more prone to injuring my ankles now... I'm certain one of these days an injury is going to result in a fracture. She looked at him with a soft smile. "It's important to learn about one's history."
She was thinking, though. In fact, she was quite lost in thought as her eyes looked out towards the ocean as well, remembering thsoe days as a young girl when ehr mother had worked her so hard as to force her to work on an injured ankle telling her that "pain was only part of the equation to perfection. It was to be expected and worked through. If you didn't then you were week and would never reach perfection." She had always thought such a thing was ridiculous. Not that she had ever been able to fight her mother... she had just been a child. But such things had often been the cause of strife between her mother and father in the past. With good cause. She sighed and frowned as she came out of the memory... finally realizing he had answered and trying to recall that answer.
"Well... you seem to be a good one, Cr'wean." She smiled and looked at him rather cheerily. She was glad she heard him talking about the next bit here. She grinned. "I'm sure if you give someoen a chance, you 'll find another person who can put up with you Cr'wean... Why were you worried about coming to stand for a clutch?"
She wondered about his lifewing. She seemed to be very interesting, if very quiet. She leaned back on her hands, her legs stretched out in front of her. She brushed a stray piece of hair back behind her ear and looked off into the distance while she waited for his answer. As far as she could tell, other than his somewhat grumpy around the edges nature, he really wasn't a bad guy... In fact he was a pretty good guy. Whether he realized it or not, however, that was another question all together. She wondered to herself if he had any really good friends. There had to be a few... and if not, well... ti would be her mission to be the first one and try to get him a few more. There was no way that someone could be happy or content if they were entirely alone. Loneliness was not a good thing for anyone to feel. She knew that only too well. She rather disliked thinking about it... the times she had felt alone... which were not so few as some would think. She hated being aloen or ignored. She deserved to have some attention and to feel the love others had to offer, or so she felt.
Cr'wean listened to her words but was not looking happy about it. It was not that he disliked her talking to him, rather it was that she was describing the exact sort of person he hated. That was perhaps not the right word, it took a lot to make him genuinely hate someone. It would be more accurate to say, he hated what that sort of person did to others. Like he had told her, he had been trained by a Healer, and therefore, that particular situation came up somewhat regularly. He had a very special sort of rant ready for people who injured themselves by making the same mistake twice, but even more so he had an extra special rant for those who proceeded to press others into multiple injuries. However, Kaimana was neither, well quite yet. Therefore, he did not direct a rant at her.
"I'll keep that in mind for treating you in the future. At least you can rest easy if you do break something. I'm good at splints and Kiyosh is good with humans." He stated it plainly, not like bragging, just stating. As if you could ever brag about healing skills. As much as Lifewing riders worked with their Lifewings, they completely showed them up when it came to healing abilities. Sure, mundane skills and medicine was something that didn't cost a rider energy, but really there wasn't anything to compare it to. It was in a different league.
"I manage." The short sentence was about all he could say in response to the complement. He wasn't good at accepting praise. It just made him more nervous, which made him seem more grumpy. The cycle of grumpiness was strong in him.
A sigh escaped him and he proceeded to speak, though he sounded as though what he said could be taken as embarrassing. "I wasn't worried about the Clutch exactly, I was nervous about leaving my sister. She's too trusting. So it was mostly leaving her alone. It wasn't really alone, I guess, but it felt like it. Still, she badgered me into going for it." He very purposefully was staring at the ocean for the moment, not wanting to look at anyone. Of course that was the moment Kiyosh decided to jump in. She just couldn't resist.
And now that the lovely little dear is here, Cr'wean is just pleased as punch. Honestly I love her to death and Cr'wean is just so cute when he's taking care of her. Kiyosh didn't bother to strictly speak to Kaimana, so Cr'wean's face went bright read and he got up quickly.
"Well it was nice meeting you see you around."
Sit down. Cr'wean spun to face the Lifewing and started yelling, forgetting that his half of the conversation wasn't going to be private.
"No! I'm not gonna sit here while you go sappy on me!"
I always call humans cute. You should be used to it.
"Never me!"
Cr'wean, you should know you are the most adorable human I have ever met, and it's probably why I picked you. Cr'wean's face got shocked and baffled, as he stared at the Lifewing. Jaw off the ground mister. You're adorable, so continue to talk to the adorable human and deal with it. Kiyosh was getting that stubborn as a brick wall feeling to her, something that Cr'wean wasn't fond of. As far as it went, he rather wanted to bolt. He was embarrassed enough when he couldn't figure out what to say, he hardly needed 'Mother Kiyosh' to get out his embarrassing baby photos. So he flopped down again and started to grumble under his breath about a certain feathery creature and his desire for her to go bald.
