Appearance: Never in a million turns would Andrilla be considered as tall. In fact, standing at round about five feet in height, maybe five foot one, she might be considered petite. After over a year of consistent meals and a bit of overeating due to the sheer novelty of always having food available, Andrilla has grown into the promise of her curves. Her bosom is plush and her hips rounded though training keeps her from getting overly soft around the middle. With a light complexion and a youthful face complete with dimples, upturned nose, lively green eyes and a wide smile, it is easy enough to understand how Andrilla might be able to charm herself out of a sticky situation. Her hair is a strawberry blonde that strays awfully close to being considered ginger and tends to be a bit unruly, being a mixture of waves and curls and prone to getting a bit frizzy in the humidity of the South.
Personality: To say that the stereotype of redheads applies to Andrilla isn't entirely off the mark. She certainly has her moments. Though there are two very distinct sides to her. The side that only a few trusted people see is lively, uninhibited and quite open; those that trust her rarely have to guess at what she's thinking or feeling. When she's happy she shares it, when she's angry she most definitely shares it. For the most part, Alikai is the only one she spends enough time with to open up to and certainly he's learned over the years just how to make her made enough to pitch fits and anything she can lift really. She is easily riled, especially by Alikai as he's learned all her little buttons and quite enjoys pushing them just as she enjoys pushing his buttons. As far as her closest friend is concerned she is protective of him and when he is threatened tends to become a whirling storm of knives and nails. Perhaps one of her favorite pastimes is annoying Alikai and besting him at something though she tends to get particularly miffed when he bests her. To those who don't know her well she is distrustful, suspicious and aloof, often hard to read. Easily riled and possessed of an explosive temper, Andrilla tends to rage until she tires herself out or until Alikai calms her though she tends to hold onto grudges for quite a while. In all she's opinionated, crass, vocal, and possessed of a short temper though fiercely loyal to those who earn her trust.
History: Born in a small fishing hold on the western coast of the Northern Continent, Andrilla joined her older brother Arinos in the small yet moderately appointed home kept by Andros and Rillana Sullivan. Her mother Rillana Jensen had originally come from the far North and had ventured South to train as a Weaver in Southern Boll. Plans changed when she met Andros Sullivan at the age of sixteen, two years short of walking the tables. He was a dashing young man who worked on a trading vessel and spoke of his dreams to own his own trading ship someday and he wisked her away in his dreams, promising her adventure and exotic new places. They were espoused and Rillana quickly found herself pregnant after moving into the small fishing hold that had been founded by a Sullivan family friend. There she gave her husband a son which they named Arinos.
Four years later, after moving into a larger home though it was still quite modest compared to the home of the Halloren's, Rillana gave birth to a daughter. Andros continued to to work and save and was away much of the time. Rillana longed for him but was content with her two children; Arinos who looked so very much like his father and little Andrilla who was a lively and delightful infant; loved by many in the small community. When Andros was home he was a delight, he showered his wife and children with exotic gifts--trinkets really but something as simple as a seashell from a far off shore generally came with a fantastic story--and attention to make up for his time away. He would teach Arinos and Andrilla how to sail and tie knots, showing them all the different parts of the ship; and he'd tell them fantastic stories of far off lands and strange creatures and people. Andrilla's favorite stories always had to do with the creatures that her father saw on his journeys.
Just before her eleventh nameday--Arinos was fifteen and apprenticed to their father--Andrilla was out in the yard of their modest sized home, helping her mother hang the laundry when one of the cabin boys from the ship on which Andros and Arinos served came flying into the yard on the back of a runnerbeast, startling the family dog. He came with news that there had been an accident during the voyage where a load of cargo shifted during a storm and Andros' leg was pinned. Though she was certainly old enough to remember, all Andrilla can recall of that day is her mother--who had been a handful of months along in her pregnancy--crying and being packed up to go stay with the Halloren family while her mother disappeared down the road that led to the small harbor. Later she would learn, through listening to hushed conversations, that her father was seriously injured and had been taken directly to Healer Hall via dragon from the port they'd docked in; her brother had gone along with him. Her mother had followed via ship and dragon against the recommendation that she remain at home and wait for news of her husbands condition.
Andrilla would slip away from the aged Deirdre Halloren who children had all flown the nest some time ago and would go down to the shore, a secluded area. She wasn't sure if she was watching for her father's ship or if she was just escaping the too-quite house of the lord and lady holder of their quiet little hold but she went there almost every day until she was certain that by the time the rest of her family returned she'd have a new baby brother or sister. Her eleventh nameday came and went and she withdrew from her usual group of friends, keeping to herself and where she'd once been vibrant and full of life she became sullen and prone to outbursts when bothered too much. For whatever reason the Hallorens had kept any news of her family from her.
For six months Andrilla stayed with the Hallorens. She was at the holder's home when the dragon arrived. Though she was certain that messages had been sent even having been told what had happened never would have prepared her for the sight she saw. After nearly half a turn, she fully expected to see her father fully mended and her brother bright-eyed and cheerful as usual and her mother carrying a new brother or sister. Instead her brother and the dragonrider had to help her father down from the dragon's back. His leg was stiff and awkward and he was handed a crutch once he was on the ground. Both her father and brother looked worn and more than a little grim; her mother was nowhere to be seen. Confused and more than a bit concerned, Andrilla ran to her father only to have him brush past her without even glancing at her.
