Honestly, I would cry if R'nos got baleeted.

I've been a member of this Weyr for six or so years, and it's to the point where this is part of my childhood. Quite literally. I started in middle school, I'm now in college.

I would be heartbroken if all of those memories were forgotten by anyone who held them.

However, I understand the necessity for freshness, and while this is a good idea, I would still urge something be compromised over if this idea is passed. That being said, if characters were dead instead of revamped out of existence in the time line, that would much more suit my tastes.

Keep the history, jump to the next Interval, come into or out of the time of Threadlessness. Or maybe even start a time travel plot that causes the revamp, and keep a separate thread for old old histories, such as WFVW.

But I'm sure I can say that Kaya will not want her beloved Weyr going away so suddenly like that, and I know I sure as heck wouldn't either.

Still, a revamp does make sense, and it would re-spark the Weyr's activity with new people, if we actively recruited right after. All new Weyrwoman, all new Riders, all new wars and things. In fact, if that were to happen, I would petition for an inclusion of all of Pern, and open our roleplay up to the possibilities other than dragon riders that Pern has to offer. I for one love my characters who are Harpers, for instance.

The Harper Hall series is the first series I read out of any of the books on Pern, and they are still my favorite. I love them to death, Menoly's story is the most interesting I've found yet.

I have to be honest, I wouldn't really cry over a character being gone. Actually... although I love them... I would be okay with most of them passing on... But... that's beside the point.

I think that no matter what we do, we should keep the history, which would have to have some impact on the future simply because its the past and we're moving into the future. Maybe not as honed an influence or in a way that makes it overly relevant in such a way as to bog do roleplay.

I, too, need to brush up on my Pernese. But if we move into a timeline where all the characters in this point are dead, I believe that it would be a good move. If characters are still alive, it will be too tempting to pull them into the roleplay.

It would be nice to have that ability to play past characters, but I think that could be something just as easily done through something such as pm if you simply send a message around to the people in the group or send a group pm, which is very easy to do. I, personally, have done it several times on Proboards. HAving a board dedicated to it might detract from what is going on in the roleplay and forum at large.

A seperate place for old threads is alwasy good and a place for old bios and more specific histories or even stories and things with these characters is also smart. It would also help to imortalize characters further.

I think we need to keep it RMW and WFVW, just far into the future. It may even be good to try to shift some focus to WFVW in a similar fashion as we have ISW and DMW and keep RMW as the focal point. But WFVW is supposed to have reopened, but we haven't really seen much of it ,which isn't really something that is overly noticed, sadly, consideringhte position that it has.

I would also like to see it extend further than the Weyr to the crafts and to the Holds and such. I really like Healers and Harpers.

I have more I could say, but I will wait until I am more concious and thinking more clearly.

tl;dr

Anyway, yeah, an Interval is a period of something like a thousand Turns, basically one entire cycle of the whole solar system around Rukbat, which brings the Red Star away from and close to Pern, generating a period in which Threadfall does not happen at all for about 100 Turns or so.

And what I meant by a separate Thread, is leave all of the old Records/events/character bios in one big thread for people to look at and nostalgia over and remember and new people can see it and go "wow these guys are super kewl" and whatnot if they're bored waiting for a post.

Honestly I could seriously live without RPing any of my old characters from the WWI period. I love them and all, but they are very basic as they are some of the first characters I've ever had, and almost every version after the first version of S'nire was like 400 times more fun to RP. Version 2.0 was by far my favorite character ever RP'd. He was back at Atlantis Weyr. I literally cried five times during the entire thread I did with Nazo.

Side note, she's actually dead. I know, little weird to mention it, but one of our RMWers is legitimately dead. I spoke to her the night she OD'd on pills, actually. Very sad, I cried for awhile.

Anyway, away from depressing stuff, before I get all depress-y...

I would absolutely love the opportunity for a fresh Weyr, with all of you. I love all of you and I know you are all awesome RPers, and to have new, exciting adventures almost makes me want to squeal. Almost. I never will, you can't make me.

Yeah... I don't think I ever mentioned what happened, but I met her through Lynn and to make a long and horrible story short, she did something very bad to me that I only recently forgave her for before she passed on, and I believe the world lost out on a very kind-hearted person who was only the way she was because of a messed up past... But I digress, she is a permanent friend of mine despite what I said about her at some points.

I look forward to sipping klah with her in the afterlife.

Just for future reference, I was brought in by Doni rather quickly back when I literally had no idea was Pern was. I was there for the first hatching and everything. =3 But yeah, I'm pretty much even with you my dancy friend.

I know this is going to sound really weird but the biggest thorn in my side at this moment are my characters. I'm not taking about my characters I currently have here I'm talking about the ones I don't have here. I admit, I'm a little weird about characters, as in all of the ones I use I have had before hand and made it so they can work in Pern. I know its kinda selfish to besaying this but I don't want to just make up characters for this half hazardly and go along with it. I did make one unique character for this place but You guys hardly saw him. And yes I have characters I can convert but it takes time to wrap my head around them and to me, is a hassle. I know this sounds annoying but it has taken me a while to build up the crew I do have here, and it would take me a while again. That and all of the easy ones to convert are either already dead or currently in use. I'm okay with character death, and I'm okay with time movement, it is just with my character base wiped out I won't be able to do as many rps at the same time. I know the whole point is to take out the DMW and ISW characters but there was like one time where I only had one character and that was at the very begining and therefore years ago. Heck, before ISW appeared, I had five characters, maybe six. It's hard for me to remember when they showed up and when others died.

