Name: D'ret Riverborn
Pronunciation: D-rhett
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Turnday: 3058/11/28
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Dragon Weyrling
Family:
Mother: Serailah, location and status unknown
Father: Unknown
Sibling/s: Unknown
Other: There were several older people in Riverway Hold that took turns, and helped raise Deret, and he considers them all a parent-figure.
Friends: Turin(NPC)
Pets: None
Appearance: Average to tallish height for his age, he stands about 5’7” with a few inches to grow more in the coming years. A life of spending most of his time outside, coupled with working to earn his own way in Riverway has awarded him with a surprisingly muscular build, and a sun-kissed complexion. When he wears it at any length, his hair is a vibrant Aubrey-brown color, but he tends to keep it close-cut to his head, nearly shaved. He has gray-hazel eyes that usually have an upbeat look to them, glittering with some inner-joke or thought. His facial expression tends to hover with a small smile, a positive poker face.
Personality: Friendly, for the most part. He always seems to have a small smile, and an open word. Proof of his usually happy demeanor is plastered on his face, his lips nearly always curled into a small smile. He has a great love for all things, it seems. He can always be found offering a kind hand to those that need it, such as the elderly, and the very small, or the injured. He enjoys being outdoors, and being active, keeping his body moving. Nothing is better than working up a good sweat, and then a cool bath. He loves creatures, having always enjoyed helping with the Herders, and Farmers. He can read and write well, but he would rather relax with his own thoughts, or enjoy the view. One odd quirk, he despises greens. Give him meat, and bread, and cheese, and he is a happy man. On the more negative side, he can have a temper. Though it may be slow to build, and almost endless patience at times, he does have certain triggers that can make him go berserk. Things he loves, he has no patience for them being hurt in any form. Bullies hold no forgiveness, and once one has earned his hatred, there is no forgiveness in his heart.
History: Riverway was known for its tourists, and it was one such young lady that traveled there that gave birth to Deret one stormy day. Her traveling companion(presumably his father), had urged her to wait and forego her scheduled trip, but it had been her dream to see the ruins, and motherhood terrified her. Her freedom, gone as soon as this parasite tore out of her nethers. So the woman traveled, and got to see the ruins, got to touch the names carved on the crumbling walls. And later that day, Deret was tired of waiting.
The agony of childbirth seemed too much for Sera, and the old Healer woman in the village tried helping as best she could. Sera survived, Deret seemed healthy. Thinking the worst over, the Healer took her leave to retrieve fresh blankets against the coming storm. Upon her return, the babe was screaming at the top of his lungs, the parents nowhere to be found, and the storm was already banging on the shutters.
Years roll by, and Deret had been passed around(gently), between the older folk in the village. Folk who’s children were already grown and gone away to the greater world. The Healer woman taught him gentle things, how to mend, to help her gather herbs in the surrounding countryside, how to brew medicines. The Crafter’s took it upon themselves to teach him the basics, menial labor he could to do help out around the village. The Smith taught him the way or flame and iron, how to feed the bellows, pound the metal. Again, basics. The boy was adept, but did not show intense talent with any of it.
Then one day, some of the bigger children in the village were picking on a smaller young man. Deret was acquaintances with all of them, having never deeply befriended anyone, passed around as he was. When the young man(about 10), saw the group ganging up on Turin, something broke inside him. Such rage erupted out of the boy, and with a roar he charged in. It was wrong what they were doing, just because they were bigger! He saw red, and nothing could stop him. He was beaten, knocked down, pushed, hit, kicked, and still something stormed within him. Still he fought on, jumping back up over and over, a wild, uncontrollable beast.
The fight was over when adults rushed in, literally tearing Deret and the rest of the boys apart. Surprisingly, sheer adrenaline seemed to have only aided Deret. The bullies were far worse off. Since then, Turin and Deret were inseparable. Deret only refined his defense since then, taking it upon himself to be a protector for the weaker off, human or animal.
At 18, he was Searched out of Riverway, and though it pained him to leave his home(as dramatic as it was), Turin and the elders urged him to go.
It was at that Clutch that he Impressed his Blue-Sunlance dragon, Stenecoth.
