Appearance:
Nituna is a tall, willowy girl of about 5ft 10inches. Her frame is more stick like and thin than curvy as well, making her seem younger at times than she actually is. She has long legs, and a fairly average sized torso for her height. Even her hands and fingers are slim and nimble. Because of all this, some have described Nituna as being ethereal looking in appearance. She also has platinum blonde hair that has a hint of strawberry blonde in it. The cut is layered and long, coming past her shoulders to about mid-back. It's thin, almost veil-like in structure as well.
She has larger, sapphire blue eyes that are dark except for certain times in lighting. The one consistant thing she always wears is a red bow to help hold some of her hair back. Her clothes other than that used to be quite nice and full of dresses and skirts. However, since becoming a candidate she has worn more peasant tops and working pants. They often range on colors that are light for the tops, and darker for the pants. One of her favorites is as shown, a white top with blue bottoms.
Often, because of her up-bringing, Nituna can be found walking or sitting very poised. Every movement she makes is deliberate it seems, and she has learned to carry herself with grace. Meaning, that yes this holdbred girl can even walk around with a book on her head and keep it from falling off. She has a habit of chewing on her hair though when nervous, and it is incredibly easy to make her blush and see it considering her skin is an even milk and honey color.
Personality:
Shy, Self-deprecating, Calm in stressful situations, Nervous among large groups, scared of being too close to males, Loves rain and outdoors, hates being closed in/still for too long, Loves to sing, Hates for it to be heard
Nituna is a normal holdbred girl really. She's reserved and calm as girls of good blood should be. Her body and movements are always kept poised, her mind-set firm on right and wrongs. However, underneath that is in fact a rather shy, but intelligent girl. Nituna will be the first with the answer, and yet the last one to speak always. She is even soft-spoken in her voice and mannerisms. Besides this, Nituna is also quite self-deprecating. Shenever considers herself good enough, and only accepts praise when she is able to also bring herself down. This is so that she keeps an equal status of adequacy.
Despite this lack of self-image and confidence, Nituna is incredibly calm in stressful situations. Her rational mind-set, and intelligence helps her to quickly work through dilemmas and get past them. Because of this, one of her favorite pastimes is to solve puzzles and riddles. They seem to calm the girl as she works through things, quite and focused. Inside however is a girl itching to get out of her shell. She is just nervous to stand up for herself in front of a group.
She's even more nervous to be around males. Though men are her choice in preference, Nituna is terrified of being alone with them. She's heard too many tales from the drudges and mistresses at the hold to not be. Because of this, Nituna will avoid men generally unless with other people. When she is with others, especially if she has some drink in her, she is capable of flirting. It tends to be very sweet and coy though.
On top of this, Nituna's favorite thing is to hear the rain. The sound always proves to calm her even more than solving something. Because of this, she will often go to places that have creeks or small waterfalls, even the beach works. The sound of water simply soothes Nituna, probably because her mother used wash clothes and things while Nituna slept. An odd sort of ritual that became ingrained in her mind.
Nituna also loves open spaces and the outdoors. Consequently, she hates being confined or made to stay still. If she finds herself surrounded by people or something else for instance she gets very claustrophobic and will freak out. Moving Nituna to an open outdoor space is the best remedy for this, and it is one of the first things she let's new friends know about her. Also, Nituna has a gift that has gone quite wasted in many harpers' eyes. Her sweet second soprano voice is said to be delightful to many ears. However, Nituna is even more terrified of being heard singing than she is of being alone with men.
History:
Nituna's parents met at Fort Weyr as young children. Both were the weyrbrats of dragonriders. However, the mothers didn't want to do much with their children, and the father was undetermined for one, the other was deceased after the loss of his dragon. Still, they had each other as friends from a very young age. Growing up in Fort Weyr, they loved to watch the dragons and often dreamed of becoming riders. However, after turns of never getting one and being left standing, the two decided to leave weyr life behind and move to Ruatha Hold. It was a new chance at life, and a start of a family as Nituna was born, followed by her middle sister and the twins.
Often while she was a child, and even to today, Nituna felt as if she were the unfavored of the children. In truth, this was correct. As the oldest of the sisters, her parents expected her to help them raise her siblings and pick up work whenever she could. Her lessons were strict as well, teaching her to be even better mannered than the daughters of the Lord and Lady holder, or so that was the purpose. Nituna loved her family so she abide by their wishes. However, she also yearned to have the same freedom her younger sisters had.
When she was 8 turns old, her family started to discover talents among their daughters. Her youngest sisters were still young, but they caught onto rumors and "politics" within the Hold quickly. Her middle sister was a decent enough weaver, though she gained no formal training. As for Nituna, her parents constantly told her that she wasn't showing decent enough skills. They wanted more for her, and for her to show a better use so that the Lord Holder might marry one of his sons to the girl when she grew old enough. What she did have however, was a great singing voice, and a fear of being heard. Her parents, knowing this, decided that the gift was worthless and never tried to send her to a Hall.
At age ten her mother brought home firelizard eggs for Nituna's turnday. Of course, she got first pick, but there were eggs for everyone not just her. This both pleased, and hurt the girl, but naturally she didn't say anything. It was on hatching day that the largest egg, the one Nituna picked, hatched out a Silver Queen, and impressed not to her, but to her middle sister. In fact, none of the flits hatched for her. The smallest had been a dud, her mother had not been careful enough to figure it out till too late. No one went out to get another for the sad turnday girl.
