Name: Damaris (D'maris) Coran
Pronunciation: da-MAR-iss KOR-an
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Turnday: 60.04.03
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Candidate
Family: Shanna Coran (Mother, deceased), Varshen Morrain (Father, missing/elsewhere), Alyse Morrain (Older sister, missing/elsewhere)
Friends: Tera of Wood Picosith (more like very very loose interpretation of "acquaintance", but beggars can't be choosers)
Pets: None
Appearance: (To be drawn.) At roughly 5'4", Damaris still has hints of the awkwardness of a youth not quite fully come into his growth. His build is a slim one that could perhaps become something more lean with time and the right kind of work - though "thin" might be a more accurate descriptor at present, given his slightly underfed state. If it weren't for the fact that he spent much of his time at Cliffside Sea Hold out of doors, he would be rather pale; as is, he's developed something of a tan, though his nose is usually peeling from sunburn. He has subtly slanted green eyes and mostly-straight, chin-length hair of a shade of brown so dark it could be mistaken for black. He is more likely to smirk than actually smile, and his more common expressions tend to be varying degrees of blank or wary/cautious.
Personality: Above all else, Damaris is wary. Preferring to keep his distance from most people, those that push his boundaries are often treated to the sharp side of his tongue. If he is in a state of high negative emotion, this behavior is particularly violent and deliberately hurtful, much like a cornered animal snapping at whatever is threatening it. He can and will fight if provoked sufficiently or cornered, though he is fleet enough of foot that he would run if given the chance, normally preferring to avoid physical confrontation. He does not trust easily - but when that trust is earned, it comes with respect, loyalty, and likely a long-term friendship. He doesn't care much for being in the public eye, preferring to watch and listen from the background. Valuing learning for learning's sake, he can come across as a bit of a bookworm if given the opportunity, and would much prefer to be tucked away in a corner with a stack of reading material than surrounded by people. This wasn't always the case, but the necessities of surviving alone and competing with other street rats bred isolation and caution, and those may never fade. Only time will tell.
History: Born in Cliffside Sea Hold to Shanna and Varshen Morrain, Damaris was the second of two children. His sister, Alyse, was three Turns ahead of him. For a time, their family was a good one, if not the closest. He grew together with Alyse, the siblings forming a close bond. But over time, the one between their parents seemed to have frayed. When Damaris was six and Alyse nine, their father left - and took Alyse with him.
Damaris became lonely and withdrawn, much to the dismay of his mother, but there was only so much Shanna could do when she was busy finding ways to provide for herself and her son alone. Three Turns later, Shanna fell ill with a chronic cough. She continued to work, but it wore her down; not long after Damaris turned 11, she vanished, only to wash up on the beach several days later. No one was sure what happened to her. Not that it mattered; her child had already vanished from their home.
Having left his old home because it was too painful to stay, Damaris learned to scrape by on his own. He turned out to have a talent for going unnoticed, and quickly developed a knack for making other folks' food and wares his own without causing an uproar. He rarely had to deal with guards simply by virtue of being careful and not getting too greedy; the only trouble he really seemed to have was with the other street rats when they decided he was nosing in on their territories. For the most part, though, he only took what he needed, when fishing and foraging in the area around the small cave he'd claimed as home wasn't enough to keep him going. It was fair to note that if anyone ever offered charity or kindness to him, his sticky fingers would leave their items unmolested. A thief he might be, but not one without some sense of decency.

Dragon Preferences:
Preferred Colors | 1) Silverlight 2) Aurora 3) Black or Black-mix 4) Sunlance | 1) (His preference, in spite of not caring a whit for weyr politics or power) Personality traits are ideal to help mellow his surliness, and he would in turn be extremely devoted to her. 2) (My preference) Personality traits with some similarities, but including traits that would encourage a close and potentially healing bond between the two. 3) Interesting blend of similarities/mutual interests and traits that would clash with Damaris's current personality, along with a tendency to draw attention without being as aggressive with it as something like a Purple or Sunset. 4) A nice "opposite" without being too much of a contrast, with a personality type that Damaris would find comforting and encouraging, that could eventually soften his outlook. |
Cross Impression? | Yes | Cross-Impression would be ideal. (Female hatchling) |
Preferred Type(s) of Dragon/Rider Pair | Growth/Complement | Growth is especially preferred, largely from a writing standpoint. Characters that grow and change are far more interesting to write than static ones (particularly since growth and change are natural over time for people and therefore characters). |
Preferred Personality Traits | Something to balance his own traits without outright contrasting. Interpret as you will. | It's important not to contrast too strongly with his own traits, at least insofar as introvert vs extrovert. He will not do well if suddenly forced into the limelight, and there will be a great deal of strife between him and his dragon in that situation. |
Mauling | No preference | If yes, avoid major injuries, please? |
