Name: Ragnar Bendenborn
Pronunciation: Rag - nar
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Turnday: 1.28 of turn 3057
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Family: Galna - Mother
Rarolk - Father
Garna - Sister
Friends: None of note
Pets: Purple-gray flit Tekki
Appearance: Ragnar's skin is pale in color. Naturally pale, not pale thanks to an ailment of any sorts. Of course that doesn't mean that it naturally stayed pale. If he had spent much time outside it would have burned at first but started to tan over time. But alas, a great portion of his life has been spent inside and he so does not have much in the way of color on him. His build in long and lanky, with many awkward and gangly limbs. He stands at 6'5". Unfortunately his long legs do not grant him any extra speed, as a matter of fact he is rather klutzy. Thanks to all of the caution he has taken through his life there are not many scars on him other that the normal cuts and scrapes of childhood. His face is long, much like that of a runner. The only angles that really show and soft and a little unnoticeable. His eyes are a dark brown, as is his hair. Most of the time his hair is untameable and of decent length, though it does not come close to being able to be considered long.
Personality: Everyone has things that others might look down upon, things that they might even be embarrassed about. That thing for Ragnar is that he is entirely too dependent on his sister. But the thing is that he is not ashamed. He follows his sister in what appears to be pride. All his life he has viewed her as a leader, someone strong, someone to be looked at in awe. Someone to be feared. So he follows her without question, doing almost anything and everything that Garna might tell him to do. Along with this he acts like he is perfectly content, like he has everything he ever wanted and more being the perfect follower for his sister. But on the inside he has doubts. Maybe, just maybe, her ways are the wrong way. Maybe tradition is old and dead, something to be thrown to the wind. Maybe his life would be better if he acted on his own choices, not blindly doing whatever his sister commands. But so far he hasn't been able to bring himself to stand up to her. The truth is that he is scared, scared to what she might do to him, scared that he might lose the only person that has always been there for him.
But he there is more to him than just the perfect follower. He has his own likes and dislikes, his habits, his dreams. Ragnar likes to learn. Especially history, he can't help but find it incredibly interesting. That being said he is not very still or quiet. No matter how much he likes to learn new things he just can't bring himself to quietly study for hours on end. He just has too much energy for that. For every minute spent sitting down it seems he spends two out and about, doing everything he can to burn off energy. Maybe a little jog, just not anything too vigorous. Oh, or maybe a game! Ragnar loves games, mind games, word games, anything! Well, almost anything. No matter how hard he tries he can never quite manage to make himself enjoy physical activity. That's Garna's thing, not his.
History: How do you describe the history of someone that has spent most of their life living through others? For that is what Ragnar has done. Born to a guard and a beautiful hold woman he was the second born, his sister, Garna, having come a year earlier. As he grew up his life was simple, be a follower. Obey Garna, do what Garna says, take the blame for Garna's bad behavior. As children his sister was always a troublesome girl, finding her way to mess with whatever she could and having her dark idea of 'fun'. Although he did not take part in these actions with his older sister she would always tell him about them after the fact. Then came the bad part, the part that always seemed to happen. Whatever Garna had done would be discovered and he would end up taking the blame for her actions despite his near constant innocence.
By the time he reached ten turns it would seem that Ragnar had no opinions of his own, only those that his sister planted into his head. Whatever she said he would go along with, whatever her opinion was would be his as well. This of course did not make him the most popular person around. Born to a very traditional couple at Benden Hold his sister rapidly began to pick up on their ideals, thoughts that seemed to have jumped right out of the fifth pass. The lower ranking the color the more worthless the rider. Mutants were horrible. As it had been drilled into her head by her parents Garna always maintained that queens were meant to be ridden by women and women only, just as kings were to be ridden by only men. This soon turned to a belief that women should only ride female dragons and men only males, anything else would make someone a freak of nature. Although he was unsure of this Ragnar went along with it, not wanting to anger his sister. But despite all outward appearances he did have a personality of his own. He was always the cautious one, warning his sister about what could end up hurting her. Along with this he liked to make jokes, play around, and over all have fun. While he enjoyed knowledge he was never a real quiet type, instead preferring to have fun with friends, not that he really had many friends.
He was fifteen turns old and Garna was sixteen when she began getting into fights. He could never understand why, one minute she'd be fine and another she'd just snap. Although he was never able to figure out exactly why this was he couldn't help but notice that the boy she used to spend a lot of time with, Tralok, was no longer seen anywhere around her. Verbal fights turned to threats, which turned to destruction of property, which eventually became a physical fight in which she broke another girl's nose. That was when her parents decided to make a change, desperate to get away from the reputation their daughter was beginning to form. The entire family was moved to Cliffside Hold.
Yet despite the fresh start nothing seemed to change. Garna continued to argue and attempt to force her views upon others while Ragnar came to be known as her loyal crony. It seemed that they could never manage to find a friend, but that didn't matter, they had each other, or at least that was what Ragnar always told himself. But at times he had to wonder if his sister really cared about him beyond viewing him as a puppet.
At eighteen turns old a change came. A dragon from Rainbow Mists Weyr stopped at the hold and told the siblings that they could stand as candidates. Garna, tempted by the idea of riding on a mighty dragon, how powerful she would be, agreed for both of them.
