Appearance: Jaryt is five foot nine inches tall with brown to golden toned hair, completely natural. He keeps it short and despite efforts it refuses to lay flat. His eyes are honey brown and his skin is a golden tan color. He's lithe with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Clothing is generally dark for this boy due to his serious expressions.
Personality: While some people would say Jaryt is a loner that's because they've never bothered to get to know him. Reserved is a better way to explain it, not quick to pass judgements or one to make friends lightly. Loyalty is a big word for him and he does his best never to betray the people that matter to him. He has a bit of a temper, too. Idiots are not suffered lightly by the morose youth and he takes care to tell them quickly what he thinks.
No one could find a better friend, though. As scathing as his comments can be he can empathize with the people around him and knows on an intuitive level what they need to hear to get the job done or feel better. Knowing what people need and being willing to give it to them is different, though. The flip side is that if you know the words someone needs and you give them the opposite, you can do a lot of damage.
Jaryt is charismatic in a strange way. People are drawn to the reserves of strength this boy possesses and his powerful bearing. Beneath all the bravado though he's terrified of being abandoned and anyone that leaves him behind or hurts him once never gets a second chance. Jaryt never forgets a betrayal.
History:Life wasn't easy for Jaryt. His existence began in Benden Hold with a death, his mother's. Sekri brought him screaming into this world and, screaming, left it. After she was dead there was much debating about what to do with the baby. Sekri had lost her family in a fire only two years past and so the baby could only go with it's father. Except no one knew who Jaryt's father was. Sekri hadn't planned on dying and didn't tell anyone where the baby should go if she didn't survive the ordeal.
Jaryt doesn't remember much of his past except that the faces changed often. His first memory real memory was being taken, by dragon, to Dragon Ridge Hold. Being on a dragon was exhilarating. The rider's name was P'ltey of Brown Rumikrith. Jaryt couldn't forget the man or the dragon though he only ever saw them in passing. In Dragon Ridge Hold he was apprenticed to a family of farmers. The whole affair was passing strange and shortly after he arrived the family seemed to begin doing better where money was concerned.
It took him several years to uncover the truth, quite by accident. He'd been sharpening tools in the back room when he felt someone watching him. Turning he discovered a messenger with a letter. Tyrun, the head of the family, was out in the fields and Jaryt had no idea when he would return. The messenger left the letter with Jaryt and tottered off. Being a teenage boy with an unopened letter after the first three hours curiosity got the better of him. Especially since the letter had the official stamp of the Lord Holder.
The contents of the letter were not all that incriminating, really. Just the general statement that the monthly allowance was the same as the previous month. It asked about him, though. Whether he was still doing well and if he seemed to be enjoying the farming life or not. When Tyrun returned home to an opened letter instead of answering the questions Jaryt had he thrashed the boy. Hurt, confused, and more than a little sulky Jaryt began spending more and more time away from home.
It was during this time away that he was selected to be a Candidate by P'ltey of Brown Rumikrith. He said there was going to be a hatching at Rainbow Mists Weyr and asked Jaryt if he wanted to put away farming and try his hand at dragons. Did he want to? Of course he did. What boy didn't dream of adventure and dragons? So away they went, into a part of life he'd only heard stories about.
