3077.02.14 | Towards the middle of the night (ending around 23:00)
The request was long-standing, an agreement made between a young man and the only people who, other than his adoptive family, had not turned their backs on him at that point in his life. He’d met other people in the months since, here in this new place, but that didn’t lessen his debt to those that had saved him and his family, and still kept his family safe… contingent on his own usefulness, which also contributed to why he was honoring this request.
K’rad crept through the WeyrBowl. His clothes, all dark, nothing the same shade, blended into the night with the same efficiency of his dragon’s swirled Midnight hide. In a corner of the Bowl, next to the entrance to the Hatching Sands, mind silent, eyes hidden by the simple expedient of closing the lids, that same small Midnight dragon waited. This shouldn’t take too long.
On silent feet, Kel slipped through the entrance into the Hatching Sands. The Golden Queen was sleeping, her head facing mostly away from him. What little breeze there was blew towards him, so she shouldn’t even realize he’d been near. Edging closer, he stepped up to one of those glorious — and gloriously valuable — eggs.
Soon, he was slipping out again, climbing onto Belegurth with his precious burden well wrapped and surrounded by warm sand. Belegurth leapt into the sky, standing out briefly against the stars before vanishing between. Belegurth emerged from between with his customary precision, coming out less than his own length from the ground and settling quickly.
“You have it?” the man asked.
Kel turned slightly to the left, his only response a simple nod as he loosened the carry sac containing the precious cargo. Three man stepped close to take it, and then Belegurth was airborn once more. He took a little more height, allowing K’rad to spot the Blue who was ridden by another of the syndicate’s people, before focusing for Rainbow Mists.
They hadn’t taken very long. No one would have noticed that K’rad was absent from his post guarding Jr. Weyrwoman Lady Artemis.