When she was 15 turns old, her family went to a hatching at Fort Weyr to see the festivities. They thought it was good since the Lord Holder and his sons were also attending, the whole time though Nituna ignored the boys. Her parents were furious, but she didn't care. The dragons held her attention the entire time, and her heart reached out for them and the candidates. Nituna wanted to be there, not up in the stands watching and being forced into this life of hers. She wanted to try and see if a dragon saw her worthy of being a candidate.
However, when she finally got the courage to ask her parents, they decided that it was only a pipe dream of a naive girl. They told her that if she were to be a rider, she would have been searched already. After all, dragons came now and again to the hold. Nituna, for once, stuck up for herself saying her parents never allowed her near the search dragons. They sent her to bed without dinner that night and confined her from the rest of the Hold the next few days.
When she finally got out, a search dragon had appeared over the Hold. There were rumors of a Queen rising at Fort Weyr soon, and she knew that they were looking for candidates the desperately needed. Her parents wanted her to stay away again, and even told her that there was another plan for her. She finally was to marry one of the sons of the Lord Holder. Angry and defiant, Nituna ran out to the search dragon and begged to be taken away....only to find that they were there for her.
It was a happy miracle for Nituna, who had on that day turned 16 as well. Reluctantly, her parents gave her permission to go, finally realizing that this was what their daughter truly wanted. Her sisters, were incredibly jealous. Nituna simply couldn't wait to get away from the lot of them.
At the hatching there were a good number of eggs, and many candidates. Too many really and the majority would be left standing. Though, there would be another rising soon so no one was too worried. The first to hatch was a Wood, followed by a Sunlance. Dragon after dragon came out until there was a rainbow of colors on the sands. Impression after impression happened and finally only one egg was left. It wasn't the largest, but it was a fairly large egg. The dragonet inside, finding that it was her time to come out, burst forth from the egg and hissed in fury. How dare it be the last! How dare the others take their turns before her!
The Starlight hissed at the nearest candidates. She'd take her fury out on them, yes that seemed appropriate to her. Flaring her wings, the starlight jumped onto the boy next to her and began tearing at his body. Nituna gasped, concern flaring up, and distaste at the dragonet's actions. Hearing that in the candidate's mind, the starlight spun around, only to turn rainbow eyes on Nituna. You will have to get over yourself NitunaMine. You're not weak, and I know that. Do not prove your Dynaskith wrong. She is never wrong after all, and will never choose someone who is weak and worthless. I'm the best thing here, better than any Queen. I deserve only the best in turn.
In weyrlinghood, Nituna and Dynaskith trained hard. The starlight's pride fueling their every move, and Nituna's need for perfection fine-tuning it. They soon graduated and rose to the rank of WingRider. Even then the starlight thinks she deserves more and would fight if she could to gain the position. Nituna's resolve to keep the starlight in line was the only thing that kept the dragoness at bay. Soon though, Nituna knew she and some of the other WingRiders would start having problems. Placing a transfer to Rainbow Mists, the starlightrider was glad to hear they accepted it.
Adoption?: NPC please
Dragon's Name: Dynaskith
Dragon’s Gender: female
Dragon's Age:
Dragon's Size: 37.8 feet
Dragon's Color: Starlight 161661 and f6d75d
Dragon's Appearance:
Dynaskith is a medium midnight blue color. Being about the same hue head to tail, she doesn't have any interesting markings so to speak except for some flicks of the normal yellow/orange around her hide. Her legs are a bit longer than most starlights’, and her body a bit thinner giving her a long and slim appearance. Her wings are strong and broad, giving her plenty of stamina during flights. However, she lacks some of the agility that other, smaller dragons have. She generally also has some hints of yellow and/or scarlet in her eyes.
Dragon's Personality:
Vain, Short-tempered, Aggressive, Competitive
The starlight is extremely vain, so much so that you would think she was better suited for a Queen-seeker, as most go to, rather than a sweet and sensible girl like Nituna. However, that match balances each other out fairly well. Dynaskith also is quite short-tempered and is known to not deal with others well. She doesn't ever play nice, and is impatient all the time. When someone doesn't make her happy, Dynaskith either has a fit, or she will lash out at the person or thing. Often, she actually does both. Nituna generally is able to keep a good handle on this though, and so it hasn't caused too many problems. If you of course don't count the whole having to transfer to another Weyr thing. To finish this off, Dynaskith is also competitive. She can't stand anyone getting in her way, or being better than she is. Everything she does turns into a competition, and she must excel at it. Otherwise, again it ends in some sort of tantrum.
Dragon's History:
Dynaskith was the last of her clutch to hatch. The starlight was incredibly unhappy about this and took out her anger on a male candidate before seeing Nituna and impressing. From there she made weyrling hood hard on Hers since she had trouble getting along with others. To be honest, this problem still is around. As a wingrider and dragon now, things haven't changed much. Dynaskith's competitive/aggressive edge made it so difficult, that many of the other dragons and dragonesses started to return that aggression. No fighting came of it of course, but Nituna was faced with the decision of staying and learning how to deal with a wing that didn't want her, or move to another Weyr and start over. She chose the second option.