Right besides that bit I suppose I should respond to the rest of it. It seems to me this is more like making an entirely new guild with new characters. Just with the same color mutations and maybe lifewings. I don't know if that's what you are going for or not but 'unno about that.

I need to think more. I'll return with comments when think up something worth commenting.

It's not I don't have lots of characters its that I only have so many characters I can use here as opposed with other places. It's a weird thing where a pivotal part of the character has to do with how they grew up that doesn't translate well to Pern. But again this is me and I'm weird.

Out of curiousity have you already asked Kaya?

Obviously, I'm not sold on this right now. I'm trying to keep my head open right now though.

I'm all for this, I agree. It's hard for me to keep track of all my characters here because there was no centralized character database on Neo. Plus the clean slate would attract more newbies and it would be fun to have a whole group of chars that already have a backstory and can be played off the bat. Sure I would miss a few chars, Elouia and Paralee in particulat but if we kept all of the old threads and chars in a board labeled RMW Museum, maybe that would help? (Sorry if that's lame i like the museum idea) I do agree to hear what Kaya has to say but I think a time jump would be just what this old weyr needs.

I sort of run into a similar problem as Shoki, I guess. I've got a decent number of characters I've made, but not so many that can transfer here. Most of those are already here. Some of them are fairly recently brought in.

The other problem I have with it is... Well it was the history and particularly the fact that it is active that drew me to this guild in the first place. Most of those who don't have an active history I've seen last a year or two.. some times three... but I've never seen them last more than that. The ones I've joined that have an active history last six, seven, eight.. survive moves... are still running to this day even if I'm no longer a part of them. Any weyr that has been alive for as long as RMW has should have an active history as that history has been played out by the characters and their players. If you want something fresh you don't have to completely start anew. It can be done by introducing new and exciting plots and elements to the weyr.

If you are dead set on jumping forward in time.. I think there should be a plot involved to have some of the riders between through time so that not all of our characters are lost. I also don't think that both ISW and DMW need to be gotten rid of. perhaps one or the other. Another thing you could do with that, and I've seen sites do it before, is separate them onto their own site and allow them to exist independently of RMW while still interacting with this site.

Yeah I mentioned a time-travel plot earlier, that *would* allow for a group of old RMW characters to be in the new time/setting. And it's completely canon, that's the coolest part. Personally, I'm not sure I would bring any characters, as I mentioned before they lack the depth and emotion that my new ones have. R'nos feels like RPing myself (because he is, really, me.) and a long while ago that became stale, as I use RPing as an escape from reality now as opposed to reminding myself. I mean, even right now, behind me my dad is passed out drunk. He's a heavy drinker, incredibly so, unemployed, etc. I struggle with him all the time. There's a reason R'nos's parents are dead. >_> I love my mom and all but she's kind of crazy.

Either way I digress.

For those that want charries after the timejump, a timetravel allowance would be perfectly acceptable in my eyes, if we were to do this thing. That would also keep stories of old riders alive in the new RP, as well.

And not to sound rude, but Kaya has been Weyrwoman for like evar, and even before here there was Sakura, so it's just weird, to me, to have the same woman so constantly stressed over the same job for ever. xD I'm not saying Kaya the person, but the character. Poor thing.

Edit: If this happens, I already have an idea for the first "new badguys", whom I will gladly plot out for us. They wouldn't be Riders, kind of like Lord whatever-his-name-was who conquered a bunch of Holds in Lessa's books. Only I don't think he'd be a Lord Holder.

History is what makes a place what it is. Ours is a long one and it is filled with all kinds of memories.

To be frank, I have not come up with a definitive stance on this topic. I would like to hear what Nicole thinks and Kia as well, as the two of them have not yet posted an opinion.

Most importantly, Rainbow Mists Weyr, My Weyr, Our Weyr, is a family and has always been a fairly democratic one at that. I've listened to what dragon color ideas members had, what plots and characters people wanted and worked to make them accessible to and compatible with our role play. I stick by that. I have a wealth of imagination and enjoy exploring all the twists and turns that have come our way.

Because of this, whatever the outcome, our Weyr is in need of some serious housekeeping. A lot of the early events were not dated in the role play. Also, a good number of events were not recorded as clean, historic documents in a readable format for new people. Some events were removed entirely (if anyone else remembers the day Tarai wanted Kaya and T'ren to find slimy eggs in their bed - eggs that were supposed to become some odd new pet. I put my foot down on that one) and some reworks have left our history in need of a band-aid.

When we first spoke of a G-revamp years ago it was in the wake of a big Weyr event. RMW was younger, people were split on the issue.

It seems that now, from the voices who have spoken, that perhaps the consensus has changed. RMW is, and will always be, a place where the members and the Weyrwoman work together to create the role playing environment they want.

Let me close for the moment with two If Statements.

If we decide to undergo a move forward in time and create new characters I want us all to be okay with the move. I want concerns about making new characters addressed. I want filled-in history between the time we leave and the time at which we arrive. Lastly, I want events sketched out to engage in along with our move in time.

If we stay in the current time I still support a good amount of housekeeping, updating and freshness. It would be different than a time jump, of course.

Ultimately, I want what is best for all of us and our role play. I want to see it active, enjoyed, and making history. The next step in this is only deciding how we meet that goal.
