Somehow, the child had wandered away from the Creche again. But this time, she'd made her way to the lake in the Bowl before they realized she'd escaped. Yet again.
Yura crawled through the grass unspotted, as the Bowl was mostly empty. It was late evening, when the rest of the creche was asleep. As well as most of the people who were supposed to be watching the children. She made her way into a bush, then stopped when she heard a sharp yip of protest. She pulled her hand up from the soft thing she touched, and then realized what it was. She sat back and laughed, clapping. The puppy, a small brown girl who could only be a few weeks old, sat up and barked once, tail wagging happily. The puppy nuzzled Yura, then licked at the child's face, causing Yura to laugh some more. She imitated the puppy's barking, then made her way out of the bush. The brown puppy followed her, and the two sat by the edge of the lake and played together for a good while.
When someone came near them, Yura turned and barked, as did the puppy. But Yura smiled up at the person. She had made a new friend, and she didn't want to be apart from this puppy.
It was a bit early yet for most Wherhandlers to be out and about, but after his encounter with the pinkrider a little while back, Pandea had decided that maybe he should start wandering around in the daylight more often. Seeing as by the time to sun rose he was usually too tired to mingle with the morning crowd, the afternoon and evening was the only time that he could find to spend with the general population.
Even though it was earlier than his usual 'morning' walk, already the Weyrbowl was scarce of people, and those that were around didn't seem too open to some friendly chatter. And so he decided to head over to the water. It wasn't often anymore he just sat and watched the sunlight play on the ripples, more often than not it was starlight and moonlight. He crouched down and splashed his hand about in the shallows for a moment, enjoying the sparkles of light it created.
With all the things that had been happening lately it was easy to forget the little things, so when he heard a mixture of puppy barks and baby giggling he was drawn to it. It was a bit late for a babe to be out at this time, wasn't it? So when he couldn't see any children playing near any of the adult out he got a little confused. Maybe he had been hearing things? Or maybe it had just been sound echoing out from in the Weyr itself. But then there it was again, much closer than he had thought it was the first time.
Following his ears, Pandea found the little baby and the puppy playing happily near the lake together. The child looked vaguely familiar to him, but then again, most children looked rather similar to one another. He crouched down with a smile and reached a hand out to the puppy. "Well now, what are you two little ones doing out here all by yourselves?"

The puppy licked Pandea's hand, and Yura giggled. The puppy walked closer to her and licked her face, causing her to squeal happily. She hugged the puppy, who nuzzled her.
Of course she'd gotten away again... How many times did that make now? How many more times did she have to get out before the others realized that Yura was just not going to stay put?! He sighed quietly.
"I really need to give them a sound talking-to about her," he muttered as he stalked through the Bowl, searching for the missing Weyrbrat. "Yura! Yura, it's time for bed!"
Yura heard the voice and turned to it, suddenly quiet. "Yura here!" she called. The man turned to her and sighed again.
"You have got to stop doing that..." he said, shaking his head as he picked her up. "And it looks like this little one got away again too." He picked up the puppy with a laugh. "Well, looks like you've made a new friend." He turned to the wherhandler. "She's always getting out, this one. Adventurous spirit, I guess. I'm just glad nothing happened to her."
The puppy barked again.
"Oh, quiet you," said the man to the puppy, who just looked at him with wide puppy eyes. The man laughed. "Well then, I should get both of them back to the creche. The puppy is from a litter mothered by a canine belonging to one of the other creche workers," he explained. "Thanks a lot for finding them." The man dipped his head before turning back to the creche.
