Name: Anai Valleyborn.
Pronunciation: a-NAI
Gender: female
Age: 20
Turnday: 03.15.3057
Weyr: Rainbow Mists, formerly from Waterfall
Rank: Jr Weyrwoman
Family: Mother, Anta of Moonlight(f) Henreth, age 40. Father, K'ai of Black(m) Kopeth, would be age 43, present location unknown, believed dead. Younger sister Anka, age 14, Candidate.
Weyrmate: none
Friends:
Pets: none
Appearance: Anai keeps her brown hair long to cover the left side of her face, where she got scarred about a Turn and a half ago during Amareth's Hatching. Her eyes are bright, clear blue, and usually filled with thoughtful lights. She is rather average in the physical department, at 5 foot 6 and 110 pounds, making her a slender young woman with a slight hourglass figure. Her skin is on the pale side, but she doesn't have freckles.
She is rarely ever seen without her small riding knife, but no one can ever claim to have seen her draw it. On a usual day, she prefers wearing more feminine clothing. Long skirts, flat-bottomed shoes, and her hair loose. The only time she ever ties up her hair is when she is practicing Wing maneuvers. And even then, she lets her hair down again once Amarath is on the ground.
Personality: Anai is a rather carefree girl, who never seems to get bothered by anything. She will do paperwork, eventually, but one is more likely to find this girl outside with her dragoness, in the sun. And, though she tries to deny it, she is surprisingly self-conscious about the scars on her face. They're just some ugly scars, but she still gets nervous when exposing them. She is used to people being scared of her scars, running away from her when they see her face.
Her anger, though, when it does emerge, has been known to scare people off. It happens so rarely that its hard to imagine her angry. She really doesn't like fighting, and prefers to keep out of it when possible. Sometimes she will step between two people and push them apart. She does know how to defend herself, but she would rather not need to.
If one was to ask her, she would say that she honestly does not know why she was chosen by Amarath. But she has been known to be the calm, the voice of reason when others are directed by anger, fear, or hate. As for authority figures, Anai will only voice her opinion on a given topic if she is included in the decision-making process because she doesn't want to seem rude.
Anai still harbors ill feelings toward her mother. She feels like she and her sister were both abandoned, since their mother had absolutely nothing to do with them after leaving them to the creche.
She actually was a very dark individual before Impression. Even before her face was marred, the fact that she felt abandoned colored her view of everything. She felt like she wasn't wanted by the people who were supposed to be the most important to a child. When someone else's parents came to visit them in the creche, Anai would hide somewhere until the parents left, so she wouldn't have to watch and be reminded of what she was missing.
Then she Impressed to Amarath, and her view of the world brightened. She had been Chosen, someone HAD wanted her! She began to smile, despite the scars on her face, and many people saw that she was changing for the better.
Despite this, she still tends to hide her emotions from those around her. She will smile, but she will not allow her anger to be seen. Some say her kind of anger is the more fearsome of the two kinds. Unlike others, whose anger bursts out of them at the moment they feel it, Anai's anger will boil just below the surface until it boils over. Once that happens, she will not hesitate to share her true opinions, despite what the other people will feel about them.
History: Anai was born in Waterfall Valley Weyr, to a Rider pair who turned her over to the creche as soon as she was weaned. She didn't have too much contact with her parents after she reached five Turns, until her mother returned to the creche when Anai was seven, with another daughter who was nearly a year old at the time. Anka was the girl's name. Anai didn't really care much about the other girl, but they were so similar that it was hard to notice that they were siblings.
Anai started helping her sister, begrudgingly at first, when she turned eight, and after a Turn or so, the two girls were always seen together. It baffled some of the younger chreche workers, who had believed that the sisters weren't going to be all that close.
At thirteen, Anai became a Candidate. The first Clutch she was allowed to Stand for, however, didn't happen until she was fifteen. This was simply due to her lack of attention during lessons, so said her Candidatemaster.
For most of the Clutches, Anai stood in the back, not really caring about what happened, whether she Impressed or not. However, somewhere between her eighteenth Turnday and her nineteenth, she got caught off guard by a Hatchling who scratched up her face. That was when Amarath stepped in, shoving the other Hatchling off the girl she had picked as her own. But the damage was done. Anai's face was permanently scarred on one side.
Once she had healed, she realized just how lucky she'd been. One of the scars on her face had just barely missed her eye. She did not suffer from any handicap because of the scars, all they did is mar her face. However, she began to distance herself from the other Weyrlings because of the scars, instead of because of her young Queen. She began to fear rejection from her peers because of her scars, believing they would reject her the way her mother had. She started growing her hair long to cover the scars.
She focused more on her Weyrling lessons than she had on her Candidate lessons, and the others were surprised and impressed. She Graduated with the rest of the Weyrlings, and then she went to speak to Weyrwoman Nikalys, requesting a transfer. Waterfall Valley Weyr no longer felt like home to the young Queenrider, and she wanted to leave. And, after some thought, she wanted to bring her sister with her. The paperwork was finally complete, and the two girls were given a rather normal send-off.
Adoption?: Preferably not.
Dragon's Name: Amarath
Dragon’s Gender: female
Dragon's Age: 19 months
Dragon's Color: Silver - bbb2b2
Dragon's Appearance: Unlike her Rider, Amarath's hide is free of blemishes. However, it is clear that she hasn't reached her full size. She will easily hit 40 feet, possibly even larger once she finally reaches her full size. Her tail is a bit longer than average, but still within the normal range.
Dragon's Personality: Amarath, while observing the traditional niceties and formalities, is a quiet Queenling. She would rather observe than speak, but she will readily give her opinion if asked for it. She likes to people-watch, often sunbathing while she watches the Weyrfolk. She feels that people are just too busy sometimes.
She has trouble understanding some human concepts, like why Anai is still angry at her mother. As Amarath sees it, that's the natural way of life. Once a youngling is able to care for itself, it leaves the mother. That's how dragons are, anyway. She does a lot of people-watching to try to make sense of these strange human things, things that just don't make sense to her.
Similar to Anai, her anger is a force to be reckoned with when it does emerge. This is a rare event, however, and the only way to really bring out her anger is to injure or threaten Anai.
Dragon's History: Born of Silver Devareth and Tiger Gigareth, there isn't really much to tell about Amarath as of yet. She still wishes she'd found Anai just a little bit sooner at the Hatching, then she could have prevented the damage to her girl's face.
