It is a time of uncertainty and political change, when the average Pernese is likely to equate dragonriders with criminals, and the gleam of the Red Star grows ever brighter in the eastern sky. High profile people are dying, and some whisper of foul play, and others wish to distance themselves from the Weyr that saved dragonkind…
Welcome to Blackwater Canyon Weyr.
Our story takes place several generations after a widespread plague nearly wiped out the dragon population of Pern. Had it not been for the illicit genetic tinkering of a rogue dragonhealer, and the mutant colors that he produced, it is likely that Pern's dragons would have been lost to extinction. Despite being outcast, however, those mutants survived the plague, and, along with the criminals that supported them, they went on to repopulate the Weyrs of Pern.
Now the Red Star grows ever brighter, as a new Pass looms near. Some of the re-opened Weyrs are unhappy about the criminal stigma that still clings to dragonriders, and they wish to distance themselves from Blackwater. Others hold strong to their traditions and identity as the outcast saviors of Pern. Will the politics of the day cause the dragonriders to forget their origins? Or will Blackwater come through this new trial with
the same defiant spirit as always?
Blackwater Canyon Weyr is a semi-canon play by forum RPG set in the world of Anne McCaffrey's Pern. We offer a different twist on many of the original themes of the Dragonriders of Pern series, to include:
- four new colors, including fertile female Titanium dragons
- no sexuality based Impressions
- a drastic decrease in canon color dragons, making them rare and precious, and greatly honored by the average Pernese folk
- a game heavy in global politics and intrigue
- a significant role for whers and wherhandlers
- merit-based In Character (IC) rank structures
- and a clutch hardening on the sands!
