Name: A'kai Von Dagen
Pronunciation: Al-i-ki
Gender: Male
Age: 20 Turns
Turnday: 65.05.17
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Weyrling, Journeyman Runner
Family: Mother, Alisse, deceased
Father, Onokai, deceased
Friends: Andrilla, fellow Candidate and long-time rival
Pets: Azure-Bronze fire-lizard, Fraid
Appearance: Alikai is a Runner. That being said, he is built like one. He is tall, 6' 2" to be exact, and lean, athletic, and strong. His skin is of a moderately pale sort, slightly tanned due to extensive runs throughout his life. His eyes are a striking light blue, in stark contrast to his black hair which seems to be an odd sheen of very dark purple in the right light. His hair, itself, sits in a messy sort of wind-swept pile on the top of his head, draping slightly over his eyes every now and again and dropping just past his ears. It is straight, naturally, however he never styles or brushes it and as such it is generally messy from all of his sprints. His face is thin, with high cheekbones and a weathered look to his flesh and a mouth that usually holds a frown of some sort; his eyes are typically full of nothing. He keeps clean shaven, this includes his arms and legs, as speed on the traces of Pern is of an utmost importance to Runners. His clothing is preferred light, tanktops and thin, loose pants that usually cut off halfway past his knee, allowing his lower legs to breathe and have a freedom of movement. His shoes are the pride of his work, however, having crafted them himself. They are of the thickest hide, perfectly molded to his feet and dyed all black, save for a distinct sky blue line along the side. They have served him for a few Turns, and still have plenty more left in them, with good grip, weight, and balance for all his running pleasure. This is accompanied only by a small pack, which he wears on his back, made of the same material and with the same color design, used for carrying anything he might need on the trace.
Personality: Alikai is predominantly uncaring. That isn't to say he is unkind, however, it is very hard for him to muster any kind of positive emotion even for his closest of friends. When he gets going about something, he is all together passionate, and reaches his goals with as much speed as he can bring to bear. His Running was his life for a very long time, and even when in the Weyr he regularly jogs to clear his mind. His thoughts are usually related to basics, like what he will eat next or where he can run to get some water, and when it comes to other people he usually treats them at arm's length. Weyrfolk bother him, for they are used to being given everything they may want or need, while he is used to working for his keep. His rival and long-time friend, Andrilla, is the only exception to his inability to accept others into his life so-far. But when it comes to her, he is competitive, abrasive, and all together annoyed. But the catch comes when his feelings become involved, for she is the only thing that truly kept him going through all of his troubles, and she has always been there for him. In fact, he kind of... likes her. Though he'd never admit to that, of course! It would just give her reason to hold it over his head anyhow. And besides, she's just so... stupid and annoying and... But I digress. Alikai has a love for the wind, trees, and the trace, and feels most at home when his feet are on the ground. He has fun when he is bothering Andrilla, running, or playing card games, as his poker face is fantastic. He lacks ambition, however he knows he is going places. He is fiercely defensive of women and children, and angers easily, though is also easily calmed. Preferring to speak less and listen more, he finds it easy to take in information.
History: Life began simple for a young Alikai, he was born to his parents in one of the many Runner stations along the Northern traces, near a small fishing Hold on the western coast of the North Continent. When he was a child, his life was very active, training to become the best Runner he could be. His parents were both very knowledgeable in their sport and Craft, and they taught him quite well, up until he was about eight years old when he finally accompanied his father on a Run. They traveled half-way across the North, ended in Fort before heading all the way back. On the trip, his father bought him a necklace, which he still wears today, a small pendant of turquoise inlaid with a silver dove. But this treasure would only become more valuable to him, as two Turns later, he received a note via dragonback from a Hold further out on the Run when his mother and father had taken a particularly large carry and headed toward Ruatha. They had been the victims of unfortunate circumstance, and a group of riders atop runner beasts had trampled them while using a trace as a pathway.
It became difficult to cope, very quickly. Alikai lost most of his innocence that day, and he couldn't even bear to be home, and so he ran, ran far, and it wasn't until he came to the next Runner station that he was taken inside and allowed to grieve. Eventually, he returned home, and attempted to operate his parent's station himself until another Runner family could take over and host him there. Now an orphan, and at a young age of twelve, Alikai felt alone. But things wouldn't stay that way. A girl whom he had been friends with when he was younger had come back into his life, Andrilla, the fisherman's daughter from the house nearest the Runner station. He became reacquainted with her one evening when he had gone to the seashore to clear his mind, and he found her there in the same spot he was going to use, and for similar reason. Her father was unpleasant, he would learn, and upon hearing some of the things he would say, it was enough for him to know that she deserved better. They became fast best friends, and soon he found his life revolved around her rather intensely, coming to her rescue from bullies or finding comfort when his parents were on his mind much too often. Their natures eventually led to camaraderie and later rivalry, sparked by an off-color remark one day when Andrilla figured that she was a fast enough runner to beat him. Her defeat obviously followed, but the following evening, she one-upped him by daring him to swim out to the small island off the shore of their Hold, and saving his life when he tired out and began to drown just before he made it.
Their competitive natures clashed like this all throughout their early teenage years, and although he was sure Andrilla never counted, he could tell you that she had beaten him approximately four more times than he had won in any kind of game of skill they had played. Swimming she was always better, sailing she had him beat, and although he did have running and jumping on her, she had fishing and insulting and knife play on him.
But their relationship did take a drastic turn one evening, when she arrived on the doorstep to his hideaway in tears. He brought her inside, and upon discovering the cause for her distress, flew into anger the likes of which he had never felt before. Her father had pushed her from his home, and she no longer had a place here. Rather than stay, then, he decided to leave, and he decided to take her with him. Their first goal was to secure food, and after stealing from the next Hold they came across, he turned their course toward Ruatha, hell-bent on discovering the perpetrators of his parent's deaths. As they moved, they encountered new challenges and people, had run-ins with bandits and attended several Gathers in vastly different areas. Trading, stealing, and scavenging tended to be the way they got their supplies, and it was this nomadic lifestyle that they pursued for nearly four Turns, picking up skills along the way. He himself became exceedingly good with a bow, finding it easy to move about with and much lighter than a sword. His favorite weapon he had ever been allowed to handle was a crossbow, though, and one of their nastiest adventures happened because he had stolen the best one he could find, the crossbow of a Lord Holder in a minor Hold outlying Fort. His guards had caught him just before he made it out of there, and after a sneak-attack from Andrilla to disable them, they both fled over the side of a long hill and into woods, chased for six days before they finally evaded the guards. Through their time in the Ruatha area, they were unable to get more than a few leads about the deaths of Ali's parents, until one day it would be that both he and his friend were chosen as Candidates for the dragons. He hasn't abandoned his search, however, simply postponed it for the time being.

Name: Sunristh
Pronunciation: Soon-rise-th
Color: Black (m) (010500)
Size: 28 feet
Personality: To say that Sunristh is very intelligent is an understatement and he knows it. His memory is good for a dragon and his plots and plans are sharp and quick. He has a lot that he plans to do and ambitions higher than Rukbat itself. He is a rather vengeful creature who takes what he wants and cares nothing for others. He never shows his soft side, but underneath this outer layer of kingly pride and arrogance is a soft loving heart with the capability to create strong attachments - though he may treat those he cares most for quite poorly at times, he will always confide in his rider. To say that Sunristh is a bit of a dark personality may be accurate.
