Name: Luna Antares
Pronunciation: lew-nah
Gender: Male
Age: 19 Turns
Turnday: 56.12.10
Weyr/Location: ISW
Rank: Journeyman, Starcraft Hall
Family:
Mother, Andromeda, 45 Turns, Journeyman Starsmith
Father, Rigel, 51 Turns, Master Starsmith
Twin sisters, Castor and Pollux - 4 Turns old
Weyrmate/Spouse: None
Friends: None at ISW so far
Pets: None
Appearance:
Similar to a gently glowing moonbeam, Luna's appearance is pale and delicate. His skin is soft and white, the color of the moon low on the horizon. He is not a fighter in the slightest, and that is very evident in the way he holds himself, taking an enlightened appearance, chin high, stance straight and tall at his full height of 5' 7". He can often be seen with a large tome that contains many star charts and references to global phenomenon and weather, as well as other knowledge of his Craft. As a Starsmith, he is capable of creating lenses, which he wears on his person as small rounded spectacles, as his far-sightedness requires it for reading. He wears robes, mostly, thick and warm, with a scarf partially obscuring his face in the cold weather of the North. He prefers the colors of his Craft, bright reds and darker greys or blacks to compliment. Typically, his robes are trimmed with the bright red of the Starsmiths, and there is a patch sewn onto the side of the left shoulder that bears the symbol of the Starcraft Hall, the same which can be found on the cover of his tome. His hair is shorter, deep dark brown, and straight, reaching in a messy fashion to the tips of his ears. His eyes are a deep, vibrant blue, so heavy in their color that near the edge of the iris they almost appear indigo.
Personality:
Luna is a fairly complicated person, in the sense that he typically means well with his words but has a way of being too blunt on occasion. He is smart, incredibly so, and using that intelligence is his favorite past-time, but this allows people to easily assume him a know-it-all, despite the fact that he probably does know what he's talking about. He is a kind person to those he knows, but isn't very personable to new people, instead coming off as a bit abrasive or dismissive. If somebody gets in the way of his work, he typically doesn't tolerate their presence for long. He has a rather extensive vocabulary, and uses it well, though he can easily be taken for an arrogant or self-absorbed personality because of it, as people tend to think his use of overly complicated language is a way to belittle their intelligence.
When one gets to know him, however, they will start to realize that he isn't arrogant at all, in fact quite the opposite. He knows that everybody has their place, intelligent or not, and that most everybody serves a purpose. With his friends, he is incredibly kind and honest, although he can be a handful to deal with still.
History:
Luna started his life in the Hold of Benden, where his mother and father lived together using the mountains nearby as observation points for their research. Because of this, from a very young age, Luna was exposed to the stars and cutting-edge telescopes practically all his life. His father was one of two people pioneering a new type of telescope, a refracting telescope, one that would allow them to see further and clearer than before with their typical two-lens telescopes. But mirrors turned out to be far too impractical for Pern's technology, and creating one with the precision required for a perfectly flat surface proved to be too far an impossibility for the time being. When he was about eight years old, his father gave up on creating his new invention, and instead moved the family back to Lemos, where his son could begin to truly learn the Craft of his upbringing.
During his life at Lemos, he excelled greatly in the craft of the Starsmiths, creating his own versions of some of the most detailed starmaps on Pern. He showed a particular interest in astronomy, preferring almost entirely to forgo the realm of meteorology, though his intelligence garnered him much knowledge of the subject. Luna was never particularly well-liked by his peers, and as such was more of a recluse, preferring instead to study and observe the heavens rather than take enjoyment out of Gathers or play games with the other children. When he turned sixteen, he began to act as his father's assistant, recording valuable data when he was otherwise too busy, or maintaining his telescopes in his absence. His parents have always been proud of their son, and it was on one particular evening two Turns after he had started to help his father that his crowning achievement was made.
During one particular night at the observatory, he was conducting a routine sky survey of a few particular bodies of interest, when he spotted something new out there that his charts had no record of. The object in question was rather distant from Pern, and it was a remarkable discovery for the time of year, as it was clear out even further than Rukbat. By chance, he had spotted a comet, but one who's period never brought it close enough to Pern to be seen. Instead, it was a long-period comet who's orbit appeared to be bringing it in from much further outside the Pern system, which by his understanding meant that the reason it had gone undiscovered was simply because Pern was closest to it when it was far off in it's orbit, too far for the comet's tail to begin to form. And so, on the opposite end of Pern's orbit, he was able to see it through a telescope for a few days before Rukbat's glare became too great to see it.
For his discovery, he was awarded Journeymanship, and sent to the far North to continue his studies at Ice Stone Weyr, where he was to remain a resident until such a time that the comet passed behind Rukbat and began to make it's way out of the system again and could be observed for another period before it became too distant to form a tail any longer. His assignment would be to chart all of the northern stars until then, and report any other new findings directly to his father, and the Crafthall.
Name: Rinneth
Color: Purple (f)
Personality: Rinneth has a great enthusiasm but oddly enough for a Purple, isn’t overwhelming. Her enthusiasm and energy are carefully used, often to her and other’s benefits, rather than just being hyper all of the time. However, on occasion her rationing can lead to her natural Purple energy turning to frustration and she can have a sharp tongue if she hasn’t been flying around recently. In the same way, if she ever is wronged, she can hold onto it for far too long and it colors her opinion of a person beyond what has been done to her. Still she is generally very sweet and isn’t one to stomp around, just in case there is something tiny and wonderful that she hasn’t spotted yet. She has a constant sense of wonder, and even if she has seen something as ordinary as a snowfall a thousand times, doesn’t mean that it still isn’t as lovely as the first time she saw it.
