Dragons
Dragons range in size from fourteen to over forty six feet in length, measured from chest to base of tail. A dragon has two head knobs, eye ridges and a line of ridges that extend from the crest of their head to just above the base of their neck. Their tails lack ornamentation and end in a fork. Dragons have hide that is smooth and requires regular applications of oil to prevent dry, patchy spots. Dragons are intelligent and have good memories. Dragons are capable of speaking to humans other than their Rider but a good portion of them chose not to.

Wood Hall
Apprentices typically begin at age twelve and achieve Journeyman status in six to eight Turns. Masters are experts of the craft, usually over age thirty.
Although not backed by a formal Hall, there are many other occupations on Pern. If the Pernese have it, someone must have made it.
Search
Any dragon can go out on Search. It is required of many Riders when a Hatching is imminent but is not required outside of that time. Riders are permitted to go on Search within the land they protect and may be allowed Searching rights into the land of other Weyrs if the two are on good terms.
