Shri knew a lot of people in the Aerie. The reasons were multiple for this, but the two main ones were her status as a former Aerie brat, and her occupation. She often didn’t know people deeply, but she knew their strengths regarding healing or other work related issues. So, when a voice called out to her, she merely turned toward it, and regarded the Lifewing Rider with a sort of keen recognition.
“Shri, can I talk to you for a moment?” Cr’wean kept his voice level, though some of the usual stress seeped in. The woman before him looked at him, her fair regarding him as well. He didn’t know what magic kept that woman in control of those three, but he wished he had some of it. As it was he was going to be driven mad by his two brats. Speak of the devils, Trynol was attempting to gain his attention, while Flourish was trying to flirt with the Flame that Shri had. Neither of these efforts were successful.
“Is this personal or business?” Shri watched Cr’wean start, then take the question under consideration.
“I guess its personal.” More stress in his voice.
“Then I refuse.” Cr’wean raised his eyebrows, and Shri continued on, all business tone. “I know what you’ve been up to, I don’t need to go on a date to realize this wouldn’t work.” Cr’wean turned red. The man’s emotions boiled very close to the surface. Shri had lived long enough at the Aerie to know that. Plus, he had been the reason why the kitchen carried too many spicy cookies. It was a small point, but sweets should be sweet. He collected himself then spoke.
“Fine. I don’t want to force anybody. Sorry to bug you.” He turned rather quickly. He hated this stuff, and repetition was not making it any better. He didn’t even check to see if the brats were following him, but he didn’t make it very far before he stopped.
“Cr’wean, you probably shouldn’t force yourself either.”
The man looked back up, a questioning scowl on his face. Shri didn’t pay any attention to it.
“You aren’t a real romantic guy, from what I can tell. If you aren’t feeling it, don’t do it.” Shri shrugged. “Just a word of advice. Take it or leave it.”
“Why do you say that?” Cr’wean was slightly curious. Shri was somewhat unreadable for him. If Cr’wean’s feelings bubbled very close to the surface, Shri kept feeling out of it, and kept herself all business.
“From my experience, you work best when you are directed at something you want to be doing. You might not be great bedside, but if something breaks, you are one of my first choices for that fix.”
Cr’wean remained silent for a moment before turning away from Shri. “Thanks. I’ll think about it.” He walked away, still red. Half embarrassed from having to ask, and half from the compliment. He didn’t do complements well. Trynol trailed the man, while Flourish finally broke off when Selt moodily sulked away from her advances. Shri just watched him go.
Well, with any luck that would mean slightly less stress for the man. Her work was better when the Lifewing riders were in better shape. And her mood was better when the cooks had more sweet cookies in the kitchen. She turned away, a slight smile on her face. Speaking of, best see if she couldn’t get something sweet before work. After all, she better remain true to her nature after giving advice like that.
