Physical Description:
What was once glistening, long golden hair has turned silvery white with age. Kaya keeps her hair down straight and simple. Her bangs are grown out to the same length as the rest of her hair, which falls to around her mid-back. Her eyes are a dark, deep, soft blue, with a bit of green that matches wonderfully with the other hue. Her eyes have thick, darker blue limble rings that she is rather fond of. Her frame is slightly taller than average at a nice 5' 8". The aging Weyrwoman is getting thinner and frailer but keeps a motherly feel to her. She has more than her fair share of smile lines and worry wrinkles. As much as she tries to look put together enough for the Weyr, it's clear that this long lived woman is in her twilight hours of life.
Personality:
For many Turns Kaya faithfully took on the roles of loving mother and faithful weyrmate. Along with this she also had to run the Weyr, which she did justly and fairly though perhaps with too much mercy. Kaya does her best to enjoy each part of life as it comes with its restful moments and challenges. She has a grown family - and three great grandchildren. She was determined to raise her children herself, no matter how unorthodox it might seem. Rainbow Mists Weyr is a place of difference and change; It seems to be what draws so many people. She always wished she had more time with her weyrmate, but T'ren was constantly busy with meetings and duties. When they retired at last they had several good Turns together before the BronzeRider and his dragon passed away. She does her fair share of work but at her current age there isn't much left for her to do. Kaya enjoys spending the rest of her days in the shade of trees outside.
History:
Kaya was only five Turns old when a violent sea storm took the lives of her parents. They were caught up in a sudden storm which wrecked the boat and sent everyone aboard into the raging sea. A Blue dragon who was extremely brave and extremely stupid risked his life to save those tossed from the wrecked ship. Only a pair of sailors made it out alive. Neither of them were her parents. Kaya, left home at the Hold, was taken to live with the only family friends her caretaker could locate. She made her home in the StarSmith Craft Hall, where she was taught math and science when they accepted her as an Apprentice. She had become a respected and advanced Apprentice by the age of fourteen. Her career in astronomy and the crafts was cut short when she was Searched. She made the move to Waterfall Valley Weyr, where she Impressed Kayleth from one of Tarneth's later clutches.
Sakura, the Senior Weyrwoman of Waterfall Valley Weyr, took Kaya under her wing. Though she was young the older woman had faith in her and dutifully taught her the ways of Weyrwomanship. Kaya had had teachers and mentors at the Hall, but never anything like a mother. She admired Sakura greatly and aspired to be as loving and open as she was.
In the first days of becoming a full fledged Rider, Kaya's Blue fire lizard Sliki chased in and won the Flight of Gold Zera. The Rider to whom the Gold belonged, T'by, was an acquaintance of hers. They watched the fire lizards soar off like loving parents instead of lovers themselves. T'by and Kaya would meet occasionally to chat, but as Kaya's upcoming role as Weyrwoman took more and more of her time, the BrownRider just never seemed to be about.
When Kaya was about eighteen and a half a BronzeRider would transfer to her Weyr and change her life. His name was T'ren, Zaurth's Rider, and he was the most wonderful man Kaya had ever met. There grew love between them that made itself more pronounced each day, and with the coming of Kayleth's maiden Flight the pair could only anticipate what might happen next. Zaurth was the victor in Kayleth's Flight, winning against several other suitors. The Weyr would grow and flourish under their leadership, despite the troubles to come.
In Kaya's earlier days of bring Weyrwoman she had somehow caught the heart of BrownRider M'ren. Though she knew she could never return the feelings he had for her, she felt sorry for the poor man, and thought of him as a close friend. They talked often, though if the topic of feelings came up it was always awkward. Kaya had witnessed M'ren's reImpression to the Brown Sirteth and felt responsible for their well being. She felt something in her heart for them, but it wasn't romantic; more akin to motherly love. Whenever M'ren was upset it would bother Kaya too. When rumors of M'ren's suicidal disappearance started to float around, Kaya couldn't believe he would really do so. Is he dead or just gone in time?
About five Turns into their time as weyrmates, Kaya gave birth to a beautiful girl to be named Tyra. In just under another five Turns, a boy, Koryn came into their family as well.
But, there was a point in time where Koryn's existence might never have come to be. Kaya fought in the Weyr War, riding Kayleth and sitting next to her close friend Nai. Kaya still doesn't quite know all the details as to how Chronos seemed to come back from the dead, but she is willing to let Nai keep it to herself, or wait patiently until the WhiteRider feels like talking.
After Nai leapt from Kayleth's back to be reunited with her White dragon the War took off into high speed. Kaya didn't see much of Nai for the next few days. Fighting was exhausting and Kaya knew her Weyr was up against horrible odds. No one had ever battled against a DeathWing before. However, it would not be a DeathWing that nearly took her life. Deikoeth, the Crimson dragon that Kaya believed to have started it all, took advantage of a distraction. While Kaya and Kayleth were staring at Akash, who had just killed the DeathWing King, Deikoeth was charging at them full speed from point-blank range. It was thanks to a noble Green, Getreth and her Rider Ellie, that Kaya's life was saved. The price was the loss of the heroic Greenrider pair. Kayleth soared away, back into the War as Zaurth battled with the Crimson.
Sadly, in the Weyr War, Sliki's Golden love, Zera, was lost, along with her Rider and his dragon. The Blue did not take it well, and was always found sulking on Kaya's shoulder for months. Several Turns passed, and the Blue slowly returned to his pleasant self. However, there are times where he falls back into a woeful state, if reminded of his lost love.
For a while after the War, Kaya tried to stay home and take care of her family (the Weyr included), though the idea of adventure and sneaking past danger never lost its full appeal to her. It would not be until five Turns after the Weyr War that her want for her younger days would catch up with her. Kaya went with the Northern Expedition to the old DeathWing Hive, lead by Nai. Kaya suffered a few scrapes and bruises, but that was nothing compared to the others who broke limbs and lost blood to the freezing, falling ice during the cave in. At the end of their perilous journey they found a LifeWing, Karresh, and a way out of the caves. A Hatching started but Kaya was called back to the Weyr before the first LifeWing chick was born.
It was Kaya's wish to live quietly for a while, but was a desire that would not be fulfilled until near her retirement days. Upon her return to Rainbow Mists from the expedition she found several thick letters on her desk. Inside were Nai's reports from across time. There were RogueWings causing trouble with herdbest handlers, reports of mysterious Riders taking away nasty kids from Holds all over the planet, and one bit of good news; the sickness that would randomly appear and then disappear had been identified and a cure was available. At least now they wouldn’t lose any more lives to that tragedy, but for any of the others Kaya can't be so sure.

Speaking to them directly is efficient and friendly, though honors those she likes by talking to them more. Though kind, Kayleth can be fierce in battle. No one wants to face the wrath of Kayleth. She cannot stand being disobeyed and requires common politeness from everyone. She hopes that everyone will chose to respect her but she will always demand obedience. Her heart is always willing to forgive. No matter how much her temper has decreased as she grows older, it’s still there, suppressed and ready to explode should the situation call for it.
