Name: Naylin Traderborn
Pronunciation: Nay-linn
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Turnday: 06.11 turn 3054
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Candidate
Family: Lilin - Mother
Yarik - Father
Friends: None of note
Pets: Rainbow firelizard Marker
Appearance: Standing at five foot four Naylin isn’t incredibly short, but she isn’t going to be winning any height contests either. Although she isn’t too short she is very slender, helping give her a overall appearance of being small. That is not to say that she does not have any muscle. No, it’s there, just not glaringly obvious. When it comes to physical assets her speed greatly outweighs and brute strength she could possibly boast. It makes sense, what with her having spent a great deal of time as a runner. It looks like a good deal of her body is legs, although that is not to say that her arms are not very long as well.
Her skin is naturally lighter and burns easily. Having spent so much time out in the sun as a child it is no wonder that she has a splattering of freckles across her face, arms, legs, and any place where her skin was exposed to the sun for a long period of time really. She has a long face with a small nose and thin, pink lips. Her eyes are almond shaped and a little narrow, giving a bit of a squinting effect. They are light brown in color. Above them her eyelashes are light red, thin, and straight. Her eyebrows follow suit, thin and light red in color. Perhaps the most noticeable thing about her is her hair. Bright red in color and long, going down just past her shoulders. Although it is normally not tangled it is naturally rather thin.
Personality: It would be no lie to say that Naylin is a very greedy person. All too often she sees something she wants, and if she wants it she absolutely must get it. Sure she will try going about the honest way to get it at first, although this will almost always be half-hearted. Her preferred way of getting what she wants is by much more nefarious means. Stealing, tricking people, blackmailing, it’s all a part of her everyday life. Gambling is a big part of her as well, although most of the time it is just for fun. Sure it started as a way to gain marks at first but as she has discovered stealing it has become more and more of a hobby.
Naylin is not the most honest person around. She will lie, twist the truth, and do her best to trick people if it will fit her needs. But there is one exception to this. If you can talk her into making a deal with you she will almost always keep her end of the bargain. Well, if the other people keeps theirs anyway. It is very rarely that she truly thinks of the good and welfare of others. She is a survivalist after all, and in order to survive you need to think about yourself above all else.
Although it might not immediately see it Naylin does value friendship. She will keep you around while you are useful and, if she comes to like you, after that, although she will try her best to deny it. One of the things she wants most but cannot get by stealing is to be liked, loved, adored. And she will try with every fiber of her being to get that, although it does not always work out the way she likes.
When it comes to politics she really couldn’t give a wherry’s hind end. Gold dragons, blue dragons, citrine dragons, black dragons, sharding giant rainbow dragons. It’s all the same to her. She absolutely despises when people try to drag her into things and care about the going-ons of the Weyr. All she wants to worry about is herself, can’t everyone just get that through their heads?
History: One day a trader girl named Lilin, met a man from another caravan and was swept off her feet. She and Yarik had one night together, one wonderful night.
Lilin didn’t see it coming when Yarik left her, she had thought it was love. But none the less he left her the next morning. Nine months later Naylin was born. She was a easy enough child for the first eight turns of her life, finding joy in the little things in life and making her own games. But at eight turns old things began to change, she began to get troublesome. She wanted things, things that the caravan couldn’t provide for her. The things were constantly changing, whatever caught her eye at the moment, but one thing never changed. She wanted them. And at fourteen turns old she figured out how to get them. She began to gamble and steal, trick anyone she could find, anything to get money or that object that caught her eye. Maybe it wasn’t even an object, maybe it was a favor. Either way, she found a way to get whatever she wanted.
It worked wonderfully until she was seventeen turns old. That was when she was caught raiding the pantry she had snuck into at a hold they were near, Cliffside Seahold. At first the holders were enraged, there was talk of executing her. But before it could happen someone came up with an idea, make her work off her debt. That was how Naylin ended up working as a messenger for four turns. She made friends around the hold and, once she was sure she wasn’t being watched as closely, got up to some of her old tricks. After a while everything seemed normal again, although there was one big difference. She had a home, an actual, stable, non-moving home.
Things changed once again after she turned twenty one turns old. A searchdragon arrived at Cliffside hold and signaled Naylin out to stand. At first she was reluctant. Why travel when she had such a good thing going on right where she was? But soon enough an idea occurred to her. A Weyr held new opportunities, new scams, new things to gain and more fun to be had. Sure a dragon would probably hold her down but what were the chances that she would actually impress? So she agreed to stand, saying that it was her duty to the Weyr when really she was just thinking of what she had to gain.
