Rainbow Mists felt so much warmer than Kyuuki remembered it. When they appeared over it, it felt like stepping into a warm room, not the outdoors. But it all looked like she remembered it. It had been too long even still. As they descended slowly, Kyuuki let Vallesh show her how the land lay. The Aerie was now its own place, but they would visit there later. After all, the Weyr wasn’t just a place she was showing to Libby. It was also a place for her to catch up with. Well perhaps the shady places around the Bowl anyway. She remembered them fondly.
Soon enough they landed along with the dragon that helped them get there. Vallesh folded up her wings and started to peer around as Kyuuki got off and thanked the rider that helped them. They would return when they needed to get back, but there was business for the dragon rider to attend to. Kyuuki returned to Vallesh and Libby, somewhat ready for what was to come. She had planned this day out to show Libby around, so she wasn’t going to shirk.
“Do you know, um, what you want to see first?” If not, she had some ideas, but for now, she wanted to know what Libby was interested in.
Young eyes were glued to the green landscape before. She had seen so many trees, but not from the sky, and never this green. And it was warm. Faranth it was so warm. Libby stared the entire descent. She even took her sweet time putting together words for Kyuuki's question. How could such a place, so different, even exist?
"It's...hot." she commented, trying to peal off the heavy riding jacket. "Can we go see the forest? It's been so long since I've seen trees." Her eyes traced the broad, waving leaves. They looked so strange.
Kyuuki smiled, as Libby spoke. She was inclined to agree, but she remembered the days when it wasn’t too hot. Admittedly, she thought she would get used to it as it went on, though she would take the fresh air of ISW over the muggy RMW stuff. It seemed as though Libby did have an idea of where to go, and Kyuuki nodded in response. To the jungle then.
“Sounds good.” Kyuuki started that direction, walking in a pattern that came naturally to her. She still had long sleeves and pants, but she deliberately went to the shade first, then toward the jungle. Old habits. It wasn’t so much because it was hot, but rather the burning sun was always avoided by her. In a place so much more open like Rainbow Mists, that tendency was more evident. Vallesh followed the humans, grateful for white feathers that could reflect the heat. Her feet were not going to be as lucky, but once they hit grass it would not be so bad.
As they came close Kyuuki was quietly admiring the jungle. She didn’t remember much about it from her time here before. She wasn’t the sort to investigate the out of doors. She did look at it admiringly though.
“So green. I think I am, um, too used to white and gray.”
Libby was grateful for shade, and then to be off the hot stone of the Weyr Bowl. She had never been to a place so hot in her life. How did people live here?
"Yes. But it's different," Libby wondered, reaching out to take one of the broad leaves in her hand. Her eyes darted about. "No needles..." as there had been in the woody and cold forests of her earlier life. "How strange." Libby walked into edge of the trees, looking still all around her. "It's so dense!" she exclaimed, seeing how the leaves swallowed up all but the most regularly maintained paths. She had never seen such trees.
