Appearance: Alerae is about average in height, standing a 5'4". Her form is actually quite athletic as she has been in the Weyr for a few turns now and not spending the time in idle revelry. Alerae is graced with the pale skin of a Northerner, and it is relatively smooth and unblemished as she takes good care of herself. She has an slightly inverted triangle shaped face, featuring a large forehead and a narrower jaw ending in a slightly jutting chin. Her cheekbones are higher on her face, and perk out like small apples when she smiles. Her teeth are clean and relatively straight, though she does have a slight overbite. Dimples form on both sides of her mouth, her lips a little thin though the upper lip is thinner than the lower. wide nostrils narrow to a cute stubbed nose, the bridge straight and curved inwards just a bit. She has oval shaped eyes with slight tapering on either side. The coloration is a lovely hazel, rich brown around her pupils fading out to a yellow-green color on the outside of her iris. They are framed by long, sooty lashes. Her eyebrows match the curve of her eye, tapering to a point at her nose, and widening slightly on the other end. Alerae's hair is solid black, but the coloring is a little dull and doesn't have much shine to it. She wears it long, ending just under the lower edge of her shoulderblades, but it waves when dry, so sits about an inch shorter. She usually leaves it down, parting to the side to let it hang against her face on one side, and tucked behind her ear on the other.
The rest of her body is somewhat plain. She bears wider shoulders and average length arms, though her hands are on the small side with dainty fingers. Traveling downward, her body forms a gentle pear shape. She bears a narrower chest with small, though well-formed breasts. Her waist and stomach is trim, widening into curved hips and a round, firm rear. Her thighs are fuller, to better fit her child-bearing hips. She ends in longer than average legs, leading down to average sized feet.
Alerae is a stickler for cleanliness, and likes to make sure she is always prim and proper. She almost always wears skirts or dresses, and rarely wears trousers unless the situation merits it. She favors bright colors, and monocrome color schemes, so is usually clad in various shades of the same color. Her hair is worn down, though she will wear a band around her forehead to keep it out of her eyes if she needs to concentrate. When in a formal situation, she is seen in elegant pulled back hairstyles. She LOVES to bathe, and will at least once a day. Although if she does something particularly dirty, she will bathe multiple times a day.
Personality: Alerae likes to see herself as quite a proper lady. She cares about her appearance greatly, avoiding things like stepping in mud or risking getting herself messy. She takes on an affected way of talking, speaking in a very formal matter. She enunciates clearly, and occasionally speaks in third person without realizing it. Along with this, she can have a bit of a 'better than thou' attitude when dealing with someone who has been mean or rude to her in the past, or if they are someone she has deemed unsophisticated. She also loves to be in the spotlight, and while she doesn't conciously seek it, she throws a small hissy fit if it appears she is being ignored.
On the other hand, she shows herself to be tough and resourceful in dealing with problems. She also isn't above getting her hands dirty when it comes to helping her friends. She is willing to sacrifice her appearance to help someone in need, as she knows that this is more important. She will put a friends opinion before one of her own. Honestly, she just wants to make sure the others are happy. While she doesn't have any real skills other than being good with children, she will do everything in her power to help them out. Unfortunately, she can become too focused on certain tasks to the exclusion of all others, which can lead to her losing a grasp on the bigger picture.
One of her biggest downfalls is her lack of self confidence. While she can play it off most of the time, she doesn't take critism well. She had a fondness for the overdramatic, with outburst of tears of tears if someone does something to put her down, or loud complaints when she feels she is in the right of an argument. She also despairs of ever finding someone who will love her and want to be with her. She took the news of Ranellen's marriage badly, and now thinks that she is doomed to never have that kind of true love ever again.
When it comes to relationships, she doesnt really have any. Sure, she will share a bed if she finds someone who needs the physical comfort a lover brings, but she doesnt actively seek any relationship. She has a dream of a storybook kind of romance though. More than anything else, she wants that Prince Charming, the ideal mate who loves her for her and will come and sweep her off her feet.
History:
Alerae was born to Alenna and Raynold in a minor holding under the main Fort Hold. They usually stayed in the main Fort Hold due to her father's job. At the time she was the youngest of four. She had a relatively nice childhood, getting a proper Harper education, and becoming sister to a new sister, and a baby brother. Her mother died in childbirth, and sadly her younger brother followed suit soon after. She gets along pretty well with her siblings in general, and still writes to her father regularly.
She was about 12 when she was betrothed to Ranellen, an heir to another lesser holding in Fort. While he wasn't anywhere near in line to become Fort Holder, he was higher ranking than she was, so it was a good match on her family's part. She didn't like the idea of an arranged marriage at first, but once she met Ranellen, she discovered that she quite liked him. They were due to be married. As a betrothal gift, he gave her a flitt egg, which hatched into a cloud. She named the girl Kaita.
Alas, all was not to be, as she was Searched for the Weyr. The Searchrider deemed her a Candidate, and put it in her father's head that she could ride a Queen. He saw this as a much better turnout, especially as he still had her younger sister Lenola to marry off into a higher rank. So he broke the betrothal between Ranellen and Alerae, forging one between him and Lenola instead. So with a tearful goodbye, Alerae was wisked off to the Weyr at the age of 15.
When Hedara announced that the Silverlights weren't going to be considered Queens anymore as they were Impressing to males, she was outraged. A Dragon should be a Queen if they have right to the title, not dropped down to a lesser dragon. It was at that pronouncement that she decided she simply MUST Impress a Queen, so that she can have them deemed Queens again. It was simply proper for it to be that way.