For nearly a sevenday she lived in a strange, silent, tense world where no one talked or made a sound and her father sat in one of three placed; in front of the fire, by the front window or in the bedroom for much of the day. She'd never seen him so still in her life and Arinos seemed almost too scared to talk. After that Andros, no longer able to sail, took up work as a fisherman and rather quickly became the hold drunkard. Being a clever enough girl Andrilla surmised that something had happened to her mother. She would have come back if she could have and her father never would have left her if something was wrong. That left her with one possible outcome; her mother was never coming back. She needed comfirmation though. The Hallorens still had the bundle of letters that had been sent from Healer Hall. At first she asked directly for them but when she was denied, the older couple claiming she was too young for such things, she retreated to her thinking spot on the shore to devise a plan.
It was a few months before her nameday again and her father had descended into a drunken, semi-violent state that often had him erupting into hateful rages. Arinos did his best to take the brunt of it, but it seemed that somedays just seeing Andrilla would set Andros off and young as she was she couldn't understand what she'd done to make her father hate her so--she could never have guessed that her looking so very much like her mother made him relive her loss in his more drunken moments. After just such an outburst, Andrilla had run away and decided that it was time to implement her plan. Petite little thing that she was, and with her experience scrambling about in the riggings of her father's ship when she was a bit younger, she easily scaled the rough stone wall of the Halloren's hold and through the window of their records room. She'd been practicing opening a lock box similar to the one she'd seen Deirdre Halloren place the letters in with a few hairpins and though it took her several tries, she managed to get the letters out.
Scrambling out the window and dropping to the ground, she rolled several feet then ran all the way to the shore. It was there, reading about how her father's recovery had been slow and how her mother had miscarried shortly after arriving and then had succumb to complication from the miscarriage, that she was reacquainted with one of her friends from when she was a bit younger. In fact he and his family had been her neighbors for at least half of her life though having been so wrapped up in her own little world she hadn't noticed the absence of his parents until then. It didn't take long for the two lost souls to latch onto each other. She would seek out Alikai when her father got too drunk and was prone to shouting at her and he'd provide a quiet comfort and stability that she needed, even protection on ocassion when the hold children would bully her because of her "good for nothing drunk of a father". In return she'd provide him comfort as well and it wasn't long before she spent more time away from home, with Alikai, than at home; which was probably a good thing as a few months after her twelfth nameday, Arinos took a spot on the crew of a trading vessel and left home for good, leaving her in the care of their broken, drunk of a father.
As they spent more time together, Andrilla and Alikai developed a relationship built on mutual need, trust and a bit of a rivalry that was sparked when Andrilla, filled with too much energy and angst, challenged the "spindly legged foal" to a race. Of course she was thoroughly beaten but she wasn't the sort to give up and being mildly devious, she challenged him the next day to a race on her own turf; the sea. Having frolicked in the sea since a young age--her father having insisted that his children know how to swim so that they would not drown--naturally she won; or would have won had she not had to go back to keep her gangly companion from drowning when he grew tired. From that day forward they'd often find little things to compete over; anywhere from wrangling clawfish to climbing cliffs.
While on more than one ocassion Andrilla got miffed about losing--mainly only when Alikai rubbed it in--their continuing rivalry never interferred with their relationship and only seemed to strengthen it. On more than one ocassion Andrilla figured she was the only reason that her friend stayed in the little fish hold, especially when they grew older but she never once brought it up, terrified that he might leave on a trace and never come back. As the turns passed and she grew to look even more like her mother, things only got worse with her father until one night, in a fit of grief and rage her father had grabbed her, shouting slurred and barely comprehensible curses and then tossed her from their home. Confused, terrified and not willing to go back into the house, she ran to Alikai's door where she promptly burst into tears. That very night Alikai took her away from Halloren Hold and neither of them ever looked back.
Andrilla adopted Alikai's quest for answers about his parents--she knew what it was like not to know and still carried the letter that so clinically spelled out her mother's demise with her wherever she went--and once her initial uneasiness of being away from all she knew faded, came to enjoy the adventures she had with Alikai with the spunk and life she'd once shown, greeting each new challenge as something of a game. Where as a little girl she would never have considered stealing, necessity forced her to rethink her morals though she did try not to steal from those who couldn't afford to replace whatever it was she took. Of course, it wasn't all fun and adventure like the stories her father used to tell before; there were bandits, certainly not the charming sort and run-ins with various guards. There were also good times like Gather hopping and such and all the while she honed her skills at lockpicking, pickpocketing and knifework.
When they finally made it to Ruathan lands, it was a bit of a let down as neither of them were able to turn up much information on the death of Alikai's parents. Still they stubbornly continued on until they were Searched to stand as Candidates for dragons. Once at the weyr, Andrilla was alarmed to find that they wouldn't be allowed to share a room; even moreso that she was forced to share a room with girls she didn't know. Not used to being away from Alikai like that. Shortly after they arrived, however, the hatching began and it was Alikai who Impressed first; to Black Male Sunristh. Nearly sent into a panic at the thought of having to leave the Weyr without her only friend in the world. NOt long after, however, Andrilla Impressed herself, to Wood Oranlith who was quick to at least attempt to put her mind at ease. Once they had both fed their dragons--Andrilla completely baffled by Oranlith's preference for vegetables and fish--they returned to her room in the candidate barracks to find the eggs that they had stolen prior to being searched were ready to hatch.

Dragon's Appearance:
Dragon's Personality: Oranlith is a steady and calm presence. She is very level headed and tends to take her hurts with a rational and cool head... though she can be quick of tongue and quick to turn those insults back on those who insulted her. She has a keen maternal instinct at times - especially towards her rider, feeling that she needs her support more than anything. She would do absolutely anything for her rider should she need her to. She is generally kind to those around her, but she will not tolerate someone threatening her family and she will let you know it. She tries very hard to control her temper, but after a time it brews and when lost, is a fierce and frightening thing. Which happens more than it likely should. Like other woods she prefers not to eat meat, though she does enjoy a diet of fish from time to time.
