Appearance:
Kelsira is tall for a woman, to her occasional dismay. At 5'10", she isn't dainty by any means. Her shoulders are broad, which means she often has a hard time finding shirts or dresses that fit without alterations. Her body is naturally curvy, and years of working in the smithy have added tone and muscle. When she was younger, Kelsira often wished that she had a smaller frame, or at the least didn't feel so masculine. She's since come to realize that she is exactly as she should be. Her strength allows her to do her job well and she takes great pride in her work.
Dark brown curly hair falls to her shoulders, softening a square jaw. Hazel eyes rest under dark eyebrows, which she takes great pains to pluck and groom. This and her hair, are her few concessions to beauty.
Personality:
Solid and dependable, Kelsira is the type of person people depend on not only to get things done, but to do it well. A perfectionist by nature and training, she isn't one to do anything halfway. She dives into work, play, or love with enthusiasm, pouring herself into whatever she's doing. Duty is something that Kelsira has always taken seriously. Never one to shirk a duty, Kelsira is almost always the one who is the first to arrive and the last to leave. Her workaholic tendencies have caused others to stop and remind her to that the human body does require sleep. When she does unbend enough to laugh or joke, she has a quiet, dry sense of humor. She’s been accused of being snarky at times, but will try to reign it in if she gets a feeling that the person can’t handle it.
She’s slowly meeting new people and extending her social circle of people she trusts. And although it isn’t easy, she’s met good friends that encourage her to socialize a bit more. Kelsira is however often amused at some of the candidates who haven’t had to work before. She can’t imagine growing up in a place where she didn’t have to do some sort of physical work. Rather it’s rational or not, she tends to mentally judge those who come from what she considers to be “softer ways of life”. Try as she might, she hasn’t gotten past making snap judgments of people as she meets them, although she usually gives them a second chance at a first impression.
One of Kelsira's greatest strengths is her intelligence. She is one of those people who seem to be happiest when given a problem that appears to be unsolvable. She loves a challenge, and in fact the quickest way to get her thinking about doing something is to tell her she’s not capable of doing something. She’s well-spoken and rational, and usually prefers to think her way out of problem. A part of her strength is also one of her weaknesses. Because she is so rational, she tends to miss out on the bigger picture. Kelsira can, and often does, focus so closely on the tasks at hand, that she forgets to take time for herself or others. It’s not that she doesn’t or can’t form emotional attachments; rather it’s that she sometimes forgets that she should
History:
Kelsira was born to Velissa and Kevran five years after her older brother at Dragon Ridge Hold. Like most of the holdfolk, Kelsira comes from a family of miner. Her earliest memories of working in the family business was helping her older brother sort polished gems into piles assorting to grade. Kel has always loved her work, from the physical work of bringing stones and gems to the surface, to manipulating them into the desired end product. It was a surpise to no one that she followed in her brother's footsteps and apprenticed as soon as she was able. The following years consisted of learning from her parents, spending long hours in the mines, and even learning the carve detailed images and lettering into stone. Her stable routine was disrupted when her older brother was searched to Rainbow Mist Weyr and eventually became V'len, rider of blue Aeosth. Until that moment, she had never considered a life beyond the hold and her craft. Kelsira and her family were extreemly proud to have a dragonrider in the family, and her mother always talks about "her son, the dragonrider" to anyone who will listen. For Kelsira, life continued on much as it always had, and she didn't think much more about the Weyr or it's dragons.
At the age of twenty, much to the delight of her parents, Kelsira walked the tables from Apprentice to Journeyman. Recieving her new knots was both an honor and a privilidge, that she hoped she would always be worthy of. As a one of the junior JM miners, Kelsira often had the jobs that others didn't want to do. She pulled the latest shifts in the mine, and worked with the materials that had more flaws. Kelsira didn't mind as much, because she knew that it was all part of paying her dues and working her way up the ladder. She had her life all planned out, and contently making her way towards her goals. Her life changed when a rider arrived on search for the Weyr. Kelsira wasn't too worried about it, since she figured she was too old to be searched. Afterall, wouldn't she have been searched when her brother was? However the blue dragon who was making his way toward her had other ideas. Convinced that he was heading towards her younger sister, Kelsira was rendered speechless when his rider said that it was her that his blue had picked out. Accepting with a bemused expression, Kelsira went about gathering her things and informing the MinerCraft Hall. Since arriving at the Weyr, Kelsira has spent time with her brother and settled into Candidate life at the Weyr. She's come to terms with being one of the older Candidates, and hopes to Impress before she's too old to stand.
